Purpose-The authors' research was carried out with the aim of analyzing perception of luxury and luxury brands among an international sample of young people. Design/methodology/approach-This article was based on an empirical study among 233 respondents. First, a qualitative analysis of content using the respondents' own words was conducted. Then, to show whether there are differences between countries and significant groups of countries, an analysis of variance (one-way ANOVA) was performed and analyzed with Fisher F-test and post-hoc Duncan tests. Findings-Beyond the belief in the existence of two stable groups of developed and developing countries with regard to luxury, this study shows a situation that requires further analysis. The main results show some strong cross-cultural differences in the perception of luxury, which is multi-faceted as demonstrated by previous studies in this field. Research limitations/implications-Results of this exploratory study confirm that the concept of luxury presents multiple facets, and the authors' analysis provides an in-depth survey of the main categories and attributes that can be used to describe this concept. Although this study was only exploratory in nature, a number of comments can be made to highlight the congruence between the concept of luxury for young people and recent academic literature. Practical implications-To maintain their brand equity, companies in the luxury sector seek to improve their image within younger targets. Managerial implications of the authors' research indicate that international luxury companies should take into consideration the multi-faceted concept of luxury in general, but also the main differences between countries in the continuum between the "status" and "emotional" dimensions of luxury. According to the authors' research, luxury companies cannot adopt a global strategy when addressing the six countries analyzed. Some managerial recommendations are developed in this perspective. Originality/value-The additional value of this article stems from its reliance on a cross-cultural in-depth study between six countries (Italy, France, Germany, China, Japan, and USA). The balance between qualitative and quantitative techniques makes this article particularly relevant when drawing both conceptual and managerial conclusions.

Children's rights continue to be subject of international debates. Moving past these debates can be facilitated with an international measure of children's rights. Th is article introduces the Children's Rights Index, an international measure of children's rights for over 190 countries. Th e Children's Rights Index consists of two civil rights, two political rights, two social rights, and two economic rights. Th is article presents country scores on the Children's Rights Index, then examines whether children's rights vary by region and other diff erences, such as country wealth. It is hoped that the Children's Rights Index will provide evidence on children's rights important to the work of governments and nongovernmental organizations, as well as scholars and others concerned about children's welfare.

Unbundling legal services, also termed limited-scope services, a la carte legal services, discrete task representation, or disaggregated legal services, is a form of delivering legal services in which the lawyer breaks down the tasks associated with a legal matter and provides representation to the client only pertaining to a clearly defined portion of the client’s legal needs. The client accepts the responsibility for doing the footwork for the remainder of the legal matter until reaching the desired resolution. Providing unbundled legal services may be considered as one solution to the access to justice problem in our country.The number of unmet legal needs continues to increase in the United States as does the number of self-help individuals. A limited number of studies have addressed the idea of 'strategic' reward systems-the matching of compensation systems to a firm's strategy. Prior research on this topic has been confined to U.S. firms, however, and a number of key questions remain unanswered. Using a sample of 917 employees from two large Swiss financial institutions, we found that pay systems are linked with divisional strategic orientation, but in a different form than prior studies. Additionally, we identify hierarchical position as an important variable in the tailoring of reward systems. Hierarchy has a significant main effect on pay plan design, and an interactive effect with strategic orientation.

To describe the barriers that nurse practitioners (NPs) face and their hopes for the future. Data sources: The study used a qualitative research design, with 10 certified NPs who were recruited through convenience sampling. Data were collected through a face-to-face semi-structured interview, and content analysis was used to analyze the data. Conclusions: NPs in Taiwan are challenged by a number of barriers; however, they remain positive that their circumstances will improve. Implications for practice: The results of this study suggest that there is a need for better communication between policymakers and NPs. Additionally, as recommended by the International Council of Nursing, there is a need for NPs to earn a master's degree and to have formal training prior to beginning work as an NP. Furthermore, to evaluate the NPs' performance, outcome studies need to be conducted. Implementing such recommendations should enable NPs to earn the respect and support of healthcare professionals and administrators.

This special issue focuses on the methodology of video-cued ethnography (VCE) as a process of using film to elicit explanations and responses to educational contexts that can reveal the cultural and socio-political variation in how people understand educational ideas, practices, policies, and relationships. We aim to advance an understanding of the method itself as well as demonstrate its broad potential for anthropological work in the U.S. and internationally in a variety of educational settings.

This book was written for students, academics and legal professionals who work in the field of human rights and human rights protection. In part A, it investigates the developments under international human rights law with regard to human rights protection, with the overall objective to develop an argument for a future international regime of civil liability for the individual and corporate perpetrator of gross human rights violations. In part B, a proposed convention on individual civil liability is set out and discussed. It provides the reader with a detailed description and analysis of the existing possibilities of establishing civil liability for gross human rights violations at the regional and international scale and concludes with the recommendation that only a merged system of the existing means of human rights protection will ensure effective human rights protection at a global scale.

