In Greece, goal achievement for modern Primary Local Government is highly dependent on employee performance. If municipal employees are not properly motivated, the possibility of achieving organizational goals is low. Thus, the subject of employee motivation is of specific interest, especially in the terms of understanding how motivating parameters function. The current thesis explores public service motivation and was designed using the Municipality of Florina’s employees as a study case. The thesis approached the topic, theoretically with a literature review, followed by an empirical study. The sample size of the study was consisted of 79 employees (68% of overall population), who participated in anonymity by completing a structured questionnaire. From analysis of the collected data, motivation factor impact levels were revealed. From the sum of factors studied, eleven were highly motivating and three were low motivators. The study concludes that the Municipality of Florina’s employees consider extrinsic and intrinsic motivation factors as being of equal importance. Low motivating factors were extrinsic. The current study also revealed that depending on employee demographic characteristics, factors were found to differentiate in motivational impact. Thus, the impact level factors have on Municipality of Florina’s employees is associated with demographic characteristics such as sex, age, level of education and work experience.

The object of this study was to evaluate the nutritive composition of different verities of apples for this twenty different verities of apples commonly available in Balochistan namely Amri, Bluish golden, Bonza, Discovery, Elastar, Florina, Gala, Gloster 69, Golden delicious Grany Smith, Green Sleeves, Ida Red, Kidds orange, Mushadi, Red delicious, Summer red, Tydes Menearly, Samootree, Kaja and Spartan have been quantitatively analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Flame Photometry and other chemical methods. Results show that the fat soluble vitamin A is 0.89mg/100gm (mean) on the other hand the concentration of water soluble vitamin C is 3.8mg/100gm, The mean composition of different mineral is as follows sodium 10.06mg/100gm, potassium 84.43mg/100gm, calcium 15.67mg/100gm, magnesium 11.08mg/100gm, Iron 5.78mg/100gm and phosphorus 12.19mg/100gm. Average Weight and volume of amri apple were comparatively higher i.e., 104.6 gm and 129mL as compared with others. The median pH value is 3.91, the median percentage of moisture, ash and brix is 81.95%, 1.63% and 15.02%, respectively. The percentage of Fat lies between 0.2-5.15%, Fiber lies b/w 1.13 -8.60%, protein lies b/w 0.17-0.74% and pectin lies b/w 0.43-1.63%. The highest value of total sugar of Samootree is comparatively high i.e., 20.13, the concentration of reducing sugar in kaja were comparatively low i.e., 7.10 and the concentration of non reducing sugar in Green Sleevesis was comparatively higher than other verities i.e., 7.92.

Manastır’da yayınlanan birçok gazete ve dergi arasında İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti’nin bir yayın organı olarak ön plana çıkan gazetelerden birisi olması sebebiyle, biz de bu araştırmamızda Neyyir-i Hakikat Gazetesini ele aldık. Yayınlanmış olduğu 1324, 1325 ve 1326 yıllarının önemli siyasi ve sosyal olaylarına tanıklık eden gazete, taşıdığı tarihsel materyal açısından oldukça zengindir. Müdir-i Mesul: Vatan, Sahib-i İmtiyaz: Evlad-ı Vatan başlıkları ile yayımlanan Neyyir-i Hakikat Gazetesi toplam 317 sayı yayımlanmıştır. Bayezid Kütüphanesi Hakkı Tarık Us koleksiyonu ve Ankara Milli Kütüphane koleksiyonlarında tespit ettiğimiz sayılar dairesinde; öncelikle gazetenin tanıtımı, yayın politikası, yazarları ve şahit olduğu önemli tarihi olaylar karşısındaki tutumunu yansıtmaya çalışacağız.
Bitola, located both in terms of Turkish History and the History of the Balcans is a very important city. The Ottoman Turks, who dominate the city in XIV. century till 1912, have played active roles in social, cultural and economic development of Bitola. İn this context, Turks, who left also many works around Bitola, influenced life of the citys’s press.
İn this study we have discussed Neyyir-i Hakikat because it is one of the prominent journal of Union and Progress among many newspapers and magazines published in Macedonia.
Neyyir-i Hakikat, which was published in 1908, 1909, 1910 and 1911 that witnessed the major political and social events, has rich historical material. The journal was published with the titles that “Responsible Manager: Homeland, Grantee: Son of Homeland. We do not know exactly how many numbers of the newspaper published so that within the framework of the number that we found in collections of Ankara National Library, firstly try to reflect history of journal, it’s presentation, publication policy, authors and attitude towards the witnessed important events

