APRIL 29, 2012 FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Is God Calling YOU? Answer the Call. Diocese of Joliet Vocation Office

World Day of Prayer for Vocations Sunday, April 29, 2012

The theme of Benedict XVI's reflections this year is: "Vocations, the Gift of the Love of God". In his message for the 49th World Day of Prayer for Vocations, our Holy Father says: The source of every perfect gift is God who is Love Deus caritas est: 'Whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him'. The love of God is everlasting; He is faithful to Himself. ... Yet the appealing beauty of this divine love, which precedes and accompanies us, needs to be proclaimed ever anew, especially to younger generations. It is to the perfection of the Fathers love that Jesus Christ calls us every day! The high standard of the Christian life consists in loving 'as' God loves; with a love that is shown in the total, faithful and fruitful gift of self.

Dear brother bishops, dear priests, deacons, consecrated men and women, catechists, pastoral workers and all of you who are engaged in the field of educating young people: I fervently exhort you to pay close attention to those members of parish communities, associations and ecclesial movements who sense a call to the priesthood or to a special consecration. The task of fostering vocations will be to provide helpful guidance and direction along the way. Central to this should be love of Gods word nourished by a growing familiarity with Sacred Scripture, and attentive and unceasing prayer, both personal and in community; this will make it possible to hear Gods call amid all the voices of daily life. But above all, the Eucharist should be the heart of every vocational journey: it is here that the love of God touches us in Christs sacrifice. ... Scripture, prayer and the Eucharist are the precious treasure enabling us to grasp the beauty of a life spent fully in service of the Kingdom. Fr. Burke Masters, vocation director of the Diocese of Joliet, suggests that Every vocational call comes from Gods love for us. When we encounter Gods love in a powerful way it requires a response from us. How am I going to spend my life serving and loving God and my neighbor? What are the gifts and talents that God has given me? Please join the whole Church today and every day in praying for holy vocations. We are all called to be holy. We are all called to love God and our neighbor. What is my particular response?

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.

Pope Benedict celebrates 85th birthday, reflects on last years

VATICAN CITY, April 16 (CNA/EWTN News) .- Pope Benedict XVI marked his 85th birthday by reflecting on his final years as he celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving in the Vaticans Pauline Chapel. I find myself on the last stretch of my journey in life, and I dont know what is awaiting me, said the Pope in his homily. I know, however, that the light of God exists, that he is risen, that his light is stronger than any darkness, that Gods goodness is stronger than any evil in this world. And this helps me go forward with confidence. Pope Benedict was born and christened Joseph Alois Ratzinger on Holy Saturday, April 16 1927. At the Mass, he thanked his parents for giving him the gift of life and baptism on the same day.

Are you outgoing? Always smiling? Do you have a welcoming character? We are in need of additional Greeters and Ushers for our liturgical celebrations at Christ the King.
The Hospitality Ministry, in particular, ushers and greeters, is one of the most critical ministries at our parish. Greeters and Ushers are the first people you see when you enter the church. They are there to extend a warm welcome and to make it easy and comfortable to find a seat. They are also critical for safety, service and helpful information. The only thing you need to be an usher is a willingness to serve others and not be afraid to say hi to people. Job Description in Short: Must be able to come 20 minutes before Mass Be willing to serve people! Be the smiling face everyone sees entering and exiting our church If you are interested in this area of ministry, please contact Eileen Maggiore for a volunteer interview at 630.396.6076, or email at [email protected].

Meditation Plaza Monument

Someone noticed, and reported to the Administration Commission and staff, the week of April 15th, that the monument in our meditation plaza had been vandalized with graffiti. Members of the staff and administration commission have notified the Lombard police. Due to the nature of our campus, and its location relative to schools, residences, and through streets, it cannot be determined who committed the act defacing our memorial to loved ones, or when. The monument has been repaired. Everyone is reminded that, unfortunately, like everywhere else in our lives, we need to be mindful and observant at all times- even at church. And that if you see something, say something applies, even here. If you do not who to tell, you can call our facilities manager, Javier Aguilera at 708-516-8795; or the Lombard police department at 911 (emergency), or 873-4400 (nonemergency).
