Complaints reported by the public about faulty or damaged infrastructure are important information for the management and maintenance team. Nonetheless, existing system to manage the complaint reports often has the problem of insufficient and ambiguous description about the reported infrastructure which resulting difficulties for the management to take action. The troublesome process of filing a complaint report could have reduced the willingness of public to make a report. Therefore, this paper is to introduce solution to the situation through an infrastructure damage complaining system with location awareness and photo capturing capabilities.

Paper is presenting results of research on application of simulation software in defining the parameters of the electromagnetic field and temperature distribution in induction heating for metal conductor. Modern simulation programs for calculation of parameters of electromagnetic field and head transfer are based on numerical methods such as Finite Differences Methods (FDM) and Finite Element Method (FEM). In this paper is used ELTA simulation program, based on FDM method, product of the Flux control.

A microcontroller based circuit is developed for driving the IGBT switches of a bridge resonant power converter used for induction heating of metals. The effect of varying the resonant load parameters due to the heating process decreases the converter output power and increases switching loses. In order to maintain constant output power, operating constantly on the resonant frequency, microcontroller program and circuit are developed. This circuit corrects the operating frequency according to the load changes by detecting output voltage to current phase difference, hence keeping the converter at resonance. The presented circuit is tested with simulations and its operation is confirmed practically with a prototype board.

The COP of the refrigeration increasing the performance and to get high efficiency of the refrigeration system. By using nano coating over the evaporator of the refrigeration component the objective can be achieved. The improper heat dissipation occurred in the heat exchanger components causes' effect in performance. The vapour compression refrigeration system consuming the high power. Though the energy taken for the refrigeration process has increased and leads to more power consumption. In order to increase the performance, Nano coating Copper Oxide has been applied over the evaporator. By applying the Nano coating Copper Oxide over the evaporator the COP increased. In result the energy required for the refrigeration process and global warming problems has been reduced. By addition of nanoparticles to the refrigeration results in improvements in the COP of the refrigeration, thereby improving the performance of the refrigeration system. In this experiment the effect of using CuO-R134a in the vapour compression system expected COP will be increased by 5% with nano coating.

Abstract - Information and knowledge engineering is a significant field for various applications on processes around
the globe. This investigation paper provides an overview of the status of development of the concept and how it relates to other areas such as information technology. The area that is of primary concern to this research is the connection with artificial intelligence. There is a revelation that knowledge engineering derives most of its operational domains from the principles of that concept. There is also a strong relation with the area of software development. As the research shows, they both have the same end products and procedures of attaining it. They both produce a computer program that deals with a particular issue in their contexts. The discussion also focuses on the two modeling approaches that are canonical probabilistic and decision based software processes. There is a description of the typical knowledge engineering process that each activity has to go through for efficient operation. The paper also takes a look at of the applications of knowledge-based systems in the industry.

Most of the petrol bunks today have manipulated the pumps such that it displays the amount as entered but the quantity of fuel filled in the customer's tank is much lesser than the displayed value. let the pumps are tampered for the benefit of the petrol bunks owner. This results in huge profits for the petrol bunks but at the same time the customers are cheated. All the vehicles in India consist of analog meters hence it is not possible to precisely know the amount of fuel currently in the vehicle and also it is not possible to cross check the quantity of fuel filled in the petrol bunk. To creating a digital display of the exact amount of fuel contained in the vehicles tank and also helps in cross checking the quantity of fuel filled at the petrol bunk. Finally once the fuel is filled at a bunk the device also sends an SMS to the vehicle owner indicating the amount, quantity, and date, time to find the exact location of the vehicle.

The main motivation of gait rehabilitation is to help a patient recovering from injury, illness or disease, to recover some locomotor abilities in order to promote as much independence as possible in activities of daily living tasks, and to assist the patient in compensating for deficits that cannot be treated medically. However, the amount of hands-on therapy that patients can receive is limited, as economic pressures are inherent in the health care system. Therefore, worldwide efforts are being made to automate locomotor training. Robotic devices has the potential to make therapy more affordable and thus more available for more patients and for more time. This article reviews the most important characteristics and features of the current robot devices for gait rehabilitation, both in clinical use and in the phase of research.