Η προσφυγική αποκατάσταση, που αναπτύχθηκε στην Ελλάδα μετά τη Μικρασιατική καταστροφή, αποτελεί ένα μοναδικό επίτευγμα του κράτους, το οποίο επηρέασε καταλυτικά την εξέλιξη των πόλεων. Η Φλώρινα, παρά τον σχετικά περιορισμένο αριθμό προσφύγων, συγκριτικά με τα μεγάλα αστικά κέντρα και τις κύριες πόλεις-λιμάνια, συγκεντρώνει ορισμένα χαρακτηριστικά, που την καθιστούν ένα αντιπροσωπευτικό παράδειγμα: α. οι πρόσφυγες κατάγονται από πολλές διαφορετικές περιοχές (Μικρά Ασία, Πόντος, Βαλκάνια), β. το ποσοστό των προσφύγων επί των γηγενών κατοίκων προσομοιάζει με τις κύριες προσφυγουπόλεις, γ. εφαρμόστηκε ένα εντατικό στεγαστικό πρόγραμμα που επέκτεινε αποφασιστικά τον υφιστάμενο πολεοδομικό ιστό και γ. ο κοινωνικός και αστικός σχηματισμός εξελίχθηκε με την αφομοίωση της προσφυγικής εγκατάστασης. Με τις συντονισμένες προσπάθειες του κράτους, με την έντονη παρουσία των συλλόγων και τη δράση συγκεκριμένων προσώπων, οι προσφυγικοί συνοικισμοί κατάφεραν να επιλύσουν το μείζον πρόβλημα της κατοικίας, αλλά και να προσδώσουν στην πόλη νέες προοπτικές. Μέσα από αρχειακή έρευνα, επιτόπια καταγραφή, βιβλιογραφική επισκόπηση και τελικά, από την κριτική ανάλυση του φαινομένου, αναδύεται η σημασία του εγχειρήματος σε κοινωνικοοικονομικό, πολεοδομικό και αρχιτεκτονικό επίπεδο.

The consumption of different apple cultivars contributes to improved human health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Apple fruit is a major source of phenolic compounds, dietary fibers (pectin and cellulose) and antioxidants. The current review demonstrates the nutritional potential of apple cultivar Florina and focused on the chemical composition and antioxidant potential of its fruits. Physicochemical characteristics such as moisture and ash content, phytochemical composition including sugar content, organic acids, phenolic acids (hydroxycinnamic acid), fl avonols, dihydrochalcones, anthocya-nins, mineral composition in apple cultivar Florina were summarized. Moreover, the present study evaluated the antioxidant potential of Florina apple fruits for healthy nutrition.

An extensive cemetery was revealed during the rescue excavation conducted in the coal mine of Amyntaio, Florina district. Pottery indicates continuous use of the site from the middle byzantine era (early 12th or even late 11th century) to the Ottoman occupation (late 14th century). Nevertheless substantial quantity of handmade pottery could indicate towards an earlier phase, even since the so called “dark ages”.

The New Caucasus is a particular case of pure refugees’ settlement in the prefecture of Florina. It is not the only frontier settlement nor the only village created by refugees coming from the same geographical area. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that it was created from the start, literally from scratch, in a place uninhabited and uncultivated until then, further right next to national borders. This study attempts to record the refugees’ history and memory, through research and archival material evidence, a review of relevant literature and, in particular, the recording of personal testimonies of refugees first and second generation. To capture the lived experience, individual semi-structured interview using a questionnaire was chosen as a methodological tool. All questions were open-ended, except for the first part relating to demographics. The analysis and processing of the resulting data was performed by the method of qualitative content analysis. The sample consisted of 11 informants born between 1918 and 1933, which was a convenient sampling.