The book is a shortened and revised version of Sascha-Dominik Bachmann's doctoral thesis, submitted to the University of Johannesburg. Dr Bachmann completed the work while serving as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Johannesburg.

Marriage is the foundation of all social relations which further constitutes family. The present study focuses on the perceptions of university students regarding their marriages and selection of marriage partner. Using simple random sampling, 300 students (150 males and 150 females) from faculty of Social Sciences were interviewed through interview schedule. Being exploratory in nature, findings are presented in simple percentages. The findings show a trend of homogamy among university students in mate selection. However, consistence with the prior researches, preference of caste is the main filter even in the educated class of Pakistan.

Th is study investigates the infl uence of hotel attributes on satisfaction of 119 international tourists visiting to Nepal. It further analyzes the eff ect of satisfaction from hotels on revisit intention and recommendations by international tourists.119international tourists visiting to Nepal participated in the study. Correlation and multiple regression analyses were conducted to test hypotheses. Our result shows that among various hotel attributes, service quality and room & front desks plays signifi cant role in satisfaction of international tourists. Th e other attributes like security, business facility, value, food and recreation and security were found to be insignifi cant. Furthermore, satisfaction was found to be signifi cant predictor of both attitudinal loyalty i.e. intentional loyalty and behavioral loyalty i.e. revisit intention. Th ere are lots of practical and research implications of the fi ndings like it's a lesson for Nepal Tourism Board, Hotel Association Of Nepal and other related stakeholders. It guides them as where to focus their energy in terms of generating satisfaction and loyalty from international tourists in case of hotel service.

A comparative analysis of electronic contract formation law in the United States, Mexico, and the international arena is necessary to understand the evolution and future of electronic contracting. Using new communication technologies, such as developmental instruments of electronic commerce, has clear benefits, but also brings risks and uncertainties to electronic contracting. Although modern laws tend toward uniformity in modern transactions, certain aspects may still cause controversy. In purely electronic transactions, the most important legal determination concerns the establishment of an offer and an acceptance, memorialized through electronic messages absent written documentation and the human intervention of an automatic exchange. Consequently, it is necessary to find the adequate juridical solutions that will reduce, if not eliminate, any risks and uncertainties now inherent in electronic transactions.

In American law, the fundamental principles of contract formation can be found in the Uniform Commercial Code, although other laws have been enacted to further regulate electronic transactions. Mexican law is codified in the Código de Comercio, the Código Civil Federal, and other related statutes. Finally, the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods governs international contract law. Although modern laws tend toward uniformity, certain aspects of contract law remain controversial, and therefore encourage review. Comparative analysis of the laws is necessary to keep pace with recent technological changes and to find adequate juridical solutions.

The show is unique in that normal lines of exhibition selection and presentation are ignored; staff work is shown next to student; painter to graphic designer; printmaker to video artist.

This criterion study examined the impact of the cultural dimensions of individualism and collectivism on actual plagiarism in working business students. Given globalization of business and recent business scandals, furthering our understanding of international ethics remains critical. Business students are the potential employees, managers and leaders of organizations in the future. In this study we focus on one form of unethical conduct by business students, i.e. actual plagiarism, and seek to determine the link between this behavior and cultural values of individualism/collectivism and associated stereotypes of Asian/Caucasian students. Our findings suggest that individualists plagiarize more than collectivists, and that no significant differences in plagiarism exist between Asian and Caucasian students, contrary to popular beliefs. The implications of these findings for scholars and managers are discussed.

On medium to long term, the situation in Afghanistan may witness challenging developments. On the internal arena, there is a clear lack of convergence as regards support granted to the democratic advancement in Afghanistan. At the international level, the last conferences (Bonn, December 2011 and Tokyo, July 2012) resulted in mixed results as far as financial aid for post-2014 Afghanistan is concerned. Moreover, different agendas by internal actors hamper the setting up of an integrated strategy able to cope with the critical problems that Afghanistan will be confronted with after 2014.

Rosas received his law degree from the Universidad de Guadalajara in Mexico where he previously obtained the degree of Electrical Mechanic Engineer. Prof. Rosas's postgraduate studies include Harvard Graduate School of Business, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Oxford Centre for Management Studies. He also studied graduate courses on comparative law of Mexico and the United States as well as canon law. He is a doctorando of law at the Universidad Europea de Madrid. He has also been a professor of law at the Universidad de Guadalajara, from which he graduated at the top of his class. He worked at various law firms in Guadalajara and later established a solo practice. Prof. Rosas has spoken at several conferences in Mexico, Spain, and the United States and is the author of numerous essays on the laws of those countries. He was recently elected director of the Commission on Legal affairs for the Advisory Council of the Institute of Mexican Living Abroad where his main role is advising the President of Mexico in the design and formulation of the policies concerning the Mexican communities in the United States. The International Project Risk Assessment (IPRA) Tool and its supporting documentation provides a systematic method to identify, assess, and determine the relative importance of the international -specific risks across a project's life cycle and o f the spectrum of participants needed to allow for subsequent mitigation. In the course of this research it became clear that participants valued the identification and management of overarching project risks and recognized the dangers of exclusive attenti on to only risks within their areas of influence. Although the need for comprehensive risk identification, assessment, and management was acknowledged by all, it was practiced by few. This paper provides an overview of the IPRA tool development, research findings, and recommendations for managing the risks associated with international construction projects.

