Terrorist network analysis

English newspaper writing dates from the 17th century. The first newspapers carried only news, without comments, as commenting was considered to be against the principles of journalism. By the 19th century, newspaper language was recognized as a particular variety of style, characterized by a specific communicative purpose and its own system of language means. It includes a system of interrelated lexical, phraseological and grammatical means serving the purpose of informing, instructing and, in addition, of entertaining the reader. As a result of this diversity of purposes, newspapers contain not only strictly informational, but also evaluative material -comments and views of the news-writers, especially characteristic of editorials and feature articles.

This paper categories and compares various works done in the field of social networking for covert networks. It uses criminal network analysis to categorize various approaches in social engineering like dynamic network analysis, destabilizing covert networks, counter terrorism, key player, subgroup detection and homeland security. The terrorist network has been taken for study because of its network of individuals who spread from continents to continents and have an effective influence of their ideology throughout the globe. It also presents various metrics based on which the centrality of nodes in the graphs could be identified and it's illustrated based on a synthetic dataset for 9/11 attack. This paper will also discuss various open problems in this area.

While leadership scholars increasingly acknowledge the influence of followers in the leadership process, less attention has been paid to their role in the destructive leadership process. Specifically, the current debate lacks a broad-based understanding of different susceptible follower types that synthesizes related research across academic domains. Expanding on Padilla, Hogan, and Kaiser's (2007) toxic triangle model of destructive leadership, we integrate research and theory across various academic literatures to derive a cohesive taxonomy of vulnerable followers that we call the susceptible circle. We describe the core characteristics of each follower type, drawing on Barbuto's (2000) theory of follower compliance to highlight the psychological processes that motivate each follower to comply with destructive leaders. We then conclude by discussing theoretical and practical implications, as well as avenues for future research.

This study analyzes the political reasons that allowed the Islamic State to expand successfully in Syria and Iraq, by enabling to ‘franchise’ worldwide, and the role of the regional governments in this issue. The paper highlights the attempt by Turkey to establish itself as a regional power and guidance of the Islamic world, by resurrecting the Caliphate, and, based on this, explains the contrast with the Islamic State, which goal is the foundation of a globalized Caliphate. The plans of the Turkish President Erdoğan for a Great Turkey, allied with Egypt, have foundered with the coup that ousted the Muslim Brotherhood from power. The study relates the connection of Ankara with the Kurds, regarding the management of the crisis in Syria and Iraq, and the Turkish liaison with regional powers (Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Israel) and other powers (Russia, Cina and USA).

In questo libro autobiografico commentato da Marco Marsili, Ilič Ramírez Sánchez ricostruisce le tappe della carriera che ne ha fatto il terrorista più famoso e ricercato nel mondo, dai primi attentati degli anni ‘70, all’amicizia con Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein e Mùammar Gheddafi, fino all’arresto avvenuto in Sudan nel ’94. Carlos svela la verità sugli attentati dell’11 settembre, e spiega, con una lucida analisi, la strategia statunitense della “guerra preventiva”, motivata dalla necessità di mantenere il controllo sul prezzo del petrolio, scambiato sui mercati internazionali in dollari. Una feroce critica ai media occidentali, al capitalismo, al consumismo, all’Onu, e alla sinistra occidentale, accusata di essersi adagiata “sugli allori della borghesia convertendosi al liberalismo californiano”.

Uno de los aportes que nos ha regalado la red de redes es el Manual de Contra-Contrainsurgencia publicado por Prickly Press en la Universidad de Chicago con un potente prólogo de Marshall Sahlins, inesperado para quien esto escribe: un progreso mayúsculo desde el conservadurismo que había desplegado Sahlins en "Edad de Piedra, Edad de la Abundancia" o en "Islas de Historia", que alguna vez traduje y deploré.

En estos momentos en los que se están cuestionando las técnicas que los antropólogos y otros científicos sociales han regalado a los poderes constituidos y a las corporaciones y en los que algunas de esas técnicas (como el reconocimiento de rostros) han revelado su poder letal y están siendo eliminadas de tecnologías que hasta hace poco se pensaban amigables,  no estánbdadas las circunstancias para equivocarnos otra vez. De más está decir que la temática de esta conferencia ha demostrado ser de altísimo impacto y en algunos enclaves también de muy alto riesgo. En no pocos países (que no pienso mencionar) estas problemáticas desbordan lo que la antropología política se atrevió a soñar en sus peores pesadillas. Recomiendo por ello que los conceptos más críticos se manejen con la debida discreción. Antes de fin de este año de 2021 habrá un artículo sobre el tema  y acaso un libro publicado aquí mismo sobre esta problemática, así como una dramática actualización de estos contenidos en la conferencia de RENECA en la Universidad Autónoma de Tlaxcala a sostenerse el 3 de diciembre.

Undergraduate dissertation on the emergence of 'new' terrorism displayed through the ideologies and methodologies of Daesh (ISIS) during the prominence of their caliphate in Iraq and Syria, 2014-2018. A qualitative approach to the topic of 'post-modern' terrorism and the philosophical debates that surround the discourse. A five-point framework of structure, aim, method, use of the internet, and use of children and elderly combatants, is used to assess Daesh's potential status as a 'new' or 'post-modern' terrorist organisation.

The so-called " Boko Haram " terrorist group undoubtedly stands out as the most notorious offspring of the Islamic revivalism movement in Nigeria. Nonetheless, it seems to have lost whatever was linking the group to the unspecified form of Salafism which its founder – the late Muhammad Yusuf – claimed as a basis for his action. Nowadays, the organization worldwide known through its Hausa sarcastic nickname – roughly translated as " state education is a sin " – no longer appears the religious-political creature conceived at its very first stage. The religious appeal that was able to legitimate its outbreak more than five years ago, and to gather a certain degree of public acknowledgment, has yielded to more materialistic attitudes. The somehow risky definition of " franchise " , instead, applies very well to describe the evolving nature of Boko Haram's structure. The group's economic ramification into the realm of the rewarding kidnappings-business (as well as other criminality-related activities) has allowed a rapid integration in informal economic processes of the greater Lake Chad region, leading to the diffusion of several interrelated cells. The success of the insurgency collectively operated under the " Boko Haram " designation against, mainly, Nigeria and Cameroon, has eventually worked to unite regional and Western actors to inaugurate a new War on Terror front in Central Africa. The pledge of allegiance to Iraq and Syria's Islamic State (IS) has further strengthened Boko Haram's position inside the terrorist archipelago as a global threat and procured the justification for another militarization of one of the most sensitive areas in the world. But by what measure are military anti-terrorists operations contributing to re-establish a safe-space and promote good governance and civil as well human rights?
