One-Flower Wednesday and 200th Post Giveaway

All sorts of things going on:

First of all, it's “One Flower Wednesday,” that day when Karen from Journey of a Quilter  provides a linky for all of to share our hexagon flowers.  I managed to get one done.  This goal of making at least one flower a week really adds to my garden each week.  That's a good thing since it seems like I'm actually working on two hexie quilts, my landscape with my little ranch house in it and another with scrappy flowers.  Here's a flower for one of them:

Then, yay!  My sister who blogs at  "My Sister Made Me Do It" is back from her vacation visiting her sons in North Texas.  I missed her and glad she's back home although I'm glad she was able to spend time with her sons and their families.  She came by my house on her way home bearing goodies.  Just look at these beautiful fat quarters and these too cute sewing ladies.  Thanks, Ida.  Glad you're back and not just because of the goodies.

200th Post Giveaway! I’m almost there as this will be post #198.  I have a new sponsor, "Connecting Threads."

Hands 2 Help 2012 Quilts Complete

I have finished my quilts for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge 2012.  
I made this one for The NOLA Project.  Quilts will be distributed to grade-school children in St. Bernard Parish in New Orleans.  St.Bernard Parish was hit incredibly hard by Hurricane Katrina The children that remain there have suffered through family changes as spouses split up over the decision to move or remain in the parish, and mothers tend to suffer from depression which affects the children deeply. This quilt goes off to Sarah of "Confessions of a Fabric Addict"  to be distributed with the other H2H quilts in the fall by her church group, which has made several mission trips there since the disaster.

The second quilt is for an ongoing project of Emily of Em's Scrapbag. This group provides quilts and comfort for chemo patients.

My Jane K-3, K-12, and My CW Legacies

Well, I entered a gazillion giveaways in Sew Mama Sew’s Giveaway Days and did not win anything so I may as well sew.  That’s exactly what I’ve been doing.  Jeannie from "The Learning Curve" organized a “Civil War Quilt” quilt-along.  She's done a terrific job organizing us and collecting free materials for us.  She was able to get a copy of the book " Civil War Legacies" by Carol Hopkins for each of the 12 people participating in exchange for us doing a review of the book.

CIVIL WAR LEGACIES

Each of us is making a block from a different quilt.  These blocks will be put together and made into one quilt called the "Gratitude Quilt" and then sent to the generous person who donated the books to us.  This is my Gratitude Block:

A couple more “My Jane” blocks completed.  K-3 looks kind of crooked in the photo.  I freaked out and checked my block and it is NOT crooked.  The crazy photographer (me) messed the photo up some how.

One-Flower Wednesday and My Jane J-6 and J-7

Encouraging words of the day:

In life, we all have to deal with the unexpected. Just because we’re believers or just because we’re good people or doing the right thing doesn’t make us exempt from trouble. When something unexpected happens or you find yourself facing a crisis, don’t automatically go into “panic mode” or just fall apart emotionally. Realize that the crisis is no surprise to God. It may be unexpected to you, but God knows the end from the beginning. He has solutions to problems that you haven’t even had yet. He has equipped you for every battle, and He goes before you to make your crooked places straight!

We’ve been back in El Paso for a week now.  I’ve been busy and have not blogged since last Wednesday.  Yes, today is “One Flower Wednesday.”  Karen provides a linky for all of to share our hexagon flowers and I usually manage to get at least one flower done.  Here are two scrappy flowers:

And I’m trying to keep up with “My Jane.”  Here is J-6.  I didn’t make a good choice on the colors, too much white so the design seems to get lost.

And here is J-7.  I did pretty well on this one except for the top part.  As “they” say, these little (or big) errors add character to the quilt.  “My Jane” is full of character.

 Then I’ve been working on my Civil War Legacies Quilt.

A group of us was sent 12 books of "Civil War Legacies" by Carol Hopkins and we are  doing reviews. There are actually 15 patterns in the book.  My quilt is called “Scarlet, Tomorrow.”  It fits me since I am still trying to get my block done, maybe by tomorrow or Friday when I’ll post what I’ve done.
