In this article I argue that theories of fictional film realism are epistemologically and methodologically flawed because they reason in the abstract about empirically investigable phenomena, particularly spectatorship. Este artículo estudia las relaciones de poder establecidas entre la élite salteña y la élite porteña entre 1824 y 1827, representadas por Álvarez de Arenales y Bernardino Rivadavia respectivamente. Analiza las alternativas del proceso político que articulan estas élites rioplatenses desde una perspectiva integral. Identifica la existencia de un acomodamiento de fuerzas y la aplicación de políticas reformistas similares en ambos escenarios y sus posibles fundamentos. Asimismo, subraya que la élite salteña procuró el apoyo del gobierno porteño en pos de obtener beneficios políticos y respaldo financiero ante el peligro del desmembramiento territorial producido por la guerra de independencia. En este marco, examina los intereses puestos en práctica durante el Congreso Nacional Constituyente de 1824-1827 y la problemática que envuelve la cuestión del territorio de Tarija al norte de la provincia salteña.

This article revisits the notion of radical planning from the standpoint of the global South. Emerging struggles for citizenship in the global South, seasoned by the complexities of state-citizen relations within colonial and post-colonial regimes, offer an historicized view indispensable to counter-hegemonic planning practices. The article articulates the notion of insurgent planning as radical planning practices that respond to neoliberal specifics of dominance through inclusion -that is, inclusive governance. It characterizes the guiding principles for insurgent planning practices as counter-hegemonic, transgressive and imaginative. The article contributes to two current conversations within planning scholarship: on the implication of grassroots insurgent citizenship for planning, and on (de)colonization of planning theory.

How do evaluation practitioners make choices when they evaluate a program? What function do evaluation theories play in practice? In this article I report on an exploratory study that examined evaluation practices in France. The research began with observations of practitioners' activities, with a particular focus on the phases of evaluation design. The purpose of the study was to examine the logic underlying their choices and the role that evaluation theory played in those choices. In this study I used activity theory and ergonomics methods. I highlight various ways in which working evaluators make evaluation choices in real situations, explained by different sets of conceptual resources they hold related to their level of experience. Finally, I show how this research contributes toward clarifying the role of theories in practice and enriching an evaluation theory.

This paper examines the effects of three different types of support for Japanese students studying English writing. Students were required to make weekly visits to either the Writing Center or a student tutor or were given cards with simple reminder checklists that they were to review before and after completing each stage of writing an essay (pre-writing, first draft, and final draft). Due to the small sample size, we cannot address how these support structures affected improvement of students' writing; however, we did see an impact on students' awareness of support services. Students generally believed that the help they received was worth the effort. Instructor-mandated visits, to a limited degree, are likely to nudge the students to make the important first visit to the writing center or tutors. It is still not clear why utilization of the Writing Center decreases in the second semester.

Cloud computing has emerged as a new technology that provides large amounts of computing and data storage capacity to its users with a promise of increased scalability, high availability, and reduced administration and maintenance costs. As the use of cloud computing environments increases, it becomes crucial to understand the performance of these environments. So, it is of great importance to assess the performance of computing clouds in terms of various metrics, such as the overhead of acquiring and releasing the virtual computing resources, and other virtualization and network communications overheads. To address these issues, we have designed and implemented C-Meter, which is a portable, extensible, and easy-to-use framework for generating and submitting test workloads to computing clouds. In this paper, first we state the requirements for frameworks to assess the performance of computing clouds. Then, we present the architecture of the C-Meter framework and discuss several cloud resource management alternatives. Finally, we present ourearly experiences with C-Meter in Amazon EC2. We show how C-Meter can be used for assessing the overhead of acquiring and releasing the virtual computing resources, for comparing different configurations, and for evaluating different scheduling algorithms.

Large-scale distributed computing systems such as grids are serving a growing number of scientists. These environments bring about not only the advantages of an economy of scale, but also the challenges of resource and workload heterogeneity. A consequence of these two forms of heterogeneity is that job runtimes and queue wait times are highly variable, which generally reduces system performance and makes grids difficult to use by the common scientist. Predicting job runtimes and queue wait times have been widely studied for parallel environments. However, there is no detailed investigation on how the proposed prediction methods perform in grids, whose resource structure and workload characteristics are very different from those in parallel systems. In this paper, we assess the performance and benefit of predicting job runtimes and queue wait times in grids based on traces gathered from various research and production grid environments. First, we evaluate the performance of simple yet widely used time series prediction methods and the effect of applying them to different types of job classes (e.g., all jobs submitted by single users or to single sites). Then, we investigate the performance of two kinds of queue wait time prediction methods for grids. Last, we investigate whether prediction-based grid-level scheduling policies can have better performance than policies that do not use predictions.

An assemblage of eleven species of Early Eocene marine intertidal and sublittoral ostracods has been found in the Crescent Formation in the Black Hills, Thurston County, Washington State, USA. The ostracods are subtropical and tropical taxa, such as Bairdoppilata, Cytherella and Neomonoceratina, which are found south of Washington today. Based on the geological age of the formation, the fauna corresponded to the Early Eocene Climatic Optimum. Five new species are recognized: Acanthocythereis olympiana sp. nov., Ambostracon irizukii sp. nov., Bairdoppilata crescentana sp. nov., Coquimba washingtonensis sp. nov. and Cytherelloidea squiresi sp. nov. This new assemblage from the Crescent Formation is the northernmost record of Early Eocene ostracods for the entire Pacific Basin.

Resumen:
En la presente contribución se exponen diferentes hallazgos procedentes del poblado de silos calcolítico de Camino de las Yeseras, por tratarse de depó- sitos ubicados en lugares estratégicos y vinculados a diferentes contextos como son los depósitos aislados y aquellos pertenecientes al mundo funerario.
Asimismo, se valoran diferentes parámetros arqueozoológicos como son la  complexión, talla, sexo y edad de los individuos inhumados. La intención es crear una base de datos que nos  permita acercarnos a las características morfológicas que presentan los canes en relación con otros yacimientos sincrónicos, y el rol social que se puede inferir a partir de estos depósitos intencionados.

Abstract:
Different findings coming out from the pits chalcolithic site of El Camino de las Yeseras are exposed in the present contribution. Several deposits localizated in strategic places to different contexts, as well as isolate deposits and other ones
belonging to the funerary world.
Also different archaeozoological parameters as they are the constituition, height, sex and age of the buried individuals are valued, to create a data base that allows to approach us to the morphological characteristics that the dogs in relation to other synchronous deposits presents, and the social roll that can be deduced from these deliberate deposits.
