The purpose of this work has as objective analyze a Spanish traduction of: Sinners in the  Hand of an Angry God. One of the most known sermons of Jonathan Edwards. In Marsden words, a sermon that went beyond anything Edwards had ever preached.

In this article the language person of the Ukrainian preacher of second half of XVII-th century is investigated. The object of this research are the texts of the sermons of Ioannikij Galjatovsky, Antonij Radivilovsky and Lazar Baranovych. The basic object of this research is studied at level of language, world picture and also pragmatical problems and the purposes which are put before itself by the preacher. As a result we have come to a conclusion that the person of the Ukrainian preacher was formed, on the one hand, by church, and with another, – by school. Knowledge of the preacher is caused at a level of content by church canons, and at a level of form – rhetorical rules. In the texts of the Ukrainian preachers the concentric picture of the world issued by means of logic categories and art parallels is fixed. But thus it is clearly visible, the preacher whence speaks. Working languages of preachers were both Church Slavonic, and old Ukrainian languages at that time.

The article is devoted researching the features of identity of the Ukrainian authors of the XVII-th century from the preaching discourse of Kyiv Metropolis. The analysis deals with the texts of Anthoniy Radyvylovs’kyy, Lazar Baranovych and Dymytriy Tuptalo. The texts devoted the memorial days of Ukrainian saints (Volodymyr, Borys and Hlib, etc.) indicate the location of the preacher. The mentions on cults in the texts point out at preacher’s coordinates in a particular area (relics of St. Barbara in Michael monastery). The feature of preaching discourse is also developing the motive Immaculate Conception of the Virgin and the doctrine of the justification of man before God not only faith, but also deeds.

La fondazione del Collegio e della Casa Professa costituisce la prova forse più evidente, ma non l’unica, del riuscito insediamento della Compagnia di Gesù a Genova.
L’apertura del Noviziato, della Casa per Esercizi e di altre residenze dimostra, infatti, una presenza piuttosto capillare dell’ordine in città.
Questo articolo intende riepilogare le vicende delle principali ՙsedi minori՚ ricordando sia le vicissitudini che le hanno viste protagoniste dopo la soppressione dei Gesuiti sia gli eventuali mutamenti di utilizzo.
Il riferimento alle autorevoli ricerche di studiosi quali Emmina De Negri e Richard Bösel ha permesso inoltre di evidenziare lo stretto legame che unisce Collegio, Casa Professa e le ՙsedi minori՚.
Ove possibile è stato infine effettuato un sopralluogo che ha permesso di verificare l’eventuale presenza di opere ricollegabili alla presenza dei padri gesuiti.
Elementi decorativi riconducibili ad altri proprietari sono stati volutamente tralasciati al fine di focalizzare l’attenzione solamente su ciò che effettivamente a Genova è ricollegabile all’attività della Compagnia di Gesù.

The establishment of the Collegio and Casa Professa is the most evident proof, even if it isn’t the only one, of the presence of the Society of Jesus in Genoa.
The establishment of Novitiate, of home for spiritual exercises and the residential houses, are showing indeed a deep presence of the order in the city. The objective of this article is to summarazie the main events related to the minor headquarters pointing out both what happened after the closure or the Jesuit order and how the usage of those minor headquarters changed.
Some relevant studies (Emmina De Negri e Richard Bösel) have given the possibility to underline the close connection between Collegio, Casa Professa and minor headquarters.
Thanks to some surveys it has been possible verify the presence of masterpieces connected to the Jesuits.
Other decorative elements, that could be connected to other owners, by choice haven’t been considered. The reason of this approach is that the final goal was to be focus only on what, in Genoa, could be connect to the Society of Jesus.

Il primo contatto di Genova con la Compagnia di Gesù risale al 1552 ma solo nel 1623 l’ordine di Sant’Ignazio riuscì ad individuare in via Balbi la sede definitiva per il Collegio.
Questo lungo lasso di tempo trova spiegazione in un difficoltoso processo di insediamento che vide i Gesuiti scontrarsi non solo con gli altri ordini religiosi, ma anche con il clero e con il governo della Repubblica: oggetto di critiche furono non solo i metodi dell’ordine, ma anche la dottrina in materia di usura, la diretta dipendenza dal Papato e gli intensi legami con la nobiltà spagnola.

