Glitter Heart Shaker Cards

I have to admit glitter is not my favorite craft supply to work with, but sometimes it is worth the potential mess. I have been wanting to make some glitter shaker cards and Valentine's Day seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it a try. I have had this project ready to share for a couple of weeks and now that it is actually Valentine's Day I am finally getting around to sharing it. Better late than never I guess.

I used my Cricut to cut out all of the pieces for my cards, except the actual cards. You could totally cut the cards too, but I chose to cut out one step by just using plain, blank white cards that I bought.

I used Valentine themed paper to decorate the card and make the hearts, as well as a little bit of craft foam (to create space for the glitter), and acetate (to make the clear window for the shaker). Well, and the glitter of course.

With a few simple layers you can make a super fun, sparkly shaker card that is great for Valentine's Day, but lots of other occasions as well. Or use the same technique but change up the shape to make cards for different holidays.

How to Make a Glitter Heart Shaker Card

You will need:

Instructions:

To make this card I used 5 layers of paper/other materials (6 if you count the card), although you could do fewer if you don't use the background colors.

Cut the pieces out as follows :

Rectangle- the color/pattern paper you want the front of the card
Solid Heart- the color/pattern paper you want the background of the heart
Heart Outline- craft foam (this will require switching to the deep point or knife blade)
Solid Heart- clear acetate
Heart Outline- the color/pattern paper you want the border of the heart to be

Once you have all of your pieces cut assemble as follows:

Glue the rectangle to the front of your card

Glue the paper heart shape to the center of the card

Glue the craft foam heart outline on top of the paper heart, be sure to glue securely all the way around so no glitter can escape.

Pour some glitter inside of the foam heart outline

Glue the acetate heart on top of the foam outline. Again you want to make sure to glue all the way around securely so that no glitter will fall out.

Glue the paper heart outline on top of the acetate, covering the foam outline from view and finishing the card.
