DEMONSTRATION PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards:
The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West Asian literature as an
expression of philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in various text types;
reality, fantasy, and opinion in listening and viewing materials; word decoding
strategies; and use of information sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported
speech, perfect tenses, and logical connectors in journalistic writing.
B. Performance Standards:
The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of journalistic texts, the contents
of which may be used in composing and delivering a memorized oral speech featuring
use of properly acknowledged information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-
making, persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and
behavior.
C. Learning Competency:
EN8VC-Iva-20: Analyze the elements that make up reality and fantasy based on the
material viewed.
EN8LC-IVd-8.2: Judge the relevance and worth of ideas presented in the text listened
to.
D. Specific Objectives:
1. Distinguish certain practices, cultures and traditions of a certain place.
2. Use attentive listening strategies with informative texts.
3. Express appreciation for worthwhile Asian traditions and the values they represent.

The learners will arrange the pieces of puzzle mentally to form the target images.

B. Presenting examples/ instances of the lesson.


After forming the images, the teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What do these pictures represent?
2. What are the qualities of a prospective partner?
3. Should parents interfere with their children in the choice of their partners in
life?

C. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1.


The learners will listen attentively to the folk tale, The Vanity of the Rat.

The teacher will present a maze. The learners are asked to help Mr. and Mrs.
Rat find the right path towards the moles and rats. There are some stations
where questions must be answered to receive clues.

Question 1 (Sun): What is the story all about?


Question 2 (Cloud): How will you describe Mr. Rat as a father?
Question 3 (Wind): What characteristics of a prospective husband does Mr. Rat want
for his daughter?
Question 4 (Stone Buddha): Who were the prospective husbands for Mr. Rat’s
daughter?
Question 5: How will you describe the character of a. Mr. Sun? b. Mr. Cloud? c. Mr.
Wind? d. Mr. Stone Buddha?

E. Developing mastery (Leads to formative assessment #3).


F. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living.

Consider the statement: “Your parents know
the right man/woman for you to marry.” The
learners will exchange views in a form of an informal
debate.

The learners will answer the following questions:
1. What does the fable reveal about the marriage practice of a Korean family?
2. How is their practice similar or different from the Filipinos?