Il presente articolo si propone di analizzare l’opera di Andrea Pozzo ubicata nella chiesa di Santo Stefano a Sanremo e raffigurante l’ingresso di Francesco Borgia nella Compagnia di Gesù alla presenza di Ignazio di Loyola.
Lo studio, pur partendo dalla controversa datazione, si sviluppa intorno all’interpretazione del soggetto prescelto dal Pozzo per questa tela che, in questi termini, non risulta sia stato replicato sovente dall’artista.
L’analisi delle fonti letterarie ha, infatti, permesso di individuare una nuova lettura dell’opera che si discosta dall’interpretazione tradizionale.
Il riferimento conclusivo alle altre tele realizzate dal Pozzo per la Liguria consente infine di contestualizzare l’opera sanremese all’interno della produzione giovanile dell’artista evidenziandone l’aspetto sperimentale.


This article intends to analyse the work of Andrea Pozzo kept in the church of Santo Stefano in Sanremo; it shows the entrance of Francesco Borgia into the Compagnia di Gesù in the presence of Ignazio di Loyola. This study, of uncertain dating, develops in the different interpretations chosen by Pozzo for this work and does not seem to have been repeated many times by the artist. The analysis of literary sources allowed us to understand the work in a different manner to that of the traditional interpretation. The emerging reference to other paintings done by Pozzo for the Ligurian Region finally allows us to understand the painting in Sanremo as part of the young production of the painter, as the experimental  aspect evidences.

A presente comunicação tem o intuito de analisar o papel da pregação na construção da santidade no âmbito da Ordem dos Frades Menores entre os anos de 1209 a 1232, a partir da análise comparativa de dois textos hagiográficos produzidos dentro da mesma instituição que relatam as vidas de Francisco de Assis e Antônio de Lisboa/Pádua, os primeiros santos vinculados a movimento em questão, canonizados pela Igreja Romana durante o pontificado do papa Gregório IX. As hagiografias são a Vita Prima de S. Francisci, também denominada de Vida I, escrita pelo frade menor Tomás de Celano e a Beati Antonii Vita Prima, também conhecida como Legenda Assídua, cuja autoria é anônima. Analisando a santidade no âmbito do catolicismo medieval, procuramos discutir este elemento no campo das ciências sociais. O sociólogo Pierre Delooz, 446 em seus estudos sobre a santidade católica, entende em um primeiro momento o conceito de "santo" como um personagem do qual a Igreja Romana, como instituição, atribui culto oficial, a partir de um processo jurídico, isto é, da canonização, ou pela importância dentro da tradição ou espiritualidade cristã. Entretanto, o autor elucida que é necessário observar que, dentro do catolicismo, a santidade não se restringe apenas a homens e mulheres  Mestrando do Programa de Pós-graduação em História Comparada da Universidade Federal do Rio Janeiro e integrante do PEM (Programa de Estudos Medievais). Há teóricos no campo da História que pesquisam sobre o fenômeno da santidade medieval e formularam definições para este conceito. Temos como exemplos André Vauchez e Sophia Boesch Gajano. Contudo, consideramos suas reflexões permeadas pela apologia e teologia cristãs. Já a definição de Delooz, ao entender a santidade como um conjunto de representações coletivas, no nosso ver, distancia-se da concepção religiosa e define o conceito a partir de bases sociológicas. Neste sentido, segundo Delooz, a santidade, mais do que um título concedido a outrem após a morte, pode ser considerada também como um valor sagrado atribuído a algo. Para o sociólogo, este conceito é compreendido como um fenômeno presente no nível das representações mentais coletivas, a partir das crenças religiosas. Este conceito, portanto, expressa sistemas de conduta associados a uma rede determinada de relacionamentos socioculturais, entendendo esta rede, de forma mais específica em nosso estudo, como a ordem franciscana inserida na Igreja Romana. A própria Igreja Romana, mais que uma instituição, também pode ser entendida como um grupo social dominante, que estabelece sistemas e modelos de conduta. Logo, a mesma constrói parâmetros ou mesmo símbolos que classificam coisas ou fiéis como santos, separando-os da esfera humana e temporal, atribuindo-lhes um caráter sagrado. 