THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Through the amazing generosity of our parish family, including parishioners, the children of our Religious Education Program and the Academy, we may be able to change the life direction of at least one destitute family in Haiti. Through our Lenten Operation Starfish Project, we have collected an awesome total of:

$4, 150.00
Working through Food for the Poor, this amount is enough to sponsor not just a home with a latrine, but provide everything for a family with nothing! In addition to their new home, our sponsored family will receive rice and beans for one full year, a small business project to help provide a source of income, school supplies for two children (including books and uniforms), clothing and shoes. The amount donated also enables us to provide two water pumps, and school supplies for one child. We will publish the photo of our sponsored family standing in front of their new home in a few months once the house is built and we receive the photo from Food for the Poor. May God bless everyone who participated in our parish-wide Lenten Project.

A big Thank

You from ...

Last week, nine members of our High School Youth Ministry had the opportunity to participate in Habitat for Humanity in Pendleton County, West Virginia. Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by the couple that ran the Almost Heaven volunteer center. Throughout the week, we met several current and prospective owners of habitat homes. These individuals and families shared their stories and welcomed us as one of their own. Their stories were touching and gave everyone a different perspective on life. One woman in particular, Sandra, had the most memorable story of all. We were all touched by how willing she was to talk about it. We discovered that she turned her life around because of her grandson and the fact that she could potentially never see him because of some choices she had made. In addition to meeting such kind people in West Virginia, we became friends with the other volunteer groups there. Fortunately, all of us were high school students from the tri-state area. We made some great friends and shared experiences that we will remember for the rest of our lives.

We are all truly grateful for this experience, and would like to thank the parish for your

generosity in helping fund the trip! It was something that changed our lives and helped everyone realize that we cannot take everything we have for granted.

Sincerely, The Mission Trip Planning Team Adrienne Cirrotti,

OLP Adult Education Summer Series:

Father Robert Barrons Catholicism 8/20 - 8/24 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. - Parish Hall Preview
Lecture 1: Amazed and Afraid: The Revelation of God Become Man (Mon.) Theres an either/or regarding Jesus. Either he is who he says he is, or hes a bad man. Hes a sort of dangerous, strange figure . . . the only religious figure who compels a choice. Fr. Barron Lecture 2: Happy are We: The Teachings of Jesus (Mon.) The Christian faith centers around who Jesus is and not what he says. The great creeds never mention the words of Jesus, but they are desperately interested in articulating his identity. [But], the teachings of Jesus are [not] a matter of indifference to Christians. Once they understood that Jesus is Yahweh moving among his people, the first Christians were keenly interested in remembering and propagating Jesus words and teachings. Wherever they have been heard, the words of Jesus have proved fascinating, disorienting, sometimes confounding, deeply transformative and always unforgettable. Fr. Barron. Lecture 3: The Ineffable Mystery of God: That Than which Nothing Greater can be Thought (Tues.) Most every atheist Ive ever spoken to does not understand what we mean by God. So what an atheist is denying, I would deny, too. Most atheists deny that there is a supreme being who is an item in the world or above the world. I would deny that too. Or that God is, at best, some kind of distant object who maybe wound things up and then went into retirement. I would deny that too, so I would tend to agree with the atheists. . . Fr. Barron Lecture 4: Our Tainted Natures Solitary Boast: Mary the Mother of God (Tues.) After Jesus, she is the most depicted figure in the history of Christian art. This woman has beguiled the imaginations of our most gifted poets. To this woman, millions come bearing the burdens of their hearts, for they believe her to be their mother. Fr. Barron Lecture 5: The Indispensable Men: Peter, Paul, and the Missionary Adventure (Wed.) I often wonder if anybody thought that those little scrolls [epistles] being sent through the [ancient] Roman postal system were going to change the world! Fr. Barron Lecture 6: A Body both Suffering and Glorious: The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church (Wed.) We are not meant to stay hunkered down behind the walls of the Church; rather we go out from the Church to transform the world. Fr. Barron Lecture 7: Word Made Flesh, True Bread of Heaven: The Mystery of the Liturgy and the Eucharist (Thur.) British historian Christopher Dawsons mothers response when he said he was converting from Anglicanism to Catholicism, Its not the doctrine that concerns me. Its that now you will be worshipping with the help. Fr. Barron Lecture 8: A Vast Company of Witnesses: The Communion of Saints (Thur.) Weve all been designed to be a saint; sainthood is a matter of will. A saint is someone who allows Jesus to get into her boat and invade her life with his grace. Fr. Barron Lecture 9: The Fire of His Love: Prayer and the Life of the Spirit (Fri.) Prayers are a good way to get to prayer; to calm down what the Buddhists call the monkey mind. Fr. Barron Lecture 10: World without End: The Last Things (Fri.) Its been said that the best way to prepare ourselves for the life to come is to cultivate our capacity for surprise. Fr. Barron