What is the impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on the human condition? In order to address this question, in 2012 the European Commission organized a research project entitled The Onlife Initiative: concept reengineering for rethinking societal concerns in the digital transition. This volume collects the work of the Onlife Initiative. It explores how the development and widespread use of ICTs have a radical impact on the human condition.

ICTs are not mere tools but rather social forces that are increasingly affecting our self-conception (who we are), our mutual interactions (how we socialise); our conception of reality (our metaphysics); and our interactions with reality (our agency). In each case, ICTs have a huge ethical, legal, and political significance, yet one with which we have begun to come to terms only recently.

The impact exercised by ICTs is due to at least four major transformations: the blurring of the distinction between reality and virtuality; the blurring of the distinction between human, machine and nature; the reversal from information scarcity to information abundance; and the shift from the primacy of stand-alone things, properties, and binary relations, to the primacy of interactions, processes and networks.

Such transformations are testing the foundations of our conceptual frameworks. Our current conceptual toolbox is no longer fitted to address new ICT-related challenges. This is not only a problem in itself. It is also a risk, because the lack of a clear understanding of our present time may easily lead to negative projections about the future. The goal of The Manifesto, and of the whole book that contextualises, is therefore that of contributing to the update of our philosophy. It is a constructive goal. The book is meant to be a positive contribution to rethinking the philosophy on which policies are built in a hyperconnected world, so that we may have a better chance of understanding our ICT-related problems and solving them satisfactorily.

The Manifesto launches an open debate on the impacts of ICTs on public spaces, politics and societal expectations toward policymaking in the Digital Agenda for Europe’s remit. More broadly, it helps start a reflection on the way in which a hyperconnected world calls for rethinking the referential frameworks on which policies are built.

The objective of this work is to automatically recognize faces from video sequences in a realistic, unconstrained setup in which illumination conditions are extreme and greatly changing, viewpoint and user motion pattern have a wide variability, and video input is of low quality. At the centre of focus are face appearance manifolds: this thesis presents a significant advance of their understanding and application in the sphere of face recognition. The two main contributions are the Generic Shape-Illumination Manifold recognition algorithm and the Anisotropic Manifold Space clustering.

The Generic Shape-Illumination Manifold algorithm shows how video sequences of unconstrained head motion can be reliably compared in the presence of greatly changing imaging conditions. Our approach consists of combining a priori domain-specific knowledge in the form of a photometric model of image formation, with a statistical model of generic face appearance variation. One of the key ideas is the reillumination algorithm which takes two sequences of faces and produces a third, synthetic one, that contains the same poses as the first in the illumination of the second.

The Anisotropic Manifold Space clustering algorithm is proposed to automatically determine the cast of a feature-length film, without any dataset-specific training information. The method is based on modelling coherence of dissimilarities between appearance manifolds: it is shown how inter- and intra-personal similarities can be exploited by mapping each manifold into a single point in the manifold space. This concept allows for a useful interpretation of classical clustering approaches, which highlights their limitations. A superior method is proposed that uses a mixture-based generative model to hierarchically grow class boundaries corresponding to different individuals.

The Generic Shape-Illumination Manifold is evaluated on a large data corpus acquired in real-world conditions and its performance is shown to greatly exceed that of state-of-the-art methods in the literature and the best performing commercial software. Empirical evaluation of the Anisotropic Manifold Space clustering on a popular situation comedy is also described with excellent preliminary results.

The paper reports on both methodological and substantive findings. It presents a method for generating simplified representations for regional urban populations, their geographical sub-populations and communities. the method generates greatly simplified high-resolution socio-economic profiles of populated geographical areas from complex large census data sets.

