At the end of the course, the students should be able
to:

 discuss the relevance of having an in-depth understanding of reading visual


arts as a student and as a future professional;
 explain the basic terms involved in reading visual arts; and
 identify the importance and purpose of visual arts in real-life situations.

 Artistic expression – for self-expression; arts can convey emotions,
experiences, and ideas.
Ex. photography, performing arts, painting
 Narrative purposes – used to tell a story; to illustrate and describe
experiences and communicate ideas.
Ex. The painting, The Expulsion of Heliodorus form the Temple
 Functional visual arts – to beautify things that can be used in everyday life

Ex. tables, chairs, lamps, lights, crafted furniture

 Persuasive arts – to promote philosophies, products, ideas, ideologies,


goals and designs
Ex. advertising material, propaganda, marketing products
 Conveyance of beauty – represents beauty for its own sake

Ex. any art that represents beauty for its own sake
Why do we need to study Art?

 To develop self-exploration and self-expression


 To understand varied cultures
 To develop strong analytical abilities
 To develop better interpersonal and intrapersonal skills
 To enhance communication skills
 To develop higher-order skills
 To help in conceptualizing, problem-solving, and critical thinking
 To develop self-discipline
 To adapt and be creative

UNIT SUMMARY:
Visual arts benefits the emotional well-being and academic progress
of an individual. It creates a deep sense of satisfaction. Art helps
with self-expression, enhances creativity, and develops critical
thinking skills, discipline, communication skills, and analytical skills.
It creates creativity and helps in understanding varied cultures. It
helps in conceptualizing and developing language. Because it
evokes emotions, it is vital to human development.
