To the bull that slays the enemy, to Kåma, do I render tribute with ghee, oblation, and
(sacrificial) melted butter. Do thou, since thou hast been extolled, hurl down my enemies
by thy great might!
yan me manaso na priyaµ cakßußo yan me babhasti nåbhinandati
tad du†vapnyaµ prati mu∞cåmi sapatne kåmaµ stutvod ahaµ bhideyam 2
The evil dream which is offensive to my mind and eye, which harasses and does not please
me, that (dream) do I let loose upon my enemy. Having praised Kâma may I prevail!

Evil dreams, O Kåma, and misfortune, O Kåma, childlessness, ill health, and trouble, do
thou O ugra O Œ†åna∆ , let loose upon him that designs evil against us!

teßåµ nuttånµm adhamå tamåµsy agne våstüni nirdaha tvam 4
Drive them away, O Kåma, thrust them away, O Kåma; may they that are my enemies fall
into trouble! When they have been driven into the nethermost darkness, do thou, O Agni,
burn up their dwelling- places!

That milch-cow, O Kåma, whom the sages call Vâk Viråg (ruling, or resplendent speech), is
said to be thy daughter; by her drive away my enemies; breath, cattle, and life shall give
them a wide birth!
kåmasyendrasya varuñasya råj∞o vißñor balena savitu∆ savena
agner hotreña pramude sapatnåµ chambœva nåvam udakeßu dhœra∆ 6
With the strength of Kåma, Indra, king Varuña, and Vißñu, with the impelling force
(savena) of Savitar, with the priestly power of Agni, do I drive forth the enemies, as a skilled
steersman a boat”.

†ve devå mama nåthaµ bhavantu sarve devå havam å yantu ma imam 7
My sturdy guardian, ugra Kåma, shall procure for me full freedom from enmity! May the
gods collectively be my refuge, may all the gods respond to this, my invocation!”

Taking pleasure in this (sacrificial) melted butter, and ghee do ye, O gods, of whom Kåma
is the highest, be joyful in this place, procuring for me full freedom from enmity”.

O Indra and Agni, and Kåma, having formed an alliance, do ye hurl down my enemies;
when they have fallen into the nethermost darkness, do thou, O Agni, burn up after them
their dwelling places!
avadhœt kåmo mama ye sapatnå urüµ lokam akaran mahyam edhatum
mahyaµ namantåµ pradí†a† catasro mahyaµ ßa∂ urvœr gh®tam å vahantu 10
Kåma has slain those that are my enemies, a broad space has he furnished me to thrive in.
May the four directions of space bow down to me, and the six broad (regions) carry ghee to
me!”

They (the enemies) shall float down like a boat cut loose from its moorings! There is no
returning again for those who have been struck by our missiles”.

yavayåvåno devå yavayantv enam 13
Agni is a defence, Indra a defence, Soma a defence. May the gods, who by their defence
ward off (the enemy), ward him off!

With his men reduced, driven out, the hated (enemy) shall go, shunned by his own friends!
And down upon the earth do the lightnings alight; may that god ugra crush your enemies!

udyann ådityo draviñena tejaså nœcai∆ sapatnån nudatåµ me sahasvån 15
This mighty lightning supports both moveable (falliable) and immoveable (infalliable)
things, as well as all thunders. May the rising sun by his resources and his majesty hurl down
my enemies, lie the mighty one.

With that triple armoured powerful covering of thine, O Kåma, with the charm that has
been made into an Invulnerate armour spread (over thee), with that do thou drive away
those who are my enemies; may breath, cattle, and life give them a wide berth!

With the weapon with which the god drove forth the Asuras, with which Indra led the
Dasyus to the nethermost darkness, with that do thou, O Kâma, drive forth far away from
this world those who are my enemies!
yathå devå asurån pråṇudanta yathéndro dasyün adhamaµ tamo babådhe
tathå tvaµ kåma mama ye sapatnås tån asmål lokåt prañudasva düram 18
As the gods drove forth the Asuras, as Indra, forced the demons into the nethermost
darkness, thus do thou, O Kåma, drive forth far away from this world those who are my
enemies!

Kåma was born at first; him neither the gods, nor the Fathers, nor men have equalled. To
these art thou superior, and ever great; to thee, O Kåma, do I verily offer reverence”.

O Kåma, You are greater than all. You are higher than Heaven and wider than the Earth.
You are farther than the waters have swept and hotter than fire. To that Kåma, do I verily
offer reverence.

tatas tvam asi jyåyån vi†vahå mahåµs tasmai te kåma nama iti k®ñomi 21
Great as are the directions (of space) and the intermediate direction on either side, great
as are the regions and the vistas of the sky; to these art thou superior, To that Kåma, do I
verily offer reverence.
yåvatœr bh®ñgå jatva∆ kurüravo yåvatœr vaghå v®kßasarpyo babhüvu∆
tatas tvam asi jyåyån vi†vahå mahåµs tasmai te kåma nama iti k®ñomi 22
As many bees, bats, kurüru worms, as many vaghas and tree-serpents as there are; to these
art thou superior. To that Kåma, do I verily offer reverence!
jyåyån nimiṣato ‘si tíṣṭhato jyåyånt samudråd asi kåma manyo
tatas tvam asi jyåyån vi†vahå mahåµs tasmai te kåma nama iti k®ñomi 23
Superior art thou to all that winks (lives), superior to all that stands still (is not alive),
superior to the ocean art thou, O Kåma Manyu! To these art thou superior. To that Kåma,
do I verily offer reverence”.