447 Dentro do contexto do cristianismo medieval, a Ordem dos Frades Menores surgiu a partir do projeto inicial de Francisco de Bernardone, um jovem nascido por volta do ano de 1182, no seio de uma família de mercadores da cidade de Assis, localizada na região da Úmbria na Itália Central. Após uma suposta revelação divina, ele renunciou aos bens paternos e passou a ter uma vida simples, optando pela extrema pobreza, além de cultivar um intenso espírito de oração. Sua forma de vida atraiu outros jovens das redondezas, que desejavam viver de maneira semelhante. O grupo que surgiu em torno de Francisco almejava uma prática radical dos ensinamentos de Cristo. Vivendo de forma austera, a fraternidade era formada majoritariamente por leigos. Segundo as fontes, no ano de 1209, o pequeno grupo de penitentes partiu para Roma, onde solicitaram do então papa Inocêncio III a aprovação de sua forma de vida, para que assim pudessem obter o aval da Igreja Romana em relação ao seu projeto de vida religiosa. 448 Neste primeiro momento, o pontífice, segundo as mesmas fontes, como a própria Vida I, concedeu aos religiosos uma aprovação de caráter provisório, garantindo aos mesmos que, 447 Idem., p. 20-22. 448 Cf. Öz Türkiye folklor çalışmaları literatüründe "dinî" bağlamda birtakım çalışmalar yapılsa da bu çalışmaların hangi folklor çalışma kadrosu içinde değerlendirilmesi gerektiği üzerine herhangi bir tartışma görülmemektedir. Bunun başlıca sebeplerinden biri şüphesiz semavî din-folklor ilişkisi bağlamında yapılan çalışmaların az olmasıdır. Bu açıdan bakıldığında semavî din-folklor ilişkisinin ve bir çalışma kadrosunun belirlenmesinin zaruri olduğuna dikkat çekilmelidir. Folklorun çalışma kadrosu olarak dinî folklorun inceleme alanlarından biri de vaazlardır. Vaazların toplumlar üzerindeki dinî ve siyasî etkisi üzerine herhangi bir yorum yapmamakla birlikte halkbilimsel açıdan pek çok işlevi yerine getirdiği söylenebilir. Vaazların birleştirici, ekonomik, tanıtıcı, milli değerlere, toplumsal kurallara ve törelere destek verme, psikolojik rahatlatma ve siyasî işlevlerinin yanı sıra kültürel belleği aktarma ve halkı kültürlendirme (eğitme-öğretme) işlevleri de bulunmaktadır. Vaizler, nesilden nesle aktarılarak gelen ve kültürel bellekte yer alan pek çok folklorik unsuru vaazlarında kullanmaktadırlar. Bu bağlamda, vaizler vaaz metinleri içinde fikirlerini güçlendirmek adına sözlü kültür ürünlerine yer vererek gizli bir işlevi de yerine getirmiş olmaktadırlar. Bu çalışmada, "dinî folklor" çalışma kadrosu ve "vaaz" merkezli çalışmalar üzerinde kısaca durulacak ve kültürel bellek aktarımı bağlamında Türkiye'de icra edilen vaazlarda hangi sözlü kültür unsurlarının kullanıldığına dikkat çekilecektir. La vita del Collegio dei Gesuiti di Novi Ligure fu breve ma comunque significativa per la cittadina del Basso Piemonte.
Aperto tra il 1755 e il 1758, e dipendente direttamente dalla sede genovese della Compagnia, esso venne infatti chiuso nel 1773 quando l’ordine fondato da Sant’Ignazio di Loyola venne soppresso per volontà papale.
Nonostante il lasso di tempo ridotto i Gesuiti operanti a Novi Ligure ebbero comunque modo di attivare vari corsi coinvolgendo un numero sempre crescente di studenti e cittadini come dimostra anche la decisione di rinnovare, pochi anni dopo l’inaugurazione, l’edificio che ospitava il Collegio mutando probabilmente anche l’assetto dell’annessa chiesa.
Questo articolo mira a ricostruire la breve storia di questo insediamento piemontese della Compagnia di Gesù individuando, ove possibile in considerazione dei successivi mutamenti di utilizzo dell’edificio, le tracce ancora oggi visibili della presenza dei padri con una particolare attenzione alla tela di Andrea Pozzo raffigurante la predica di San Francesco Saverio.