Skripsi merupakan tahap akhir yang harus ditempuh oleh mahasiswa di Politeknik Negeri Malang dalam hal ini Program Studi Teknik Informatika. Pada tahap ini mahasiswa diharuskan membangun laporan skripsi berdasarkan disiplin ilmu yang sudah didapatkan selama proses perkuliahan di kampus. Penggunaan metode FAST (Framework for the Application of System Thinking) untuk membangun aplikasi berdasarkan analisa PIECES (Performance, Information, Economy, Control, Efficiency, Service) sangat cocok digunakan karena metode ini dapat memahami dan menganalisa kebutuhan user. Aplikasi ini diharapkan dapat membantu panitia pada Program Studi Teknik Informatika Politeknik Negeri Malang untuk pengelolaan skripsi. Sistem ini dibangun menggunakan bahasa pemrograman php dengan framework Fuelphp dan database MySql. Penggunaan metode FAST dalam perancangan dan pembangunan aplikasi ini tepat berdasarkan hasil dari 2 pengujian. Hasil dari pengujian fungsional menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi ini sudah berjalan dengan baik sedangkan berdasarkan hasil pengujian kegunaan, menurut 5% user aplikasi ini sangat mudah digunakan, sedangkan 85% user aplikasi ini mudah digunakan dan 10% user mengatakan bahwa aplikasi ini sulit digunakan.

Rich pictures (RP) are common in object-oriented analysis and design courses, but students seem to have problems in integrating them in their projects' workflow. A new software tool is being developed, specific for RP authoring. To better understand students' issues and working practice with RP, and gather requirements for the tool, we followed a user-centered design approach and performed a usability test with an early prototype. The findings suggest the presence of a gap between some of the modern object-oriented development practices and engineering students' values: some techniques, like RP, presuppose design skills that are alien to our students. To bridge this gap our tool aims at making design-specific skills optional, enhancing the conceptual analytical skills that software analysis shares with design. Further studies will be conducted to assess the impact of the tool on learning.

A strategy for adaptive control and energetic optimization of aerobic fermentors was implemented, with both air flow and agitation speed as manipulated variables. This strategy is separable in its components: control, optimization, estimation. We optimized parameter’s estimation (from the usual KLa correlation) using sinusoidal excitation of air flow and agitation speed. We have implemented parameter’s estimation trough recursive least squares algorithm with forgetting factor. We carried separate essays on control, optimization and estimation algorithms. We carried our essays using an original computational simulation environment, with noise and delay generating facilities for data sampling and filtering.

Our results show the convergence and robustness of the estimation algorithm used, improved with use of both forgetting factor and KLa dead-band facilities. Control algorithm used in our work compares favorably with PID using the integrated area criteria for deviation between oxygen molarity and critical molarity (set point). Optimization algorithm clearly reduces energetic consumption, respecting critical molarity. Integration of control, optimization and adaptive algorithms was implemented, but future work is needed for stability. Methods were defined and implemented for stability improvement. We have implemented data acquisition and computer manipulation of air flow and agitation speed for actual fermentors.

The k-means algorithm is a partitional clustering method. Over 60 years old, it has been successfully used for a variety of problems. The popularity of k-means is in large part a consequence of its simplicity and efficiency. In this paper we are inspired by these appealing properties of k-means in the development of a clustering algorithm which accepts the notion of "positively" and "negatively" labelled data. The goal is to discover the cluster structure of both positive and negative data in a manner which allows for the discrimination between the two sets. The usefulness of this idea is demonstrated practically on the problem of face recognition, where the task of learning the scope of a person's appearance should be done in a manner which allows this face to be differentiated from others.

