LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH 8

Grand Demo Plan


I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson the students will be able to;
a. Define unfamiliar words from the text by identifying the word’s meaning in the
given sentence.
b. List important statements show in the video “What I really really want”
(advocacy video)
c. Read and analyze Kamala Das’ “An introduction” by explaining the author’s
purpose
d. Discuss the author’s background and social issues related to the text.
e. Apply their knowledge of the text and the social issues on writing an advocacy
essay.
I. SUBJECT MATTER
Text: “An Introduction” by Kamala Das
Reference: Dwivedi, A. N. 2000. Kamala Das and Her Poetry; New Delhi, Doab;
House 1983;
second ed. Atlantic Publisher and Distributors. P. 303.
Materials: Powerpoint Presentation, Speakers, Chalkboard, Cartolina Pictures , tape
and rubrics.

B. Before the Lesson


 Vocabulary Development
Finding the meaning through Context Clues
The teacher will show a series of sentences containing the unfamiliar words. The
sentence will contain the meaning of the underlined unfamiliar word. The students
will take turns in answering the vocabulary activity. Once the students find the right
answer, the students shall use the word in a sentence.

1. A pyre was build beside the cemetery with a pile of wood.


2. The newscaster was sued for distorting the news he reported because it is a
crime to twist the truth.
3. I am glad that mother tongue is now taught in the classroom because I
confidently speak my native language.
4. The farmer did not expect that the plant would sprout so fast that it grew
enough fruits for the rest of the week.
5. He was crushed when she jilted him, he said he never felt so rejected.
C. During the lesson
 Video Presentation
The teacher will present an advocacy video in the class. The students will take note
of important statements shown in the video.
After watching the video, the teacher will ask the following questions;
a. How do you feel after watching the video?
b. What were they asking?
c. Can you share the important statements was shown in the video?
d. What can you say about those statements?

 Review on the Elements of Poetry


The students will review on the elements of a poem by answering a graphic
organizer . The teacher will facilitate the class recitation.

 Background of the Author:
Kamala Das
The teacher will post a picture of the author with supporting details on
the author’s works and influence confessional poetry . The teacher will
discuss it using slide show.

 Pre-Reading :
The teacher will hand out copies of the poem to the students. The teacher will ask
the students to put a number in each line of the poem. The students will prepare to
listen to the reading of the poem.
 During Reading:
The students will listen as the teacher reads the text with correct pronunciation and
expression.
After that, the students will read the poem observing proper pronunciation and
expression.
 Post- Reading
The teacher will analyze each line of the poem by answering the following
questions.
a. Who is the persona in the poem?
b. Who is the persona’s addressee?
c. What is the tone of the poem?
d. What is the message of the persona to the society?
e. Why do you think the persona wants everyone to know her?
f. In the last line of the poem the persona said, “aches which are not yours. I too
call myself I” What did the persona mean by that?
g. What is the overall message of the poem?
 Enrichment Activity
For their enrichment activity, The students will work in their pre-assigned groups
for English. The teacher will distribute articles of present social issues all over the
world related to the video presented earlier.

c. Poverty
d. Killings of indigenous people.

The teacher will instruct the class to create a slogan of their assigned news article.
The teacher will distribute cartolinas and markers for the activity. The students
will have 10 minutes to work together and create their slogan.
After creating the slogan, the students will present their creations in front of the
class.
D. After the Lesson
Homework
Teacher will ask the students to make an advocacy essay supporting the slogan they
created in class.
