Lesson Plan 9 Biology
Lesson Plan 9 Biology
Lesson Plan 9 Biology
GRADE 8
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of
1. the concept of a species, and
2. the species as being further classified into a hierarchical taxonomic system.
B. Performance Standards:
The learners shall be able to:
1. report (e.g., through a travelogue) on the activities that communities engage in to protect and conserve endangered and economically important
species
C. Learning Competencies:
The learners should be able to:
1. explain the concept of a species;
2. classify organisms using the hierarchical taxonomic system; and
3. classify organisms using the hierarchical taxonomic system.
D. Specific objectives
At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. describe the value of each organisms;
2. differentiate high from low biodiversity; and
3. appreciate the importance of biodiversity.
A. Elicit
1. Review I have here some words on the board about the topic last time. The students will participate in the class.
Match it with the corresponding charges.
bio variation of life found on earth bio variation of life found on earth
diversity life diversity life
biodiversity variety biodiversity variety
2. Word Drill I have posted some words inside the room, search it for a minute.
Stability Stability
Now altogether read the words. The students will read the words altogether.
B. Engage
So, what is the video all about? It’s all about the future ma’am
What can you say about the video? It is meaningful, to the extent that it made me realize how
important it is to protect every organism that I know.
2. Presentation Today, we will study the importance of biodiversity and the high
and low biodiversity.
C. Explore
Activity You will be performing an activity now; your groupings will still
be the same group as yesterday’s activity. Can I call the leader to
please come here in front to get your materials?
I need you to choose a reporter to report your answers after the
activity. I only need one answer per group.
Activity
Objectives:
After performing this activity, you should be able to:
1. differentiate low from high biodiversity,
2. give advantages of high over low
biodiversity,
3. identify ecosystems with low and high
biodiversity, and
4. predict what will happen to an ecosystem
with low biodiversity.
Materials Needed:
photos of different ecosystems
pencil/ballpen
Procedure:
Figure 27. A banana plantation.
Q70. Does it have a high or low biodiversity?
Q71. What will happen if a pest will attack banana plants?
Q72. What will happen if a strong typhoon comes and heavy
flooding occurs?
Q73. How will this affect the helpers and owner of the
plantation?
4. Examine the photo below.
1. Reporting May I request the assigned reporters of each group to please come Reporters of each group will go in front and present their
in front and present to the class your answers in our activity answers to the class.
today.
2. Discussion Based from your activity, high biodiversity is more advantageous Yes ma’am.
than low biodiversity.
Ecosystem Stability
The higher the biodiversity, the more stable the
ecosystem (stable= stays the same)
An ecosystem with high biodiversity does not
change easily; it is stable
An ecosystem with low biodiversity is unstable
One small change could cause many
species to die
E. Elaboration
1. How does low biodiversity differ from high biodiversity? 1. High biodiversity is stable than low biodiversity.
2. Many different organisms are found in an area, we 2. High Biodiversity
consider it as?
3. If biodiversity is low, what happen to the ecosystem? 3. It becomes unstable.
F. Evaluation Class, get ½ crosswise and answer the following on the board.
You are given 10 minutes to answer it.
I. True or False
1. The lower the biodiversity, the stable the 1. False
ecosystem is.
2. Low biodiversity has lesser number of 2. True
organisms found in an area.
3. Biodiversity has a big impact in our ecosystem. 3. True
4. The higher the biodiversity, the unstable the 4. False
ecosystem is.
5. High biodiversity has higher number of 5. True
organisms found in an area.
II. Identification
1. It has many different species of organisms. 1. High Biodiversity
2. It does not have many different species of 2. Low Biodiversity
organisms.
3. It does not change easily. 3. High Biodiversity
4. Low biodiversity can even cause an ______? 4. Extinction
5. It is unstable. 5. Low Bodiversity
Time’s up! Please pass your paper to the center aisle and pass it
forward.
G. Extend
Assignment: I have here on the board your assignment, please copy it on your
notebook and write your answers on a ½ crosswise. Pass it next
meeting.
1. What are the threats to our ecosystem? List some.
2. What are the ways to prevent the extinction of some
species?
3. How can we conserve biodiversity?