The study addresses the challenges and transformations generated by access to the data and information management activity, considering the time to retrieve the correct information for decision-making. The greater pain organization, the more complex nature of the problems arising from the volume of data and information. In this scenario , the flow of information plays an important role in generating competitive advantages on products and services and the Engineering Information (EI) , comes with an interlocking set of formal techniques for creating , planning, analysis, design and construction of systems Information (SI) , reflecting the organizational efficiency and Information Management (IM). This work aims to conceptually relate the Information Management, Information System with Information Engineering, through the investigation of its structural elements. The triangulation of the concepts offers an understanding of how Information Engineering participates in the process of creation of information as a strategic element for decision-making. Methodologically, the study is classified as exploratory, qualitative non-probabilistic. We also use the literature and documents to build a theoretical map with elements related to information management, information systems and information engineering research. As a result of the study, EI is conceptually presented as an integrated set of formal techniques by which business models, data models and process models are constructed from a knowledge base far-reaching, to create and maintain information systems focusing on strategy and competitive advantage, generated by suitable and qualified manipulation of the processes described. Organizations, small and large, for profit and non-profit, service oriented as well as manufacturing, have continued to increase their expenditures in information technology (IT) in recent years throughout the world. These expenditures in manufacturing floor and office workflow automation, PCs, application packages, customized software development, communications and wireless networking, the Internet, and web-based applications, have been intended to be investments for improving efficiency, increasing effectiveness, and maintaining or advancing competitive position. Significant challenge exists in the effective monitoring and management of engineering design and development projects. Due to traits such as contextual variation and scale, detailed understanding of engineering projects and activity are difficult to form, with monitoring hence reliant on interpretation of managerial personnel and adherence to defined performance indicators. This paper presents a novel approach to the quantitative monitoring and analysis of engineering activity through computational topic identification and analysis of low-level communication data. Through three metrics of communication activity, this approach enables detailed detection and tracking of activity associated with specific project work areas. By application to 11,832 emails within two industry email corpora, this work identifies four distinct patterns in activity, and derives seven characteristics of communication activity within engineering design and development. Patterns identified are associated with background discussion, focused working, and the appearance of issues, supporting detailed managerial understanding. Characteristics identified relate to through-process norms against which a manager may compare and assess. Such project-specific information extends the ability of managers to understand the activity within their specific project scenario. Through detailed description of activity and its characteristics, in tandem with existing toolsets, a manager may be supported in their interpretation and decision-making processes.

This paper provides metaschemas for some of the main database modeling notations used in industry. Two Entity Relationship (ER) notations (Information Engineering, and Barker) are examined in detail, as well as Object Role Modeling (ORM) conceptual schema diagrams. The discussion of optionality, cardinality and multiplicity is widened to include Unified Modeling Language (UML) class diagrams. Issues addressed in the metamodel analysis include the normalization impact of non-derived constraints on derived associations, the influence of orthogonality on language transparency, and trade-offs between simplicity and expressibility. To facilitate comparision, the same modeling notation is used to display each metaschema. For this purpose, ORM is used because of its greater expressibility and clarity.

Now-a-days technology has developed to a large extend. At the same time the need for systems with automation and high security are preferred. To overcome new challenges, such as generation diversification, greenhouse gas emissions regulation, energy conservation, demand response and a new liberalized market system. It is clear that these cannot be resolved with the current infrastructure. Global energy generation and delivery systems are transitioning to a new computerized " smart grid ". One of the principle components of the smart grid is an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). AMI replaces the analog meters with computerized systems that report usage over digital communication interfaces, e.g., phone lines. However, with this infrastructure comes new risk. Smart grid is the integration of advanced information, communication and networking technologies in traditional electric grid to make it smarter and faster in making decisions. The new proposed electric grid is helpful for providing uninterrupted power supply to the loads with automated demand management. The demand management was proposed with demand response management by shifting the loads to the weak bus once if the bus is loaded with its maximum capacity. To improve the performance of the power system, smart grid technology is implemented with automated metering interface that provides two way communications between the utility and supply. THE GROWING DEMAND of electricity, the aging infrastructure, and the increasing greenhouse gas emission are some of the challenges with the traditional power grid. Recent blackouts [1] have further corroborated these issues, grid into a more responsive, efficient, and reliable system. The smart grid [2], widely believed to be the future power grid, offers improved efficiency, reliability, and environmental friendliness in power generation, transmission, distribution, consumption, and management, by integration of advanced information and communication technologies. Demand response management (DRM) is the response system of end users to changes in electricity prices over time or to other forms of incentives. In the smart grid, DRM plays a key role in improving different aspects of both supply and demand sides. For instance, DRM can result in lower bills and higher utility efficiency for end users. DRM can also reduce the cost of power generation or improve the revenues to retailers or utility companies (UCs). In DSM, the pricing mechanisms and direct control strategies are employed by the energy suppliers to affect consumers' consumption behaviors and reshape the total load [3]–[5]. The time-of-use pricing strategy sets different prices during the day to encourage consumers to shift their demand to off-peak hours [7]–[9]. Similar to the time-of-use pricing, the critical peak pricing applies a pre specified high price during the designated critical peak periods [10], [11]. Along with the DSM techniques, the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) into the grid can also effectively increase the grid's capacity and reduce the emission of CO2 [12], [13]. Equipped with the distributed energy generation, the residential customers can also participate in the electricity market as an energy supplier. In this system we make use of two algorithms the demand response management algorithm along with v/f controls.

