Today I am interrupting the Christmas crafting to pop in with a Thanksgiving project. It is always kind of weird as a crafter because I want to get a head start on upcoming holidays to make sure I have the projects done before the season/holiday they are for, but also thinking about the current season/holiday and coming up with ideas for that.
That especially seems to be the case with Christmas and Thanksgiving. I have been working on Christmas crafts for a while, prepping stuff to share over the next few weeks, especially with posting a new Christmas crochet pattern every day with my Mini Amigurumi Advent this month. But I still love Thanksgiving and want to throw some Thanksgiving crafts in the mix.
For this project I started with a plain wooden pumpkin, added a little paint, and some vinyl, and turned it into a Thanksgiving decoration. It was super quick and simple to make, which is always nice, and it turned out exactly like I had pictured.
How to Make a Give Thanks Pumpkin
You will need:
- unfinished wooden pumpkin
- Cricut
- cream adhesive vinyl
- transfer tape
- brown craft paint
- wet wipes or paintbrush
Instructions:
I found my pumpkin at Target, but as it was part of their halloween decor it may not be very easy to find (although if you do find one it may be even cheaper), however I have seen similar pumpkin shapes at craft stores or online. Just be sure to measure your pumpkin before cutting the vinyl to be sure it will fit.
Paint the pumpkin to prepare for vinyl. To give it a stained look I used wet wipes to wipe the paint on (and off) the wood. This puts a very thin layer and gives it the look of stained wood with acrylic craft paint. Set the pumpkin aside to dry.
Open the Give Thanks Pumpkin Design Space file.
Resize as needed to fit your pumpkin shape.
Cut out of vinyl.
Weed the cut design.
Use transfer tape to place the design on the pumpkin.
