    Primus solution
    emc262839 - Symmetrix VMAX: Configuration change script does not display a red
    box if it finds the director to be converted to RDF is in an ACLX port group.

    Symaccess validate reports inconsistency after BIN change for converting FA to RF or SE


    to RE.

    Error msg:
    Dir:port RF-8H:0 in PG 'rnuns011_08h0' is not a valid FA or SE board
    Dir:port RF-9H:0 in PG 'rnuns011_09h0' is not a valid FA or SE board

    This problem is due to an issue with SymmWin. SymmWin uses syscall 9261_04 to retrieve
    the list of directors in a port group. The change script should display a red box if it finds the
    director to be converted is in a port group. Syscall 9261_04_00 is expected to return error
    x15 when it cannot finish its process for the requested range. This implementation takes
    error x15 into account and the code uses the "next_rec" value, except that it is always zero.
    It appears the syscall layer does not bother to return any prefix blob in case of an
    unexpected error. x15 is an unexpected error for the syscall layer.

    SymmWin Fix 20010750, released in Enginuity 5875.198.148 and 5874.259.201, resolves


    this issue.

    Primus solution
    emc268755 - "Symmetrix DMX-3, DMX-4, and VMAX: A53C errors and poor
    performance after an SRDF create pair operation.

    An Enginuity issue was previously identified in solution emc261987 , which concerns a


    problem that occurs after an SRDF Create Pair. However, that issue is specific to a problem
    with the skew value. It was not being set for devices correctly on front-end directors in their
    local NVD. The devices are set in Adaptive Copy Disk mode and are aslo ready on the link.

    Another Enginuity issue has been identified in specific environments as a result of


    encountering the issue described in emc261987. In this case, the customer has FiICON (EF)
    directors and was using page data set for them. The WPs never destaged when the skew
    issue occurred.

    Normally, the microcode will detect the situation of a halted chain on a page data set device
    and set the device into Adaptive Copy WP mode. However, the devices are already in an
    Adaptive Copy state in conjunction with the the skew issue (acting as if the device is in
    J0/Sync mode). This means the microcode cannot change anything to rectify the page data
    set volumes. The WPs will not destage and new updates will accumulate to the point where
    the system Max WP limit is reached, which can lead to performance issues or host crashes.

    Field Service: A Product Support Engineer must dial in to the Symmetrix to perform
    restricted commands.

    Primus solution
    emc274078 - Symmetrix VMAX Series: DDS.log file is not generated and System does
    not dial home when Spare Pool for one drive type is exhausted in Enginuity 5874.

    Permanent sparing does not create a DDS.log if the spares coverage for a disk drive
    covered by one spare pool reaches 0 while another size spare pool is ready.
    There will be a call home only when the next disk of that size has a problem and the code
    cannot find a spare for it.

    According to Engineering, this problem was introduced with Fix 20009132 released in
    5874.248.198.

    Field Service: OPT 372938 was opened and Symmwin fix 20011236 resolves this issue.
    Contact the EMC Customer Support Center for assistance and quote this solution ID.
    Note: When you encounter this issue, check the spare pool status (refer to emc271942) and
    replace any not ready spares. The same needs to be done after applying the fix.

    • Provide Upgrade Testing for Customers who have encountered numerous issues during previous events ('Get Well'
    program)

    Processor Utility (SymmUtil.exe). The Symmetrix Utility (SymmUtil.exe) is a maintenance tool designed
    to aid in the replacement and setup of Symmetrix DMX-3, DMX-3 950, DMX-4, and DMX-4 950 Service
    Processors. Refer to Symmetrix Service Processor Utility, SYM-CSP-057 for more information about
    this utility. Download the SymmUtil.exe version 2.08.00 (05/10/2010).

    Epack Database Update
    A New Search Utility has been added to the Epack Database for all Field Users.
    This enables the users to search for existing Epack Requests that you may need to access but
    do not know the request ID

    How to Run the Search Utility


    1. When you open the Epack Database the new option is listed in the left hand column
    “Search Requests”
    2. This will open an new window where you can enter in your search criteria. You can search
    by Site Number, Customer Name, Service Request ID , Epack Activity Id, by the local
    contact

    3. This will return the search list. Here you can enter in each of the Requests listed by
    clicking on the number in the Request ID column.