Textiles are indispensable part of human life. Now a days; textile finishes not only enhance the feel and drape of fabrics but can also provide extraordinary hygienic properties like making it antimicrobial in nature. Nature has been a source of medicinal agents for thousands of years and an impressive number of modern drugs have been isolated from natural sources. Pisidium guajava (Guava) leaf family name is Myrtaceae. Leaf and bark extracts have in vitro antimicrobial activity mostly associated with flavonoids such as Morin glycosides, quercetin and quercetin glycosides. Antimicrobial activity of Pisidium guajava, studied from dried leaves.The chemical nature of the extract was determined and extractions of active substance from the leaves were done by using ethanol. The method of application of this herbal extract on cotton, organic cotton and bamboo fabrics using citric acid as cross-linking agent was processed in 80oC for 15 minutes with pH level 4.5. The antimicrobial activity of the finished cotton, organic cotton and bamboo fabrics based on optimized process parameters was assessed against bacteria that normally exist in the textile materials like Gram positive, Staphylococcus aureus and Gram negative, Escherichia coli by paper disc method and also fabrics evaluated objectively.

Researchers and scientists are looking forward for the new fiber sources for the sustainable processing. The ultimate goal is to produce an organic fibrous material that can be utilized in textile industry and to manufacture eco-friendly products. In this circumstance here emerges a fiber from water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) an aquatic weed which has been attracted worldwide as a threat to biodiversity. Hence this paper highlights the physical, chemical and structural characterization of the fiber extracted from Eichhornia crassipes. The fiber was examined for the physical properties such as fiber length, diameter, elongation, moisture absorbency and fineness as well as mechanical properties by analyzing its tensile strength test. The structural and functional characterization of the fiber is examined using the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and IR spectroscopy (FTIR). The thermal behavior of the fiber is analyzed using the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).

The multiple criteria nature of most real world problems has boosted research on multi-objective algorithms that can tackle such problems effectively, with the smallest possible computational burden. Particle Swarm Optimization has attracted the interest of researchers due to its simplicity, effectiveness and efficiency in solving numerous single-objective optimization problems. Up-to-date, there are a significant number of multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization approaches and applications reported in the literature. This chapter aims at providing a review and discussion of the most established results on this field, as well as exposing the most active research topics that can give initiative for future research.

The paper suggests introducing modified OSPF protocol, with a kind of command protocol between neighboring routers for exchange of some control data. This paper describes the implementation of a new module in NCTUns simulator, for a previously proposed routing protocol. The NCTUns network simulator and emulator is a high-fidelity and extensible network simulator capable of simulating various devices and protocols used in both wired and wireless networks. It uses an open-system architecture to enable protocol modules to be easily added to the simulator. Consequently, the implementation of the proposed routing protocol is expected to enable comparison of the proposed routing protocol with current routing protocols and eventually show performance improvement. Over the last few years, hybrid electric cars have taken significant role in automotive market. There are successful technological solutions of hybrid-electric propulsion systems implemented in commercial passenger cars. Every automobile manufacturer of hybrid vehicles has unique hybrid propulsion system. In this paper, all implemented systems are described, analyzed and compared.

