Journal week 9
This week was a little slow but had some moments where we had a lot going on. Most of
the week was going over a outlook of where we want to see the fatherhood program be in the
next five years that was a plan I had to talk about with Demetri and with Daria. They asked how
I could attribute to this program as well as what are some things the program needs to work on. I
talked about how with a program like this and it being a ministry run clinic sometimes retention
is the biggest struggle whether it be because clients are not being proactively sought after in the
discipleship/ follow up phase or that those working in this program lose the fire for what they are
doing. For whoever works in the fatherhood program there has to be a passion to want to be
involved and continue to aid fathers in this new stage of their lives.
I talked on how I can be of service in this role by going out to the community and
rekindling and creating more relationships with the Auburn and Opelika community as the
churches in both communities are the gateway for the rest of the community. I told both of them
that is one of the advantages the clinic has on top of other healthcare facilities and clinics as they
are ministry-based clinic and relationships with churches who come into contact with all the
families and college students at Auburn and Tuskegee University will get us a starting point.
Then is the topic of intentionality which is key into not just maintaining these relationships and
connections but also spreading the clinic’s influence. Hosting events and having a partner in look
for the clinic will help these other organizations feel like they are involved and are making a
difference.
