And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you, You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Have a Blessed Christmas Season!

There is a deep longing in the human heart for enduring love and, because God is Love this deep desire is really a longing for God. Indeed, God alone can fulfill this yearning, for He created within us this innermost longing for Him. On that first Christmas night, in response to Gods announcement through the angel that the Savior had come, the shepherds said to one another, Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place which the Lord has made known to us. Like those first shepherds, we too have come to see, to find, the Infant Savior. Notice how He appears to us: so small, indeed, an infant. Why did God choose to have His son come to us in that sign? Our Holy Father explains, Gods sign [to us] is that he makes himself small; he becomes a child; he lets us touch him and he asks for our love. But in the Divine Plan, God wills that He is and that He gives us be passed on to our brothers and sisters. Just as He revealed His love to us in the sign of a small infant in the manger and continually reveals that love under the signs of bread and wine in the Eucharist, so do we proclaim, witness to and act as the instruments of His love in small ways: with a kind gesture, with some small help, with forgiveness. How loved each one of us is! In Jesus Christ, Our Savior and Lord, God is with us today, tomorrow and all days! So, we pray once again: O Come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel. It is our hope and prayer that in this past advent season our staff provided spiritual and community building opportunities for you. Now that we together begin the Christmas season on this feast of Christmas, we are grateful for our families, friends and visitors who have joined us for Eucharist. Thank you for the many ways in 2011 you have walked with the staff, parish leadership and clergy. We look forward to 2012 as another year of serving, walking with and praying for the parishioners we are privileged to serve. A Blessed Christmas to all and to all a happy, healthy new year. In Christ our King, Parish Staff and Clergy
STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
In todays Christmas Mass at dawn we hear from the Gospel reading that God has entered quietly into the world. Not into the great city of Jerusalem, but into a small village about five miles south. Not into a noble family, but to an outcast couple keeping the newborn in a manger. Not announced by royal edicts, but to common shepherds, the first human heralds of Christs birth. As Christian stewards we simply allow Christ to live in us no matter what our circumstances happen to be. We allow Christ to share his love with us and reflect that love out to others. We now are the heralds of Christs Incarnation. What an unimaginable gift from a generous Lord. Good stewards rejoice in this gift and give glory to God.

Today, the greeting Merry Christmas is on our lips and in our hearts. What does this simple greeting mean? We know, of course, that for many people, things are not merry today, and that for all of us, there are certain things that cause us anxiety and sadness. There is evil in the world and in our lives. But Merry Christmas does not mean that we always feel happy, nor does it mean that everything is going our way. What it means instead is that even if everything else is falling apart, we always have access to God. Christ has come to lead us to the Father and bring us a new relationship with God and each other in the life that never ends. Merry Christmas means that even in the midst of sadness, we can never lose this gift. We simply need to take hold of it and be faithful. He is with us always, and that brings a peace and joy that the world can neither give nor take away. Merry Christmas! To welcome the Divine Child today is to welcome all that he will do and teach. We welcome the one who will preach the Sermon on the Mount, instruct us by parables, and establish his Church. In welcoming the baby in the manger, we welcome the Lord at the table giving the Eucharist, and we welcome the Lamb on the cross. We welcome all he welcomes, and are to make room for all he loves, especially the most unwanted, marginalized, burdensome, or inconvenient. If we welcome the baby Jesus, we welcome every baby and we welcome his teaching that every life is sacred, and we live accordingly. Priests for Life
This month our parish will be participating in a special service project to promote and further a Culture of Life within our parish and local community. The proceeds of this event will help support the life-saving work of Womans Choice Services, a Catholic pregnancy center in Lombard. With the generosity of this parish, the staff, and Fr. Peter, we will make good things happen for the clients. In the past, Christ the King has been so generous to Womans Choice Services, especially the Friday night prayer group, St. Vincent DePaul, Council of Catholic Women, among so many parishioners who serve as a volunteers at the Lombard office. On January 7th & 8th the bottles will be distributed to parishioners to take home. The bottles will also be given to Academy and Religious Education families. The bottle itself costs 62 cents each for Womans Choice Services to buy. If you will not be using the bottle, please do not take one. If you do take one please return on January 21 & 22nd to the narthex. Thank you in advance for your response to the call of the Gospel of Life, to serve those in great need! Parish Leadership
The Parish Leadership Team met on Tuesday, December 6, in the Early Learning Academy/Faith formation building. Staff and parish volunteers from all four commissions plus members of the Pastoral Parish Council were in attendance. The focus of the meeting was to discuss ideas for all four parish commissions to communicate with the parish and the community. The four parish commissions are Administration, Faith Formation, Service and Worship. If you have suggestions on how you would like these commissions to communicate with you, please feel free to contact me with your ideas. We will share the results of the December Leadership Team meeting at the next Pastoral Parish Council meeting on January 31, 2012. A note about the Christmas Season Tis the season, or so they say. When do the 12 days of Christmas actually happen? If you answered after Christmas then you are correct! Christmas does not begin until Christmas Eve and the Christmas Season lasts through the Baptism of Jesus. The twelve days of Christmas beginning December 26, through January 6, the traditional Feast of the Epiphany. In the Early Church, the birth of Jesus was celebrated as part of the feast of the Epiphany. It wasnt until around the year 330 that the Church of Rome moved the day to December 25. Today, during those 12 days, we celebrate many feasts. The Sunday after Christmas, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. (This year however, it will be celebrated on December 30.) January 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation as we celebrate the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. There is the Epiphany which is celebrated on the second Sunday after Christmas. Make sure you remember to continue the celebration of Christmas throughout the season. Your children are out of school, so spend some time baking cookies or creating Christmas scrapbooks. Keep those Christmas Carols playing and keep the tree up. If you have a real tree, take the ornaments off and place the tree outside decorated with popcorn strings, pine cones covered in peanut butter and bird seed, cereal strings or any other food the birds would like and let the birds enjoy the leftover tree!
"We hold a treasure of faith Lets pass it on! Let us know if the staff can assist and support you in this task. Your children are a gift and blessing to our parish. Fr. Jarosz

Meet us at the Lombard Train Station as we head out Downtown (Chicago) in search of Jesus! We will be walking around, passing out our gifts to the homeless as we head to Navy Pier for lunch and a bit of fun. We will also attend Mass at Holy Name Cathedral later that evening before heading home. We need supplies for our gifts. We can use small personal hygiene items such as hand lotion and sanitizer, toothbrushes and toothpaste, or combs. We can also use warmer cold weather gear such as gloves, hats, and scarves. If you can donate gift cards in $5 denominations to fast food restaurants such as McDonalds or Subway, we will give those out too. We will also hand out simple food items such as energy bars, gum, granola bars, and individual instant drink packets. Please drop any items off by Sunday, December 25th, in the Narthex. We do need some adult chaperones, so please consider helping us out with this awesome experience! Call Sherry Rochford for more information. Please RSVP by December 26th.
Parish Involvement:
As a gift from God, every human life is sacred from conception to natural death. The life and dignity of every person must be respected and protected at every stage and in every condition. The right to life is the first and most fundamental principle of human rights that leads Catholics to actively work for a world of greater respect for human life and greater commitment to justice and peace.