In this paper mathematical modeling of the magnitudes of H bridge power converter with serial resonant load is presented. A mathematical analysis of the IGBT switches operation mode in the power converter is given. The operation of the IGBT transistors in the converter is described by a set of differential equations. The differential equations calculations that describe the work of IGBT switches are derived from the mathematical program Mathematica 7. The results in the paper are applied in practical realized the power converter.

The objective of this project is to find the alive humans in destroyed building with the help of rescue robot in disaster prone and bomb blast areas. The alive human detection sensor is the special type of sensor which has two elements, the live body sensor and Amplifier Circuit. The passive infrared radiation emitting from the alive human bodies are sensed by the sensor and if there is a variation due to movement of alive human body, the difference output is generated. It will be amplified by differential amplifier and then the signal is fed to another amplifier unit in order to amplify the voltage level. Then the amplified signal is given to flash type reprogrammable microcontroller which controls the motor connected to the robot model. The robot moves according to the instructions provided by the operator. If the sensor detects the presence of alive human body, it forces the robot to stop there and microcontroller will activate the alarm. The driver circuit is constructed with transistor, which acts as a switch to turn ON and turn OFF alarm. Now the alarm makes the sound for the alive body indication.

The main objective of this project is to be produce copper reinforced metal matrix composite (MMC) layers using micron sized AlN particles via friction stir processing (FSP) in order to enhance surface mechanical properties. Micro structural evaluation using Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) indicated that an increase in traverse speed and a decrease in rotational speed cause a reduction in the grain size of different groove width (0,0.4,0.8,1.2 mm) of stir zone (SZ) for the specimens friction stir processed (FSPed) without AlN particles. It was found that upon addition of AlN particles, wear properties were improved. This behavior was further supported by SEM images of wear surfaces. Results demonstrated that the micro composite produced by FSP exhibited enhanced wear resistance and higher average friction coefficient in comparison with pure copper. Tensile properties and fracture characteristics of the specimens FSPed with and without AlN particles and pure copper were also evaluated. According to the results, the MMC layer produced by FSP showed higher strength and lower elongation than pure copper while a remarkable elongation was observed for FSPed specimen without AlN particles and been greatly developed by the use of AlN.

A Wireless Sensor Network is a multiple collection of large number of sensor nodes. These sensor nodes are used to collect the information from the surroundings and pass it to the base station. Data Aggregation is an important technique to achieve power resource effectively in the sensor network. Because sensor node has limited battery power so data aggregation techniques have been proposed for WSN. The data from the multiple sensor nodes are aggregated is usually performed by averaging method. The aggregated data are stored into header aggregator node and it is highly susceptible to attacks. To address this security issue, Iterative Filtering algorithms are used to monitor sensor nodes and provide great promise by detecting vulnerable errors. For transferring aggregator data from aggregated node to base station, this paper introduces Cryptography and Random Key Generation technique. We use encryption technique for original message and simultaneously create a key for that encrypted message. That generated key and encrypted message will be sent to the receiver through the possible paths where the hackers cannot hack the original message.

In this paper, a brushless three-phase synchronous induction motor with two stators which can self-start as a wound-rotor induction motor without external secondary resistance is proposed. In the proposed motor, two excitation schemes, separately and self-ones, can be realized. In the separately excitation scheme, the proposed machine can operate as a synchronous generator-motor. The proposed machine compared with traditional brushless synchronous motor with AC exciter has the following advantages : the rotor structure is simple and robust, the operating reliability is high, and the high starting torque is realized.

