About this ebook
Mira's careless wish is to survive the next tour of The Bubblegum Babes.
Her true wish is buried deep under old memories and deep wounds. Her heart craves home, the water, and her Merrow roots--if only she dared to return and maybe with her handsome hunk of a bodyguard along for the ride. If only there wasn't someone threatening her bandmate on top of that stupid beach house.
How is she supposed to ignore the water when it's so close?

A Little Bit of a Problem - Mira
The stale scent of saltwater filtered through the warded windows of the guarded beach house. Mira nibbled on one pointed sea-blue thumbnail, curling up in the dry, scratchy cushions of the palm-tree-printed sofa near the bay windows. She listened with half an ear as the rest of their group The Bubblegum Babes, argued about the thing that had given her headache for the past month.
She gave up on gnawing her fingernail down to the quicks and leveled a glare at her fellow bandmates. Would you two stop already?
she couldn't keep the angry rasp from her voice. You already know what half of this is for-
You're one to talk!
Angel snapped, her fluffy pastel blue hair floated around her neck, contrasting perfectly with her rich, dark skin. She was dressed in a knock-off version of her stage-costume, showing off subtle curves and printed images of the jewelry she normally wore.
And if you two start sniping now, I'm gonna scream,
Zulee said, twisting her cotton-candy-purple curls into a fat, messy bun on top of her head. I'm just saying, it's no big deal, alright? I know where this is going and it's nothing to get all worked up about-
Zu, sweetie, I love you, I adore you and I think right now you're being really stupid,
Mira said, flatly. It's a death threat! You're supposed to report those! You know, like taking it seriously? Suppose something happens because of-
Zulee rolled her eyes, before flopping down on the opposite end of the palm-tree-print sofa. And then what? Get babied by everyone for the next two weeks while we're on tour? Cancel all of the fan events we've had scheduled since last year? Disappoint all the people who are looking forward to our performances and probably spent their last-
It won't do you any good if you're dead,
Angel said, darkly. She dropped onto the sofa between them, arms crossed over her chest. If you're going to be whiny little-
"Guys, guys, Mira said, sharply.
Don't. Please. I don't think my head could take it right now if you start up again."
Both girls stop at that, staring at her before Angel reacts first, her bright blue eyes narrowing faintly. What did you do?
N-nothing! I didn't do anything, why do you always think that I've done something-
She's planning a birthday party for a certain grumpy bodyguard,
Zulee sang. She squealed, leaping off of the sofa and dodging to the other side of the room when Mina threw a bolt of bright blue energy after her. Ow—hey! Watch the hair!
What? Are you serious?
Angel jerked around to glower at her. Seriously?
Hey, I just—I asked and he said he'd never had a birthday party before and I just—I couldn't help it. How could I not want to help him?
Mira winced at the scowl Angel sent her way. Hey, just because you don't like your bodyguard, doesn't mean that I have to hate mine-
You only like him, because he's so easy on the eyes, if he asked you to bend over backward and-
Angel,
Zulee said, sharply. The playfulness vanished from her voice. I get that you're upset, but don't take it out on Mira, alright? She's allowed to do nice things for whoever she wishes to and that's her business.
Her and her creeptastic bodyguard,
Angel muttered. She shuffled away on the sofa to sit in the spot that Zulee had vacated.
I'm just saying that bodyguards are here for a reason,
Mira said, quietly. She twisted her hands together, watching the way the dry, paper-like skin stretched across half-skeletal fingers. If we don't tell them when something is up, they can't protect us.
Angel scoffed. You're the worst hypocrite out of all of us,
she growled. I don't wanna hear your bleeding heart about any of this. I'm ordering out. You want anything?
But her question was directed to Zulee as she levered herself off the sofa and back to the kitchen where the argument had started.
Zulee sighed, scratching her head. You know, you don't have to get angry all the time. Just because you're-
I'm not angry,
Angel said, tightly. I'm just annoyed. I'm supposed to report my stalkers and rabid fans and the two of you-
I don't have stalkers or rabid fans,
Mira interjected. She flashed an apologetic smile at Zulee. Sorry, Zu, but you guys know I don't. I'm kind of just there in the background so we can have ourselves a trio instead of a duo. You know that.
Zulee sighed. Loudly. "Keep talking about yourself like that and I might make you write another essay on your strengths and self-worth