Purpose: This study was designed to collect and compare nurse staffing standards and staffing levels in six counties: the United States, Canada, England, Germany, Norway, and Sweden. Design: The study used descriptive information on staffing regulations and policies as well as actual staffing levels for registered nurses, licensed nurses, and nursing assistants across states, provinces, regions, and countries. Methods: Data were collected from Internet searches of staffing regulations and policies along with statistical data on actual staffing from reports and documents. Staffing data were converted to hours per resident day to facilitate comparisons across countries. Findings: We found wide variations in both nurse staffing standards and actual staffing levels within and across countries, although comparisons were difficult to make due to differences in measuring staffing, the vagueness of standards, and limited availability of actual staffing data. Both the standards and levels in most countries (except Norway and Sweden) were lower than the recommended levels by experts. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate the need for further attention to nurse staffing standards and levels in order to assure the quality of nursing home care. Clinical Relevance: A high quality of nursing home care requires adequate levels of nurse staffing, and nurse staffing standards have been shown to improve staffing levels.

The study done in this prospective is based on an artificial intelligence system, Globe Expert, which is the only one capable of considering what could happen in a hundred years with objectivity and neutrality. To the question of the triggering cause of humankind’s expansion into outer space, its answer is quite clear: a major crisis of the biosphere. Then, who takes the decision? Without hesitation, Globe Expert points out the transfer of responsibilities to international organizations and private players. The procedure of space exploration emerges as a necessity to understand, anticipate, manage and resolve the Earth’s issues. It is as if the states, by refocusing on earthly problems, have delegated to private players the task of finding solutions and have delegated to international organizations the charge of coordinating and managing this formidable mission. As for the pioneers, they necessarily subscribe to a new vision of society and to the economy of civilization, supported by international organizations that are indispensable for rethinking complex human organizations both on Earth and in outer space. The conclusion of Globe Expert is remarkably simple: the place of human beings is central. At no time, is it challenged by advanced technologies. This positioning is structured by philosophical bearings. Globe Expert concurs with the thought of Teilhard de Chardin by showing that nothing can be done and nothing will be done outside of this “human phenomenon”.

In a world of competing flag States and short-term employment, enjoying the benefits provided by a social security system is a difficult, if not impossible, task for many seafarers. The Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, has abandoned the flag State principle in favour of the residence principle for that reason. This article addresses the implementation challenges of this approach by examining the European Union case, and highlights the advantages of the residence principle in terms of administrative efficiency and effectiveness, enhanced coordination between social security contributions and personal income tax in cross-border situations, and better use of State aid measures.

Globally, studies have affirmed that implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) generated improved organizational performance. Moreover, TQM is a management approach that was established to seek sources of continuous motion of improvement to provide quality products and hence has become an accepted technique to ensure organizational performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the extent of implementation of TQM and examine its impact on pupils' academic achievement in primary schools in Kenya. The implementation of TQM was assessed through a TQM principle namely top management support. This study was conducted in Teso North sub-county which was purposively sampled due to low learning outcomes as compared to other sub-counties in Kenya. The study was guided by the following objectives: to determine the extent to which TQM was implemented and to establish how the top management support affects the academic achievement of pupils. Descriptive survey was used. Stratified sampling technique was employed to select 44 deputy head teachers and 196 teachers in public primary schools while saturated sampling was used to select 11 deputy head teachers and 83 teachers in private primary schools. Data was collected by structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics in terms of means and standard deviations were used to determine the respondents' perception on extent of implementation of TQM. Spearman's rho was used to measure the strength of relationship and regression analysis was used to measure the extent to which top management support predicted the academic achievement. The findings revealed that the extent of implementation of TQM was moderate. Spearman's correlations showed positive and significant relationship between academic achievement and top management support (r =.648; p <.05). Regression analysis revealed that the effect of implementation of TQM principle on academic achievement was significant (F=1215.060; p< .05). The implications of this result are that top management support is an essential principle of TQM for predicting academic achievements of pupils. Based on these findings, the study proposed that policy makers at the MOE and the head teachers should formulate strategies for maximizing the influence of implementation of TQM for enhancing academic achievement of pupils in primary schools.
