Conceptual layout:
A layout of the structural members along with the frame details as shown in the drawing is presented. The conceptual
layout has been prepared based on the Technical specifications.
The plan of the building with Roof beam layout has been shown below:

CLIENT : PROJECT : 2x6.3MVA, 33/11KV SUBSTATION
The Long-frame:
The slab is projected allround the building by 300mm. All the slab elements are designed as two-way slabs for structural design.
Foundation level:
Minimum depth of foundation will be 1.50m below Natural ground level as per specification.
Design data :
Soil data :
Soil density - 20 kN/Cu.m
Safe bearing capacity of soil - 270 kN/sq.m
Depth of water table - Nil
CLIENT : PROJECT : 2x6.3MVA, 33/11KV SUBSTATION
Material grades :
Concrete - M25
Reinforcing steel - Fe 415 ( Cold twisted deformed bars)
Load combination:
DL + LL with partial safety factor of 1.5
Structural analysis :
3-Dimensional Frame analysis:
The whole structure is modelled in the FEM pachage for structural analysis and design ( STAAD.Pro) software.
The isometric view of the modelled struture is shown below:
CLIENT : PROJECT : 2x6.3MVA, 33/11KV SUBSTATION
Structural Design :
The structural design of various various RC components will be done as per Limit state method of design' as per IS:456-2000.
Foundation
The loading from the structural analysis are considered for design of foundations. All RC components of foundations are designed as
per Limit state method. All the foundations are grouped in to 2 types consdiering the practical ease at site.
Columns
Design of columns is carried out using Limit state method for axial load with bi-axial bending and using the grade of concrete -M25.
Beams
Beams of main frames are designed as rectangular sections with M25 grade of concrete for factored moment and shear. The sections
are also checked for serviceability using the deflection criteria as per IS:456-2000.
Roof slab
The roof slab is designed as a two-way slab using the design moment co-efficients as provided in the Annex-d of Is:456-2000.
Load calculations
Load case -1
Dead load on roof slab-
Self weight of slab - 1.0 x 1.0 x 0.15 x 25 = 3.75 kn/sq.m
Weathering course - 1.0 x 1.0 x 0.10 x 20 = 2.00 kn/sq.m
Finshes etc. - = 0.6 kN/sq.m
Total - = 6.35 kN/sq.m
The above load is applied on the roof slab and load is distributed to the intersecting beams as per the distribution as given in the
IS:456-200. The distribution is as shown in the figure below:
The Dead load of parapet and 300 mm extended slab load is applied as uniformly distributed load on the exterioir beam at roof level.
Load case -2
The Live load on slab - 1.5 kN/sq.m