At present, the finite element method has become one of the most efficient and widely used numerical methods for solving various engineering problems. Its main power is mostly connected with its universality, simplicity and flexibility to be easy applied to various problems. In this paper is presented development of new experimental model of single phase shaded pole motor using soft magnetic materials. At the beginning, using analytic approach with symmetrical components a mathematical model of the basic model is developed. Accuracy of the model is verified by an experiment. Afterwards, using Method of Genetic algorithm (GA) and introducing as a target function electromagnetic torque, new optimized motor model with improved electromagnetic torque is derived. Further on by application of soft magnetic materials in optimized motor model a new experimental motor model is derived with decreased losses and improved efficiency. Comparative analysis of all motor models using Finite Element Method (FEM) is performed.

Sadržaj: U ovom radu predlaže se uvuđenje modifikacije OSPF protokola, nekom vrstom komandi protokola između susednih rutera za razmenu nekih kontrolnih podatoka. Ovaj rad opisuje implementaciju novog modula u NCTUNS simulatoru za prethodno predlozeni protokol rutiranja. Mrežni NCTUNS simulator i emulator je visoko doverljiv, i imogućava simulaciju uređaja i protokola koji se koriste u žičnim i bezžičnim mrežama. NCTUNS mrezni simulator koristi otvorenu sistem arhitekturu da bi se moduli protokola lakše dodali simulatoru. Sledstveno, izvršiće se komparacija predložene modifikacije OSPF protokola sa aktuerlnim OSPF protokolom rutiranja I na bazi toga pokazati poboljšanje performansi. Klučne reči-rutiranja, modifikovan OSPF protokol, racunarske mreze, NCTUNS mrezni simulator.

This paper provides metaschemas for some of the main database modeling notations used in industry. Two Entity Relationship (ER) notations (Information Engineering, and Barker) are examined in detail, as well as Object Role Modeling (ORM) conceptual schema diagrams. The discussion of optionality, cardinality and multiplicity is widened to include Unified Modeling Language (UML) class diagrams. Issues addressed in the metamodel analysis include the normalization impact of non-derived constraints on derived associations, the influence of orthogonality on language transparency, and trade-offs between simplicity and expressibility. To facilitate comparision, the same modeling notation is used to display each metaschema. For this purpose, ORM is used because of its greater expressibility and clarity.

This paper presents the first steps taken by several European universities to study various features of the implementation of a virtual university in electrical and information engineering. 1) The usefulness of static Web material's replacing printed text was studied. 2) Simulators of complex data processing and power generating systems were created. 3) Experiences with a remote-controlled process facility were collected. 4) Manufacturing of integrated circuits was visualized. 5) Web-based self-evaluation and feedback systems were implemented for student response assessment.

Knowledge Management (KM) research requires expertise from many different disciplines. To help with KM research activities of different groups that are geographically distributed, a new Knowledge Management in Organisations (KMO) structure is proposed. The organisational structure of KMO is based on decentralised units where autonomy and independence are established in each group. Effective design of the system requires that a proper format for representing and organising the shared knowledge is crucial. This paper describes the development of metadata and ontology for our KMO system to support the sharing of knowledge for the distributed partners between the four universities.

In this paper, we study the problem of graph coloring and propose a novel particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for it. We use the PSO evolutionary progress to improve a simple deterministic greedy algorithm. The new algorithm can achieve a result that is better than known heuristic algorithms do, as verified by an extensive simulation study.

The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of jump circuit training and on court volleyball conditioning on explosive power among volleyball players. To achieve the purpose thirty volleyball players were randomly selected as subjects from the department of physical education, Annamalai University. The subject were divided into three groups each comprising of ten each as experimental-I (court volleyball conditioning), experimental-II (jump circuit training) and control groups. The average age, height, and weight of the experimental group were 17 to 24 years. The experimental group-I and experimental-II had undergone 60 minutes of court volleyball conditioning and jump circuit training three alternate days in a week for eight weeks whereas control group did not participate any type of specific training. The criterion variables confined to this study were explosive power measured by sergeant jump before and after the training programme. The collected data were statistically analysed by using analysis of co variance (ANCOVA). On the basis of the result, it was found that there was significant improvement on explosive power due to the above said training among volleyball players.