V prispevku so predstavljene pred nekaj leti odkrite prekmurske rokopisne pridige, ki so bile najdene v Martjancih pri sorodnici pokojnega župnika Andreja Berdena. Gre za katoliške pridige, pisane za nedelje in praznike. Vseh skupaj je več kot petsto; pisali so jih različni avtorji. Nastajale so na prelomu iz 19. v 20. stoletje, okvirno do 30. let 20. stoletja, po različnih prekmurskih župnijah - največ jih je iz črenšovske in martjanske. Pridige dopolnjujejo zgodbo o razvoju prekmurskega jezika v Katoliški cerkvi, njihova najdba pa potrjuje, da si cerkvena književnost v Prekmurju zasluži nadaljnje raziskovanje.

The article presents the handwritten sermons of Prekmurje, which were found a few years ago in the Parish of Martjanci at the relative of the deceased parish priest Andrej Berden. These are Catholic sermons written for Sundays and religious holidays. There are more than five hundred in all; they were written by different authors from the turn of the 20th century to approximately the 1930s in various parishes of Prekmurje - most of them from the Parish of Črenšovci and Parish of Martjanci. The sermons complement the story of the development of the Prekmurje language in the Catholic Church, and their finding confirms that the church literature in Prekmurje deserves further research.

Preacher and Bishop Henry of Wildenstein († 1409): Life of a Man Who Spoke at the Funeral of Charles IV:
Henry of Wildenstein is known to have preached at the funeral of Charles IV in 1378, but there was no biographical study of this preacher until now. The paper focuses on portraying a life of the cleric, who maintained close contact with the papal curia in Avignon and Rome, who held three episcopal offices during his lifetime (in Krujä, Trieste and Pićan), and he also stayed in Bohemia in the 1370s. He is documented to have resided at the court of emperor Charles IV in Prague, as well as at the court of bishop Albert von Sternberg in East Bohemian town Litomyšl. The paper also tries to clarify a question of Henry‘s origin.

Characteristics of the preaching of the Church lies in a clearly specified content, quite different from other public speeches, which is the Word of God. This form of preaching, in terms of the content being the Word of God, and in terms of the form being the word of man, can be described as the word of God in the word of man. Therefore efficiency of the Word of God depends in a sense on its human and linguistic sense. A preacher's word spoken from behind a pulpit should be very powerful. A correct emission is necessary for a beautiful liturgy, but also for a didactic work and preaching. The article, referring to the theory of preaching, point at the importance of a speech therapy in future preachers' training. "Sztuka żywego słowa" obejmuje zagadnienia związane z anatomią, fizjologią, fizyką, fonetyką, psychologią oraz metapsychologią. Jego zda-niem słowo ma moc magiczną, impresyjną. Taką też moc powinno posiadać słowo kaznodziei padające z kościelnej ambony. Aby tak się stało, kaznodzieja powinien być w możliwie najlepszy sposób do tej posługi przygotowany. El jesuita Juan Rodríguez Coronel (1618-1700) fue uno de los predicadores más famosos de la Corte de Carlos II. Sin embargo, es muy poco lo que sabemos de él. Predicó durante más de treinta años en el púlpito de la Real Capilla de los Austrias, se ganó la admiración de la reina madre y dejó su huella en las futuras generaciones de predicadores reales. Además, Rodríguez Coronel utilizó su oratoria para influir en la alta política. Sus sermones son el reflejo de una época. En ellos, amonestaba a ministros ambiciosos de poder, ensalzaba a Mariana de Austria en su papel de regente, criticaba la vanidad que se respiraba en la pequeña corte de la reina María Luisa de Orleans y enseñaba a Carlos II el buen oficio de rey.

Esta biografía se propone recuperar la trayectoria vital de este predicador real, al mismo tiempo que le utiliza como marco para estudiar uno de los reinados menos conocidos de la historia de España. A través del análisis de las fuentes documentales y de numerosos sermones, García Pérez introduce al lector en un mosaico plagado de ambición e intrigas políticas, en el que se dan cita algunos de los personajes que transitaron por la Corte de Carlos II. En el centro de este escenario se halla Juan Rodríguez Coronel, una de las grandes voces del siglo XVII, y también uno de los predicadores más renombrados del reinado del último Austria.

Listening to sermons is getting more and more difficult for a contemporary man. This may be due to the growing discrepancy between language used and understood by listeners and the language of preachers. The language of sermons and homilies is the literary one in its normative-and-didactic form. The official teaching of the Church shows that a considerable importance is attributed to the verbal sphere of preaching. The language of preaching should be correct, esthetic and contemporary. Also, it should be adequate, which is congruent with the reality it describes. In the preaching of the Word of God the content is the most important. The form of the utterance should serve the content.

Father Stanisław Wilczewski Ph.D. became famous as a splendid speech therapist, working theoretically and practically for the sake of the culture of the living word and as an esteemed preacher. This paper aims at presentation of his activities that give testimony to his attention to the quality of the preached words and preaching in general. Wilczewski taught future priests a hygiene of voice, which should be communicative with an internal involvement and the experience of the preaching the Word of God and the preaching action. He was one of the most outstanding preachers in the history of the diocese of Katowice.

In treating matters of religious belief, Vertigo’s Preacher (1995-2000) treads a path bound to provoke any but the most liberal. However, the very same controversy that the comic has raised in past years renders it rich material for scholarly exploration of the graphic depictions of sex and its intersections with violence. Preacher offers a perspective on sex and violence that touches on variety of sexual practices, including necrophilia, bestiality, sadomasochism, and child pornography. The introduction of these rather notorious practices, in a text that evokes the Nietzschean position on God, further fuels the controversy. This paper therefore investigates sexuality, sexual desire and sexual activity in Preacher, focusing specifically on the comic’s presentation of the connection between sex and violence.