tatas tvam asi jyåyån vi†vahå mahåµs tasmai te kåma nama iti k®ñomi 24
O Kåma, You are greater than all. You are faster than the wind, hotter than the Sun and
greater than the Moon. You are farther than the waters have swept and hotter than fire. O
Love, You are greater than all. Kåma, do I verily offer reverence”.
yås te †ivås tanva∆ kåma bhadrå yåbhi∆ satyaµ bhavati yad v®ñiße
tåbhiß ™vam asmåµ abhisaµvi†asvånyatra påpœr apa ve†ayå dhiya∆ 25
With those auspicious and gracious forms of thine, O Kåma, through which what thou wilst
becometh real with these do thou enter into us, and elsewhere send the evil thoughts!”
1 Kåma the Bull, slayer of foes, I worship with molten butter, sacrifice, oblation. Beneath
my feet cast down mine adversaries with thy great manly power, when I have praised thee.
2 That which is hateful to mine eye and spirit, that harasses and robs me of enjoyment, The
evil dream I loose upon my foemen. May I rend him when I have lauded Kåma.
3 Kåma, do thou, a mighty Lord and Ruler, let loose ill dream, misfortune, want of
children, Homelessness, Kåma! utter destitution, upon the sinner who designs my ruin.
4 Drive them away, drive them afar, O Kåma; indigence fall on those who are my foemen!
When they have been cast down to deepest darkness, consume their dwellings with thy fire,
O Agni.
5 She, Kåma! she is called the Cow, thy daughter, she who is named Våk and Viråj by sages.
By her drive thou my foemen to a distance. May cattle, vital breath, and life forsake them.
6 By Kåma's might, King Varuna's and Indra's, by Vishnu's strength, and Savitar's
instigation, I chase my foes with sacrifice to Agni, as a deft steersman drives his boat
through waters.
7 May Kåma, mighty one, my potent warder, give me full freedom from mine adversaries.
May all the Deities be my protection, all Gods come nigh to this mine invocation.
8 Accepting this oblation rich with fatness, be joyful here, ye Gods whose chief is Kåma,
Giving me freedom from mine adversaries.
9 Ye, Indra, Agni, Kåma! come together and cast mine adversaries down beneath me.
When they have sunk into the deepest darkness, O Agni, with thy fire consume their
dwellings.
10 Slay those who are mine enemies, O Kåma: headlong to depth of blinding darkness hurl
them.
Reft be they all of manly strength and vigour! Let them not have a single day's existence.
11 Kåma hath slain those who were mine opponents, and given me ample room to grow and
prosper. Let the four regions bow them down before me, and let the six expanses bring me
fatness.
12 Let them drift downward like a boat torn from the rope that held it fast. There is no
turning back for those whom our keen arrows have repelled.
13 Agni averts, Indra averts, and Soma: may the averting Gods avert this foeman.
14 To be avoided by his friends, detested, repelled, with few men round him, let him
wander.
Yea, on the earth descend the lightning-flashes: may the strong God destroy your
adversaries.
15 This potent lightning nourishes things shaken, and things un- shaken yet, and all the
thunders.
May the Sun, rising with his wealth and splendour, drive in victorious might my foemen
downward.
16 Thy firm and triply-barred protection, Kåma! thy spell, made weapon-proof extended
armour
With that drive thou my foemen to a distance. May cattle, vital breath, and life forsake
them.
17 Far from the world wherein we live, O Kåma, drive thou my foemen with that selfsame
weapon
Wherewith the Gods repelled the fiends, and Indra cast down the Dasyus into deepest
darkness.
18 As Gods repelled the Asuras, and Indra down to the lowest darkness drove the demons,
So, Kåma, from this world, to distant places, drive thou the men who are mine adversaries.
19 First before all sprang Kåma into being. Gods, Fathers, mortal men have never matched
him.
Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. Kåma, to thee, to thee I offer worship.
20 Wide as the space which heaven and earth encompass, far as the flow of waters, far as
Agni,
Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. Kåma, to thee, to thee I offer worship.
21 Vast as the quarters of the sky and regions that lie between them spread in all directions,
vast as celestial tracts and views of heaven, Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever.
Kåma, to thee,
to thee I offer worship.
22 Many as are the bees, and bats, and reptiles, and female serpents of the trees, and
beetles,
Stronger art thou than these, and great for ever. Kåma, to thee, to thee I offer worship.
23 Stronger art thou than aught that stands or twinkles, stronger art thou than ocean,
Kåma! Manyu.
Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. Kåma, to thee, to thee I offer worship.
24 Not even Våta is the peer of Kåma, not Agni, Chandramas the Moon, nor Sürya.
Stronger than these art thou, and great for ever. Kåma, to thee, to thee I offer worship.
25 Thy lovely and auspicious forms, O Kåma, whereby the thing thou wilt becometh real,
With these come thou and make thy home among us, and make malignant thoughts
inhabit elsewhere.
