As always, we began the week with our weekly staff meeting with the entire team. To go over
priorities and projects for the week. This began with debriefing from last week’s hearing as well
as updates for what is next up on the horizon. After the meeting, we began our normal daily
activities, as well as our weekly check-in with our internship coordinator. The other interns and I
were working hard on an oversight project that lasted until mid-day Tuesday. At that point, we
began work on another project that looked at identifying factors to increase capital for small
business owners (especially those in disadvantaged and veteran communities). This developed
our thought process on how to create future legislation that would not only impact our target but
also have economic and social benefits for taxpayers. As the week rolled on, we finished up our
Small Business of the Week. This initiative is targeted at putting the spotlight on small
businesses across the state of Iowa. This document is then checked, signed off by the senator,
and then submitted to the official congressional record. On Thursday, I went to a luncheon in the
house to learn about China’s influence in America and its future impact on the American
economy. This was a great space to meet fellow interns, receive a free lunch, and learn
something new to develop my range of policy understanding. To round out the week, I was
tasked with one more semi-long-term oversight project that will hopefully point to positives in
future legislation. Overall, this was a great week again. No complaints at all. With so many
projects coming our way, it keeps me busy, making the day go by quicker. Everyone is really
nice and helpful, and they are now helping me with networking opportunities to hopefully