From the study of the Greek bumblebee fauna (Hymenoptera: Apidae, Bombini), species lists have been published based on both literature records and original data from collected bees. Since 1995 a special effort to confirm with newly collected bees all bumblebee species reported in literature records for Greece has been in progress. Although numerous specimens have been collected and examined and in some instances yielding new Bombus species for the Greek insect fauna, some species, mainly those reported in older references, have not yet been found. Recently, identification of bumblebees collected in the Florina Prefecture - Northwest Macedonia, during the years 2006 and 2007 yielded information for two “literature cited” species, Bombus subterraneus (Linnaeus 1758) and Bombus cryptarum (Fabricius 1775). A B. subterraneus queen (collected at 40°47´38N, 21°26´10E on Vicia cracca) was distinguished by morphological characteristics and a worker B. cryptarum (collected at 40°41´58,7N, 21°28´18,5E on Echium spp) was revealed using mitochondrial DNA RFLP analysis of the CO1 gene. These new records from Florina are provided with comments, confirming the species presence in Greece for the first time after approximately 40 years.

This research aims to map and evaluate the educational institutions been established during the civil war period by the “National Liberation Front” (EAM) in western Macedonia, referring to the Slav-speaking population. The study focus on a) the consideration of the mentioned educational institutions from the perspective of the history of education b) the promotion of the Dragoumi’s files been kept in the “Gennadius Library”concerning the slav-speaking of the Florina’s region and c) the monitoring of the newspaper “Educative Akritas” having been issued in Florina during that period and referring to the resistance of the Greek-speaking to the “National Liberation Front’s ” (EAM) strategies and objectives.

The foundation of the Association under the name “Educational Association Aristotle” "took place on July 30, 1941. The edition of Aristotle's magazine in January 1957, strengthened the power of the ancient speech and mobilized a local core of educated people to create a public forum of expression. The investigation is based on the scientific hypothesis that the instrumental use of Greek antiquity in this magazine is a conscious choice that aims to build the “national self” and the degradation of “otherness” through the construction of the concept of “national continuity” and “national cohesion”, in a long history and in different contexts. The main purpose of this scientific study is to describe the use and the interpretation of Greek antiquity, as it was presented in the text of the magazine "Aristotle". Specific objectives of the study are: 1) to record quantitatively the existing references to antiquity in Florina and the surrounding region, through specific issues of the magazine 2) to determine the qualitative characteristics of these three references 3) to determine their relationship a ) with the dominant ideology of the period and b) with the ideology of the authors involved in the magazine and 4) to evaluate these reports. The technique of content analysis was the research tool by which we studied the magazine (qualitative and quantitative).

Η παρούσα εργασία πραγματεύεται το θέμα του εμφύλιου πολέμου. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, ασχολείται με τα γεγονότα που εκτυλίχτηκαν κατά τη διάρκεια αυτής της περιόδου στο νομό Φλώρινας. Έτσι, δίνεται μεγαλύτερη έμφαση στην περίοδο 1946-1949. Ωστόσο, γίνονται μερικές αναφορές σε γεγονότα που έλαβαν χώρα λίγο πριν ή λίγο μετά από αυτό το χρονικό φάσμα για να μπορέσει να γίνει αποτελεσματικότερα και πιο ολοκληρωμένα η περιγραφή κάποιων γεγονότων και να διευκολυνθούν οι συνεντευξιαζόμενοι/πληροφορητές στην αφήγησή τους.
Βασικός στόχος της εργασίας ήταν να αναζητηθούν, να συγκεντρωθούν και να καταγραφούν πληροφορίες και γεγονότα που σχετίζονται με τον εμφύλιο πόλεμο στη Φλώρινα και την περιοχή της έτσι όπως αυτά παρουσιάζονται από άτομα που έχουν εμπλακεί στα γεγονότα άμεσα ή έμμεσα. Για το λόγο αυτό, και η εργασία εντάσσεται στο πλαίσιο της προφορικής ιστορίας, η οποία χρησιμοποιεί ως πρωτογενές υλικό γεγονότα, πληροφορίες και αναμνήσεις όπως παρουσιάζονται από ανθρώπους που έζησαν την συγκεκριμένη περίοδο, συμμετείχαν σε κάποια γεγονότα και επηρεάστηκαν από αυτά ή άτομα που εμπλέκονται έμμεσα καθώς κάποιο κοντινό συγγενικό τους πρόσωπο έζησε σε αυτή την ιστορική περίοδο και πήρε μέρος στα γεγονότα του εμφυλίου πολέμου στην ευρύτερη περιοχή της Φλώρινας.
Η μέθοδος που αξιοποιήθηκε για να πραγματοποιηθεί η παρούσα εργασία ήταν οι συνεντεύξεις. Οι συνεντεύξεις αυτές βασίστηκαν σε ημιδομημένο ερωτηματολόγιο, το οποίο ακολουθούσε κάποιες βασικές γραμμές, αλλά διευρύνονταν ή τροποποιούνταν ανάλογα με τις περιστάσεις και τις καταστάσεις που προέκυπταν σε κάθε συνέντευξη.
Μετά την ολοκλήρωση των συνεντεύξεων προέκυψε ένα πλούσιο και πολυδιάστατο πρωτογενές υλικό και τα συμπεράσματα που προέκυψαν από αυτό είναι αρκετά. Έτσι, μέσα από τις συνεντεύξεις φαίνεται τόσο η χρονική σειρά των γεγονότων, οι τοποθεσίες στις οποίες έλαβαν χώρα σημαντικές μάχες, οι δυσκολίες που προέκυψαν αυτή την περίοδο, τα συναισθήματα

