Teologia dogmatica

It is usually thought that only one being can be all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving. Challenging this monotheist conviction, I propose a universe ruled by two deities: ‘day shift God’ oversees the events that occur while the sun is up, whereas ‘night shift God’ oversees the events that occur while the sun is down. I survey objections to this proposal and conclude that the real obstacle is not an argument, but an aesthetic preference.

The article provides a biographical and theological portrait of the Romanian Orthodox theologian Dumitru Stăniloae (1903-1993). A particular attention is given to the doctrine of creation and its place within his theological project. Stăniloae’s specific contribution is traced while examining a notion of a divine gift that precedes everything else, his Trinitarian base for the image of God, communication between the visible and invisible worlds, as well as his concept of responsive divine Providence.

El Concilio Vaticano II en la Constitución Lumen gentium muestra el misterio de la Iglesia en relación con la Santísima Trinidad. En la perspectiva como el fruto del amor, que une al Padre con el Hijo en el seno de la Trinidad: justamente con la fuerza de este amor el Padre quiso unir a toda la creación en su Hijo. Mysterium Ecclesiae surge por lo tanto de Mysterium Trinitatis. Además en el Decreto sobre la actividad misionera de la Iglesia se defi ne que: "La Iglesia es misionera por su naturaleza, puesto que toma su origen de la misión del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, según el designio de Dios Padre" (AG 2). Con esta afi rma-ción el Concilio ha defi nido en su esencia la dimensión misionera de la Iglesia, y ha reafi rmado que la predicación del Evangelio a todos los hombres es la principal tarea de la Iglesia-la salvación. En el Decreto sobre la actividad misionera de la Iglesia Concilio Vaticano II había defi nido que: "La Iglesia peregrinante es misionera por su naturaleza, puesto que toma su origen de la misión del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, según el designio de Dios Padre" 1. Con esta afi rmación el Concilio ha defi nido en su esencia la dimensión misionera de la Iglesia, y ha reafi rmado que la predicación del Evangelio a todos los hombres es la principal tarea de la Iglesia. La evangelización, unida a la historia de la salvación, es gracia y vocación del Cuerpo Místico de Cristo. Por tanto, tiene sentido la afi rmación de la Evangelii nuntiandi, de que la Iglesia es para la evangelización.

L’articolo intende studiare la teologia dei due nomi dello Spirito Santo, Dono e Amore, partendo dalle Sentenze di Pietro Lombardo per giungere alla proposta bonaventuriana. Il Lombardo si rivela fedele discepolo di Agostino, da cui si scosta proponendo di riconoscere, in ogni amore creato, la presenza effettiva della terza persona della Trinità. Bonaventura, alla luce di una teologia più complessa e organica, nel pieno rispetto dell’assioma sull’indivisibilità dell’azione ad extra di Dio, valorizza invece la causalità esemplare, indicandola, per alcuni aspetti, come propria della persona dello Spirito. L’esito, tuttavia, appare non componibile con altri tratti del suo pensiero teologico, dove è il Verbo la causa esemplare di tutta la creazione.

This article aims at studying the theology of the Holy Spirit considering the two personal names of Gift and Love, taking as a starting point the Sentences of Peter Lombard to subsequently arrive at the proposal of Bonaventure. Lombard reveals himself as a faithful disciple of Augustine, from whom however he takes his distance, proposing the recognition in every created love of the effective presence of the Trinity. Bonaventure on the other hand, in the light of a more complex and organic theology and in full respect of the axiom on the indivisible action of God ad extra, gives importance to the exemplary causality, indicating it, in some aspects, as belonging to the same person of the Spirit. These conclusions however do not appear in line with other traits of his theological thought, wherein the exemplary cause of the whole of creation is the Word.

The chapter offers a comparison of an Orthodox and a Roman Catholic approach to the foundations of sacramental theology. With each theologian the author analyses an underlying epistemology, a type of relational and symbolic understanding of God, and then asks how these influence preference either for the church or for the world as a starting point for sacramental theology. In her conclusion she suggests how both approaches could complement each other.
