One way of building students’ skills to meet the related industry’s demands is by adopting project based learning (PBL) in teaching. There have been several studies on the topic of PBL in translation courses, but none of them have provided a step-by-step classroom procedure. Methodology: The study was a case study to describe the model of project-based learning adopted in the English Department of one Polytechnic in Java island, Indonesia. The object of the study was the Localization and Transcreation class. The data sources included the teacher and 24 sixth-semester students taking the class. Questionnaires and interview were used for the data collection. The questionnaires were used to know the students’ perceived competences. The interview was used to get more information on how the PBL was conducted and students’ furthe...

The research aims to enhance students' grammatical awareness and accuracy through a deductive instructional strategy, using translation practices and focusing on conscious rule-based learning. Adopting an educational design research framework, the study combines theory-driven design principles with empirical research to develop and evaluate a deductive consciousness raising intervention. The research methodology involves the implementation of instructional intervention to a group of students and the collection of qualitative and quantitative data to assess its impact on students' grammatical competence and their perceptions of the learning experience. Using t-test statistical calculation, it was found that the intervention improved the students' grammar mastery but not the response speed. The questionnaire result showed that students reacted positively to the intervention and their motivation increased. Findings from the study support the previous research which found that conscious raising is effective to improve students' learning mastery. This also provides insights that integrating deductive approaches into consciousness raising activities work for grammar teaching if the grammar items are selected appropriately. This also shows that the result of conscious knowledge is not converted automatically into subconscious knowledge. It may need time to practice again and again to make it automatic. As this research is an educational design research, the hypothesis about the efficacy of this designed procedure is suggested to be proved in experimental research. More research to uncover the acquirability and learnability of English grammar features are also recommended to be studies further.

This shift also made teachers and students gradually accustomed to independent learning. Several mobile applications have been developed for foreign language learning. However, only few Android applications were developed for non-linguistic courses offered by foreign language departments at the university level. The effectiveness of such an application to improve students' learning in universities, therefore, has not been conducted. This article reports the finding of a quasi-experimental research on the effect of using an Android application tailored for Research Method for Applied Linguistics students at an English department on their mastery of the course. The research data were collected through tests and a documentary study and calculated using ANCOVA statistical calculation. With the course mastery as the dependent variable, the use of Android application as the independent variable, and reading skills as covariates, the research revealed that the use of Android Learning Application significantly improves the EFL students' mastery of Research Methods for Applied Linguistics course. Further researchers are suggested to study the effect of the use of Android learning application on EFL students' mastery of a non-language course with significantly different students' levels of reading skills.

According to research, integrating 'gamification' based software like Kahoot! into language, schools can affect and improve language learning results and can be utilized as effective teaching and assessment tools. This study examines the language learning experiences of eleven junior high school students in an international class that used Kahoot! in their English classes, focusing on skimming and scanning. According to the findings of the study, almost all of the students reported favorable outcomes when Kahoot! was used in their courses. The majority of students said that using Kahoot! in their English classes helped them improve their skimming and scanning skills. In general, it was discovered that using the skimming and scanning reading techniques, Kahoot! enabled students to have a better understanding of the content.

Similarly, none has investigated the relation between project based learning or situated learning with employability skills. This study attempted to fill a part of this gap by examining the effect of project-based situated learning on trainees’ perceived employability skills in a formal training setting. Using 34 students of English Department of Polinema as the subject, this one-group pretest-postest quasi experimental design used a set of questionnaires to assess their perceived employability skills before and after the treatment. Calculated using t-test, the findings showed that project-based situated learning improved their perceived employability skills. Further analysis also shows that knowledge breath and technical skills improved the most. Together with global mind set, professionalism, creativity and innovation, adaptability and emotional intelligence, the skills constitute six highly improved skills as perceived by the students. The six least improved skills are learning orientation, communication, intrinsic motivation, extra effort, teamwork, and ethics/integrity. The adequately improved ones are creativity and innovation, goal setting, initiative, self-awareness, change management, leadership skills, and influence. As employability skills are skills expected by industry, this improvement is expected to contribute to the employability level of the students when they graduate later.

Unsolved issues in translator education programs include producing students with well-rounded translators who possess both translation (hard skills) and skilled translator competence (soft skills). The majority of universities that offer translator training programs place a strong emphasis on translation skills. To evaluate results, this study used a case study with a qualitative approach. This study, which took place in Malang, Indonesia, included four universities, 12 lecturers, and 80 students as participants. Observation, interviews, and paper reviews were used to gather information. The key data analysis approach was content analysis. The findings indicate that translation competence is primarily acquired by linguistics knowledge. However, in practice, translation hard skills and soft skills must be refined in a social setting where the environment and social context are the most competent. Eco-translation satisfies the requirements in this way. Eco-translation has been shown to meet the needs of course design and teaching methods in translation for teaching.

The focus of Genre-based approach is to show students how meaning can be constructed with language and train them to make use of language to fulfill their needs. This approach proceeds through 4 steps: preparation, modelng, joint construction, independent construction, plus one additional step, publishing. Reciprocal teaching approach (RT) is used because it can incorporate speaking activities. The texts are selected based on the genre that will be used in the work sites, namely in the office setting. This article presents how to apply reciprocal teaching and genre-based approach to teach Business English at non-English Department of university level. This proposed strategy has been tried out at Business Administration Department of State Polytechnic...

As a part of the Web 2.0 movement, Prezi lets users generate, produce, and preserve virtual demonstrations. While a substantial study has been conducted on the benefits and downsides of utilizing Prezi presentations, there is scarce research on students' experiences with using Prezi. The study aims to look at pupils' perspectives on using Prezi in learning English to fill the gap. Twenty students from a private secondary school in Mojokerto, Indonesia, were examined. This exploratory qualitative case study used a purposive sampling strategy. They answered ten interview questions, which the researchers examined using content analysis. The findings revealed that students' experiences using Prezi and making Prezi demonstrations could be divided into four primary topics: serviceability, effectiveness, design, and hindrances. Using Prezi, students experienced producing more interactive visuals for...
