Fr. Larry
Welcome Alicja We welcome Alicja Szczepanik, who will serve as our new part-time Parish Unity Coordinator. (She replaces Maggie Starzec, who was able to attain a fulltime position of employment outside of our parish.) Alicja's main responsibility will be to help foster the communication within our bilingual parish by her ability to translate and share information from one language into another. She brings to her position experience in teaching Polish and English, and strong organizational skills. She is very enthusiastic and excited about helping to foster the various relationships within our parish. She will be a great support and resource to our Pastoral Staff and to those who minister in our parish. Welcome Alicja. Looking for Some Movers and Shakers As I mentioned in my bulletin column last weekend, all of our Masses, devotions and services will be moved into the gym for the summer months due to the construction and painting that will soon occur in our church. Starting June 4th, and going to the first week in August, the gym will be our main place of worship. In the long run, this will save us time and money. As we prepare to make the transition across the street, we are in need of adult volunteers who can help move various liturgical items and supplies to the gym, like vestments, books, chalices, candles, wine, hosts, tables and chairs. There wont be anything too heavy to carry. The date for the move is Monday, June 4th at 7:00 PM. If we get a lot of helping hands, we should be done in an hour. Please call the rectory to let us know if you can help. Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated. Again, our staff is looking at many details to make the Fr. Gilewski Center a reverent place to worship for the short time that we will be praying there in that space. Why Don't You Come Over? About every other month, Fr. Marcin and I host a "Unity Dinner" at the rectory for about eight to ten parishioners. It is a simple way for us to get to know people that we often see at church, but never have the
time to fully get to know. Also it is a great opportunity for parishioners to get to know other parishioners that they see in church. There is only one requirement to attend the dinner. All you have to do is come to dinner and be willing to enjoy the fellowship of other parishioners. You don't have to cook. You don't have to serve the meal or clean the dishes. All you have to do is come and have a nice time. The next Unity Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, June 10th at 7:00 PM. Please make a reservation by calling the rectory office. Call soon. The table fills up quickly. Hes Home! Fr. Marcin flew to Poland on Thursday to visit his parents. I could tell that he was very excited this year to celebrate Mother's Day with his mom, which is celebrated in Poland on May 26th. Fr. Marcin has not been able to be with her on Mothers Day for the past nine years. I am sure his folks are glad to have their son home for some quality time. He will probably catch up on his sleep, if his parents let him. Seeing Nothing But Red Next Sunday is one of the greatest days on the Church calendar. We celebrate the feast of Pentecost, which marks 50 days after Easter, as well as the birthday of the Church. It is the culmination of the Easter season. We pray that the Lord will continue to pour out upon His church the gifts of the Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit that will guide us to all truth and strengthen us to bear witness to Jesus' gifts of peace and reconciliation. Dress in red next weekend when you come to church! Red is the traditional liturgical color associated with Pentecost and the Holy Spirit. Imagine a field of red, just like the United Center when the Bulls are playing at home, filling the space of our church. It would be a great reminder of the fire of the Holy Spirit, alive and present in the midst of our faith community. For What its Worth I saw a sign in front of a church the other day when I was driving. The message got my attention and made me think. It read, "Give to God what is right, not what is left." Its an interesting perspective.

May, 2012 Dear Parishioners, For more than 125 years SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish School has been a vital ministry for our parish. Many talented individuals have shared their talents teaching our young people to live and carry on the faith while also providing them with an outstanding education. The students who graduate from our school are well prepared and experience success in the various high schools they choose to attend. Parent organizations have worked hard to raise the funds needed to help our budget and provide our students with the different tools necessary for successful learning. Parents have also graciously volunteered countless hours to help provide activities for the students to enjoy outside the academic pursuits of the classroom. The parish has been extremely supportive both financially and spiritually. SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish School is indeed a wonderful asset for the entire community. To help insure the continued success of our school, we decided last year to transition from an Advisory School Board into a Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ). This type of Board acts in the specified areas of Development, Marketing/Recruitment, Planning and Fiscal Oversight. Membership is diverse, selected for specific skill sets, from the parish, alumni, parents of current and former students, and the business community to staff various committees. It is established consistent with the policies, procedures, guidelines, regulations, and best practices promulgated by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools. Our goal was for the BSJ structure to be in place at the beginning of this current school year. We are proud to say this goal was successfully achieved. The Executive Committee, chaired by Randy Zezulka, has laid the groundwork in the development of several subcommittees which are working to address different identified needs within the school. But as we reach the end of the year it means the time has come for some of our members to step down. We thank them for their help and commitment to our school through their dedication to the Board. Membership on the BSJ is not determined through an election; rather, an individual is appointed by the pastor, in collaboration with a selection committee, for a specified term based on a certain skill set and expertise. Any parishioners interested in the continued success of our school are invited to consider becoming a member of the BSJ. If you are interested in joining, please fill out the form found at the bottom of this letter. A current member will contact you with more information. The continued success of our school is a goal we are committed to achieve. Sincerely,
I am interested in helping SS. Cyril & Methodius School by becoming a member of the Board of Specified Jurisdiction. Please contact me with more information. Return the bottom portion to the school office or rectory by May 31st, 2012.
