In this activity sheet, you will learn the common and proper nouns.
What is a noun?
-They are names of persons, animals, places, things, or events.
Common Nouns
-Some words begin with small letters. They name any person, place, thing, or event.
Examples are boy, book, school, store, girl, and church.
Proper Nouns
-Some words begin with big or capital letters. They name particular persons, places,
things, or events.
Activity 1: Read and write the nouns under the correct heading.
Activity 2: Encircle the Proper noun and underline the common noun in the sentence.
II. Recognize the use of a/an + noun in simple sentences listened to.
Study This:
-In this activity sheet, you will learn the use of a / an + noun in simple sentences listened to.
-A is used before a word which begins with a consonant sound (b,c,d,f,g
h,j,k,l,m,n ,p,q,r,s,t,v,w,x,y,z).
-An is used before a word which begins with a vowel sound (a,e,i,o,u).
-Be careful in using A and An. The sound of the letter is important too if the beginning
sound resembles a consonant, use A. Likewise, if it sounds vowel-like, use AN.
Example: hour – it is silent “h”, it starts with a vowel sound, so we say “an hour”.
unicorn --- it starts with a consonant sound, so we say “a unicorn”