όσων συμμετείχαν και επηρεάστηκαν από αυτά τα γεγονότα όσο και ο τρόπος που τα αντιμετωπίζει κάθε πληροφορητής. Έτσι, φαίνεται, ότι η αντιμετώπιση των γεγονότων και η στάση του κάθε συνεντευξιαζόμενου επηρεάζονται από πολλούς παράγοντες, όπως η ηλικία, το φύλο, η ιδεολογία, το μορφωτικό επίπεδο, το οικογενειακό περιβάλλον, η μετέπειτα πορεία τους, κ.α.

The present study aims at identifying and recording the viewpoints of those in charge of policy decisions, in the Department of Primary Education of Florina, in the very first years of its operation as well as the choices that were made. There is an attempt to investigate their viewpoints on the content of pre-service programmes for student-teachers, the philosophy and the goals of the syllabus of DPEF, the problems raised regarding the running of the department and the organisation of the courses, the prospects that opened up, and the relations between the Department and the local society. Ten members of the Academic staff, who assumed active roles for policy decision during that period, participated in the specific study and both semi-structured interviews with the Academic staff and analysis of the archives of the D.P.E. were used for collecting the data. The results, providing a wealth of information, revealed that the perceptions, the prior knowledge and the mentality of the Academic staff of the Department had an impact on planning and organising the courses and on defining the context of running the Department.

..Ένα ερώτημα που βασανίζει τους ερευνητές είναι κατά πόσο τα θεωρητικά μοντέλα επικοινωνίας μπορούν να έχουν εφαρμογή σε όλα τα κοινωνικά σύνολα και υποσύνολα και πώς εξηγούν τις δομημένες σχέσεις μεταξύ της κοινωνίας και της εξουσίας. Ένα δεύτερο που με βασάνιζε προσωπικά ήταν κατά πόσο η λεγόμενη παγκοσμιοποίηση έχει προχωρήσει τόσο πολύ, ώστε κοινωνίες που ζουν σε ένα κοινό γεωγραφικό χώρο, ανήκουν όμως σε διαφορετικά έθνη, ζουν σε διαφορετικά κράτη με διαφορετικό πολιτικό παρελθόν, μπορούν να έχουν περισσότερα κοινά σημεία από ότι διαφορές, και να αντιδρούν παρόμοια στα ίδια ερεθίσματα,

Η περιοχή που συνορεύει η Ελλάδα με την Αλβανία και τη FYROM κάποτε αποτελούσε ενιαίο γεωγραφικό και πολιτικό χώρο. Όμως από το 1913 κ,ε. χωρίστηκε από τους Βαλκανικούς Πολέμους που δημιούργησαν την πολιτική κατάσταση που ίσχυσε σε γενικές γραμμές μέχρι το 1990. Οι νομοί Καστοριάς, Φλώρινας, Μοναστηρίου (Bitola) και Περλεπέ (Prilep) της FYROM, τα τοπικά μέσα ενημέρωσης και οι κοινωνίες τους τέθηκαν υπό παρακολούθηση.

