SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN

School: Taguig National High School Grade Level: 8

Student Teacher: Maimona A. Totong Learning Area: Science (Biology)
Teaching Dates and Time: March 14, 2017 Quarter/Lesson: 4th

I.TARGET
At the end of the teaching-learning process, 100 % of the student with 75 % level
of proficiency must be able to:

1. Identify the different stages of mitosis

2. Illustrate the different stages of mitosis
3. Appreciate the importance of mitosis in living organisms.

II. LEARNING TASKS

A. TOPIC: Cellular Reproduction and Genetics
B. SUB-TOPIC: Stages of Mitosis
C. REFERENCE: Grade 8 Science Learner’s Material pp. 321 - 322
D. MATERIALS:
 LCD projector
 PowerPoint presentation
 Marker
 Pipe Cleaner
 Scissor
 Glue
 Pieces of paper
 Paper plate
E. CONCEPTS:
1. Mitosis - is a process of cell dividing intended of somatic cells that
produces two daughter cells.
2. Stages of mitosis are:
a. Prophase – in this stage the nuclear membrane and nucleolus begin
to breakdown.
b. Metaphase – the chromosomes are line up in the middle.
c. Anaphase – sister chromatids separate and migrate to the opposite
pole.
d. Telophase – this is the final stage of mitosis. The two nuclei form.
3. Mitosis is important because it is essential for growth and repair in the
body.
III. STRATEGIES
A. Daily Routine:
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Classroom management
 Checking of attendance
 Checking of assignment
B. Recall:
 Anybody, who will recall what we did yesterday?
 So what are the two phases of cell cycle?
 What are the two types of cell division?
C. Motivation:
 Showing a picture of an infant and a teenager
 Anyone, who will describe the differences between this two pictures?
 When an organism grows bigger do you get more cells or just bigger cell
or both?
D. Lesson Proper
1. Unlocking of difficult word
 The students will study the scramble letters and try to rearrange to each
clue give to form a word that is related to cell division.
1. Pteolesah – the two nuclei form.
Ans: TELOPHASE
2. Eshapaan – the paired chromosomes separate.
Ans: ANAPHASE
3. Atemaseph – the chromosomes line up in the middle.
Ans: METAPHASE
4. Pparoesh – the nuclear membrane and nucleolus begin to breakdown.
Ans: PROPHASE
5. Soismti – is a method of cell division in which a cell divides and
produces identical copies of itself.
Ans: MITOSIS
2. Pre-Activity
 Group the students
 Preparation of materials:
 Paper plate
 Marker
 Pieces of paper
 Glue
 Scissors
 Pipe cleaner
 Procedures:
1. Each group will illustrate the stages of mitosis using pipe cleaner,
pieces of paper, paper plate glue and scissor.
2. After illustrating choose one or two representatives to present your
work.
 Rules:
1. Each group will be given 10 minutes to finish the activity.
2. Observe proper behavior.
3. Don’t borrow any materials from other group.
4. Always use scissors with care.
3. Proper activity
 The students will illustrate the different stages of mitosis using the yarn,
pipe cleaner, paper plate, scissor, pieces of paper and glue.
4. Post activity
 Presentation of their output and discussion
5. Generalization
 To enhance what they learned in the activity, they will watch a video
regarding with the stages of mitosis.
6. Application
 What will happen if the cell division is uncontrolled?
E. Evaluation:
Directions: Choose the letter of the best answer.
1. What is the correct sequence of the stages of mitosis?
a. Prophase – metaphase – anaphase – telophase
b. Metaphase – anaphase – telophase – prophase
c. Anaphase – telophase – prophase – metaphase
d. Telophase – prophase – metaphase – anaphase

2. Which stage of mitosis is illustrated in the diagram below?

a. Prophase
b. Metaphase
c. Anaphase
d. Telophase
3. Which of the following happens during metaphase?
a. The chromosomes move towards the poles of the cell
b. The chromosome line up in the imaginary equator of the cell
c. The chromatids are separate and migrate to the opposite poles
d. The chromosomes are duplicated
4. Which of the following is true about Prophase?
a. The sister chromatids are separated and migrate to the opposite pole
b. The chromosome line up in the middle
c. The nuclear membrane and nucleolus begins to breakdown
d. Two nuclei from
5. Which of the following shows the importance of mitosis?
a. Mitosis is important because it is essential for growth and repair in
the body.
b. Mitosis is important because it regulates the blood sugar level.
c. Mitosis is important because it controls the gamete cells.
d. Mitosis is important because it provides energy to an individual.

IV. ASSIGNMENT:
