first unit on Monday. The first unit in math will be on number sense. We will
be working on place value of whole numbers and decimals.
ReadingOur story next week is The Red Kayak. We will be working on
plot and theme as well as point of view. Wednesday night will be a reading
assignment on the skill and vocab for the week. Friday will be the first read-
ing test of the year.
Grammar Our grammar skill next week is identifying common and prop-
er nouns. We will be reviewing how to identify a noun in a sentence and then
classify it as either common or proper.
Writing Students have set up their writers notebooks and put their
first piece of work in it. Miss Smith (our student teacher) taught a mini-
lesson on biopoems and had students create a biopoem of themselves. We
will be revising/editing these and posting them on www.kidblog.org/brosman
next week.
Spelling- Our list focuses on words with a VCCV or VCV pattern. Stu-
dents take their pretest on Tuesday and can be finished for the week if
they score an A. Visit www.spellingcity.com/triton5 to access the lists,
games, and practice tests.
Social Studies We have been reviewing the continents and oceans of
the world as well as map skills. Next week we will focus on latitude and longi-
tude next week as well as landforms in the various regions of the United
States.
Science-This week we were introduced to our first unit in science. We
will be spending the next several weeks learning about how scientists work.
We will be learning the scientific process and applying their knowledge to
various experiments.
