Didactic Applications

This project aimed at understanding the cognitionbuilding
process during the rehabilitation period,
and various stimulus-response functions provided
by different exercises. A major consideration was
also to understand the crossover between various
cognitive and physical rehabilitation programmes.
Exercises were designed to improve the anticipatory
awareness skills of the patients. There are certain
audio-visual elements used in the exercises, which
aim to improve patient spatial awareness skills.
Nintendo Wii-mote is used as the input device for
exercises. This helps the patients integrate their
immediate awareness and motor skills. It was empirically
observed with 8 patients with Traumatic
Brain Injury that when exposed to different sound
loops for more than 5 minute, patients not only start
remembering them but they can also identify the
sound source effectively. This improves their ability
to concentrate on occurrence, thereby increasing
their remembrance. The exercises were designed
to run on a television set with adequate prompting
to facilitate tele-assistive continuing rehabilitation.
The tools give us the scope to understand the role of
a 3D environment-based exercise in rehabilitation.
It also helps us to study the role of anticipatory
awareness in cognition building.

El objetivo de esta investigación ha sido analizar y describir cómo se ha aplicado el lenguaje Soundpainting en tres ámbitos educativos diferentes. Partiendo de la metodología cualitativa se seleccionaron un conservatorio, un centro de educación primaria y una escuela de música como estudio de caso colectivo. Las diferentes sesiones fueron grabadas en vídeo, revisadas y codificadas con la ayuda de programas de análisis cualitativo. Posteriormente se realizó una entrevista semiestructurada a cada uno de los profesores. Los resultados muestran que aplicando el lenguaje Soundpainting desde la perspectiva del juego y haciendo un uso didáctico de los gestos se facilitó el desarrollo de las capacidades musicales y personales en los alumnos de los tres ámbitos educativos observados, tal y como se describe en las conclusiones.

EIGRP is a routing protocol developed by Cisco Systems as an alternative to traditional distance vector and link state routing protocols. It has been widely accepted since it merges important concepts of these two types of routing protocols in a single one. The Diffusing Update Algorithm (DUAL) is used by EIGRP to compute the shortest path by performing local or diffusing computations. This algorithm was first proposed by Dijkstra and Scholten, and offers a great set of advantages that makes it outperform other loop-free routing algorithms. The teaching and learning of DUAL can be very difficult due to the complex finite state machine involved and the lack of documentation for this algorithm. In this paper, we present an alternative approach to teach advanced concepts of DUAL by using Easy-EIGRP, a didactic implementation of EIGRP developed in Java. Easy-EIGRP includes a powerful module, called DUAL module, which implements the algorithm and offers a set of graphic interfaces for debugging and understanding the processes carried out by DUAL.

In this paper we present AdminUCV NGN, a free open source application developed under the GNU General Public License in Java/C++ that ties together several management utilities. Its main goal is to be used as a didactic application in network advanced courses at Universidad Central de Venezuela since it is very flexible, user friendly, and presents many valuable information to users that is normally not easily accessible. Additionally, AdminUCV NGN is a powerful application for network administrators and allows them to collect and modify the configuration of network devices through the use of SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, graph information based on OID values in real-time, scan open ports, capture network traffic, etc. Besides, AdminUCV NGN was developed to support both IPv4 and IPv6, which makes it one of the strongest free open source management applications based on SNMP.

In this paper we present SNMP JManager, a free open source application developed under the GNU General Public License in Java. Its main goal is to be used as a didactic application in network advanced courses at Universidad Central de Venezuela to support the teaching and learning of SNMP v1/2c/3. SNMP JManager is platform independent, easy to use, and has a user-friendly interface. Additionally, SNMP JManager can be a powerful application for network administrators and allows them to collect and modify the configuration of network devices through the use of SNMP v1/2c/3, import MIBs, manage traps, etc. It was developed to support both IPv4 and IPv6, which makes it one of the strongest free open source SNMP managers.
