The teacher will divide the class into 5 groups. Then, the teacher will play a lyric
video of a song “Just the Way you are” by Bruno Mars and ask each group to
listen and write down the pronouns they will be encountering while listening to
the song.

 Presenting and Discussing New Concepts.


Pronoun stand for, refer to, or replace a noun or a noun phrase to avoid
repetition within the text; hence, they occupy the same position as a noun or
phrase does.

Examples:
1. Maria loves to bake cookies and cakes. She often spend hours perfecting the
textures and taste.
2. General Luna Volleyball team won the championship with incredible
teamwork. They celebrated their victory with joy.
3. The movie, “Rewind” had an unexpected ending. It caught many people by
surprise.
4. Archie and Roxie have been dating for almost a month. They have decided to
get married.
5. The cat climbed a tall tree. It seemed comfortable up there, watching the
birds.

 Practice and Exercise

Direction: Copy and read the excerpt below from the story “A Day
Country”. Encircle all the pronouns present in the excerpt.

The boy does not sleep. He gazes into the darkness, and it seems to him
that he is seeing all that he has seen in the day; the storm clouds, the bright
sunshine, the birds, the fish, lanky Terenty. The number of his impressions,
together with exhaustion and hunger, are too much for him; he is as hot as
though he were on fire, and tosses from side to side. He longs and agitating
his soul, but there is no one to tell. Fyokla is too little and could not
understand.

 Generalization

Personal Pronouns- usually replace nouns that represent a person or people.
Some examples are I, you, he, she, and it.

Examples:
 She sings so well.
 He loves to play a guitar.

Cases of Pronoun

1. Subjective or Nominative- which means they act as the subject of


independent and dependent clauses.
2. Possessive- which means they show possession of something else.
3. Objective- which means they function as the recipient of action or are the
object of a preposition.

 Motivation: PASS THE BALL

The teacher will divide the class into three (3) groups, and each group will form a
circle. Then, the teacher will give each group a ball that the students have to
pass it to the one sitting beside them. The teacher will play a music, and while
the music is playing, the students have to pass it to their groupmates. When the
music stops, the ball will stay where it belongs. The ball contains sentences, and
the students have to identify what pronoun is being used in the sentence.

 Presenting and Discussing New Concepts.

1. Possessive Pronouns- show ownership or possession which usually used


before a noun. Some examples are mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, and
theirs.

Example:
 This pen is mine.
 That notebook is yours.

2. Interrogative Pronouns- used in a question and ask about something.


Examples include what, which, who, whom, and compound words ending in
“ever”, such as whatever, whichever, whoever, and whomever.
Example:
 Who ate the last slice of pizza?
 What is your favorite food?

3. Demonstrative Pronouns- used to point out a noun and show distance or


contrast. Examples include that, these, this, and those
Example:
 That is a good idea.
 Which ones do you prefer, these or those?

4. Relative Pronouns- used to add more information to a sentence. Examples


include that, which, who, whom, and whose.
Examples:
 The guest who/that came to dinner is the governor.
 The book which/that I bought is a best seller.

5. Reciprocal Pronouns- used to show a mutual action or relationship. Example


includes each other and one another.

Examples:
 The two contestant congratulated each other for making it to the top.
 The Grade 10 students helping one another during the class.

6. Indefinite Pronouns- refers to an indefinite, or general person or things. Some


examples are all, any, both, each, everyone, few, many, neither, none,
nothing, several, some, and somebody.
Example:
 Something smells good.
 Many like eating grahams.

Reflexive Pronouns- used as the object of the verb. It tells us that whoever
performs the action in a sentence is also the one on the receiving end of that
action. In other words, the reflexive pronouns reflect back to the subject.

Intensive Pronouns- occurs directly after the word it modifies or at the end of the
clause. It simply add emphasis without changing the core meaning. It can be
removed from a sentence without affecting its meaning
Examples:
 The teacher herself teaches the students.
 The teacher teaches the students herself.