Το κύριο ζήτημα ήταν η διακρίβωση των σχέσεων μεταξύ των παραγόντων, δηλαδή των φορέων άσκησης της πολιτικής και της εξουσίας, των μέσων ενημέρωσης, των μηνυμάτων που μεταδίδονται και των αντιδράσεων του κοινού. Και μάλιστα κατά πόσο υπάρχει ή βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη μια σύγκλιση των τοπικών κοινωνιών, έτσι ώστε να είναι ορατή στον ορίζοντα μια διάθεση προσέγγισης τους άσχετα από τις πολιτικές που ασκούν τα κράτη. Ή κατά πόσο τα σύνορα ορίζουν ακόμη διαφορετικές κοινωνίες και διαφορετικές συμπεριφορές. Και φυσικά το ρόλο που παίζουν τα μέσα ενημέρωσης προς τη μια ή την άλλη κατεύθυνση...

We review the legal stipulations over exam admissions of Greek Students attending foreign (especially Balkan) Pedagogy Academies to Greek Pedagogy Academies, which reflect the Greek government‟s political predilection to attract back Greek students, lending special interest in the related legislation, as well as the political intent underlying the particular legislation. The admission legislative rule is reviewed against the political environment that favors the authorization of Greek student transfer from abroad. The Florina Pedagogy Academy, among others, has operated as a host institution and is our study case, which delves into the legislation enforcement and regulations of the admission system, highlighting testing and grading procedures, as well as broader deliberations within the academic community having to do with repatriated student placement. The Florina Pedagogy Academy files provide information on entrance candidacies from all foreign universities. At the same time, test subjects at placement and credits granted for courses taken abroad speak both for Florina‟s and foreign universities‟ cultures.

Original data are presented from the identification of bumblebee specimens collected (survey seasons 2005-2007) from Flórina Prefecture, Northwestern region of Macedonia, Greece. This material revealed five species new to the Greek entomofauna: Bombus (Psithyrus) rupestris (FABRICIUS 1793), B. (Ps.) sylvestris (LEPELETIER 1832), B. (Thoracobombus) mlokosievitzii RADOSZKOWSKI 1877, B. (Rhodobombus) armeniacus RADOSZKOWSKI 1877 and B. (Pyrobombus) hypnorum (LINNAEUS 1758). This paper reports on new findings, with full detailed collection data, and thus updates the current record in Greece to a total of 33 Bombus species.

This booklet, writen by I. Th. Anagnostopoulos and published in Athens, Greece by the Ministry of Education and the Benaki Museum is meant primary for elementary school teachers. The booklet is to enable them to prepare school classes for visits to the beekeeping museum of the Florina Cultural Club. A brief historical review of Greek beekeeping is given, and modern migratory beekeeping is described. Four types of skep recorded from the Florina region are described as well as beekeeping tools and equipment. Traditional outdoor honey extracting is also dealt with briefly. Soft cover, 13 pp.

The study utilizes for the first time the unpublished archival material of the schoolof teachers; training in Florina (1926) and Kastoria (1923), examines the integration of their operation to the context of the period and explains the purposes they were invited to perform. Finally uses the texts of the local press of Florina, Kastoria and Thessaloniki as alternative historical sources.

This synthetic work examines the positions of the Greek state and the interest groups, and the effects of the political and diplomatic context towards the identification of the allophones in the Macedonian area and the objectives of their educational training.

This study attempts a comparative approach to education institutions operating two teachers worked in Florina, College of Education (1926-1933) and its successor the Pedagogical Academy (1941-1950) indicating their mutual similarities and differences.

The study is based on the oldest saved local newspaper named “Florina” edited by I. Theodosiou in 1916, through which the situation in the Monastiri area under the German and Boulgarian occupation during the first world war is described and historical elements of a main importance are identified.
