To my faithful readers who requested my ‘rambling fic tags’. This is for you. I now tag Episode 12 as:
Soft Space Academy AU. Found family. Ben meets dragels. Neil has a crisis. The Station has a disturbing set of power failures and Dexter Baronsworth is a very kind soul. So is Renee. Ernesto is a good dad. Poor Yenka!
1 Daily Duties - Marcus
Markus, personal assistant extraordinaire for the Carlson family, signed for the bucket of physical correspondence and oversized gifts. He accepted it from the little delivery bot with a polite nod of thanks. It chirped happily and hovered up to the ceiling, disappearing into one of the return chutes. Normally, there wasn’t anything big enough to require secondary delivery, but he could see a corner of a large gift box and far more physical mail than usual.
He sighed at the pile of official messages and letters. Yesterday, he hadn't gotten to any of them and now, this would add another day's worth atop his already crowded schedule.
No wonder the bot had delivered everything to their doorstep.
Attending the dinner with Ernesto had helped him to have a better sense of how the rest of the week might progress, but it'd cut into a sizable chunk of his free time. With Ben joining them as well, the busyness had doubled.
Today was sure to be extra busy as it always was after Ernesto had recharged with a social business event. He would likely spend the day poring over important contracts and agreements, before arranging an entire afternoon of meetings.
Markus could already feel the exhaustion lurking around the corners, reminding him that while Ernesto would be happily recharged, he'd be running on the usual half-filled, half-empty energy reserves of his own making.
Retreating inside the penthouse foyer, Markus set the mail bucket down atop the narrow entryway table. He picked and sorted at the pile, effectively separating them out into the appropriate bins that he could tackle according to time sensitivity.
There was a note for a career option confirmation from one of Noir's Guidance Advisors, with a hand-lettered address to Ernesto, suggesting it was an item that required parental approval for Ben.
Curious.
They'd never sent an actual notice before. Usually, it was a meeting request from the headmaster a few more weeks into the school year. Elite students had their career tracks aligned and realigned a thousand times before any real classes ever took place.
Markus cast a few stripping charms over the folded note, checking for harmful jinxes and hexes. Nothing turned up from the initial charmwork, so he tucked it in the pile to carry back to his office.
He should probably hand that over to Ernesto once he was sure it was absolutely harmless. But the mail held a few other mysterious packages and letters. One that seemed to be from that former employee with the stealing issue—Jamal? Or maybe it was someone else.
Markus frowned as he turned it over, holding it up to the light.
There was nothing to see from the outside, but he wasn't surprised to find a jinx on it. Most things addressed to Ernesto usually came with something attached
