4.0 ROOF PLATE DESIGN (ignored-used calculation from sheet 'ROOF&LUG_3119')

MINIMUM ROOF THICKENSS
Minimum thickness as per API 650 2008 Clause 5.10.2.2 = 5.00 mm
Corrosion allowance, c.a. = 1.00 mm
Minimum thickness required = 6.00 mm
Therefore , use thickness of 6 mm is satisfactory.

SELF SUPPORTED CONE ROOF

(1) Minimum thickness shall be the greater of the followings (a) and (b) :-
(a) Minimum thickness as perAPI 650 2008 Clause 5.10.2.2 = 5.00 mm

= 6.00 mm
(b) Minimum thickness, ( clause 3.10.5.1 )

= 60.76 mm
T = 2500 Kpa

Minimum thickness required (max. of (a) & (b)) = 60.76 mm

Conclusion : Since the result as per API 650 - 5.10.2.2 is greather than the maximum thk , 13mm
hence, the result displayed at TANK® is 13 mm only withiout further indication of the
actual required thickness as shown by the Excel calculation above.

Section modulus at X axis, Zx-x ( = tr.tL² /3 + tL.tr.wL ) = 9170 mm³

7 .5.3 STRESS DUE TO FORCE Fy

Component force, Fy = 4120 N
Shear stress, Ssx ( = Fy / Aw ) = 1.75 N/mm²
Bending stress, Sbx ( = Fy.hL / Zz-z ) = 4.88 N/mm²

7 .5.4 STRESS DUE TO FORCE Fz

Transverse component force, Fz = 238 N
Shear stress, Ssz ( = Fz / Aw ) = 0.10 N/mm²
Bending stress, Sbz ( = Fz.hL / Zx-x ) = 2.59 N/mm²

7 .5.5 COMBINED STRESSES

Sm = (Sbx + Sbz)² + 3(Ssx + Ssz)² = 8.13 N/mm²

Allowable welding stress, Sa ( = E.Sa ) = 75.00 N/mm²

Since Sm < Sa, therefore the selected weld size is satisfactory .
