BAGELS ARE FOR THE BIRDS-REALLY Students in Mrs. Gays class have been preparing some bagels covered with bird seed for our feathered friends in the garden. The bagels were prepared and hung in the central garden outside of the classroom where they can be observed by the students in class.

by Domenick J. Maglio, PhD. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give it anybody anything that the government does not rst take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that is does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. (Adrian Rogers, 1931-2005) The United States is one of the few nations of the world where most citizens believe that government should not take care of them. The individual needs only to be given the equal opportunity to rise to any level that his effort and good fortune brings him. That is the American way. A customer asked a hustling, 20 year-old waiter with an eastern European accent, what was his native tongue? He said he was a Russian student working during the summer to earn money to take back to pay for his schooling." His immediate goal was to better his nancial situation while his ultimate goal was to become a US citizen." This energetic young man said he loved the work opportunities in the USA. The people ooding into the United States believe that our nation with all its imperfections is far superior to anything else on Earth. ( continued on last page)

Preschool
Mrs. Cornelius & Ms. Bennett This week Pre-K students continued working with various fall materials. Students enjoyed the new fall number counting work. All children worked individually coloring pumpkin booklets. Each student also worked tracing broken lines, which helps with ne motor skill development. In math, students worked hard practicing number writing, and some students have started addition work as well. We spent time in circle talking about Veterans Day and read books about Veterans Day. We also discussed what freedom means. The art lesson entailed making a patriotic wind sock in honor of our veterans. Enjoy your weekend.

Lower Elementary
Mrs. Gay & Mrs. Musselman We began our week with a discussion of Veterans Day. Children proudly spoke of relatives who have served in the military. We talked about the sacrices made by the families whose loved ones have given so much to our country. Students were encouraged to thank those who have served. Jupiter was our focus planet this week. In addition to some basic facts, students learned some fun facts. They learned that the red spot on Jupiter is actually a huge tornado that has been swirling for hundreds of years. Next week we will learn about Saturn. Mid-week, the class had an introductory lesson on maps. The children learned that there are many different kinds of maps and that maps have many different uses. They examined a map of the world, a map of the United Sates, one of Florida, and completed several mapping exercises. They worked with using the map key to locate specic locations. Map study will continue next week. Enjoy your weekend. Reminder: The next book report is due November 15th.

Kazandra Crisostomo has her bagel ready for the birds.

Primary
Mrs. Iannone & Mrs. Korthas Great effort has been put forth by many of our kindergarten children. Many have begun to learn how to use a dictionary by practicing the alphabet and nding what letters come before and after each other. Jayden, Daanial and Elizabeth are starting dynamic addition. Almost all have started to learn the times tables. Boy, what pressure for our 1st graders ! First grade children really were able to get a good grasp of what treasures are to be found in our rain forests and why we must protect them. You will be seeing some art work soon depicting some things found there. We are also practicing how to write a good sentence, and how to spell words correctly that are not on our spelling list. Pretty tall orders! Enjoy your time together this weekend.

UPPER ELEMENTARY
Mrs. Gutierrez, Mrs. Graham, Ms. Thornton, Mr. DeVore The high school students should be preparing for mid terms before they leave for Christmas break. Math folders will be checked for completeness along with nal testing for the year. Many high school students should be thinking about a date to take the SAT and the ACT. The dates are posted in the classroom. Game night was a great time for the students to play games, dance and listen to music. Thank you to all the parents and students that made food for the event. All students need to work hard these next couple of weeks as your payback is a long vacation soon! Have a great weekend. There lives in each of us a Hero awaiting the call to Action!

This week we spoke about the dedication of our countrys veterans and the sacrices they made to protect our freedoms. We also learned the parts of a friendly letter and each student wrote a letter to a veteran. We continue to encourage our students appreciation for poetry. Last week they wrote biographies for a poet of their choice, and many memorized entire poems and shared them in circle. Along with memorization, we have written several poems in class and will now start to learn the different elements in poetry. Assigned books for the book report are required to be completed by the 15th of November. We are advancing in our new books in the study of our government and Constitution. This Tuesday, 11/16/10, we will be taking a test on our memory work of learning the Second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence. 5th grade Science: We are working on the physical and chemical changes of matter in chapter 3 of our text books. 4th grade History: We have all learned the Preamble and are dissecting the three branches of our government.

PRIMARY AFTER SCHOOL Mrs. Wagner The children had fun learning new games this week. On the playground we played Steal the Bacon, and Foxes and Turkeys. Indoors some of the kindergarten and rst graders played Eureka, a game of nding gold. Jayden Marques was certainly lucky. He won the rst two games we played. We talked in circle about harvesting crops. We learned a new word cornucopia and colored and cut fruit and vegetables to ll the cornucopia. We also made Indian gures and pasted feather headdresses on them.

JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH
Mrs. Parks, Mrs. Bravo, Ms. Ramirez, Mr. DeVore This week we discussed the meaning of Veterans Day. We read different compositions from students that entered in the V.F.W.s competition years ago. Many of their stories were compelling, as some were written days after the September 11th attack on the United States. The students also viewed a video from the Veterans, Honoring all That Have Served. So this Veterans Day, every student will recognize why they have a day off from school. The second quarter is passing quickly. Progress reports will be going out before Thanksgiving break. We are encouraging all students to do their best in their studies as this quarter will quickly be coming to an end! The seventh grade students will be completing their maps by the beginning of next week. Each map will show knowledge of each individual student in the area they chose. Hopefully we will be able to hang them in the hall for a bit before they go home. The seventh grade Earth Science students are learning about Earthquakes. They are learning where they most commonly occur and what causes them. The students are also studying how seismographs are used to detect and locate earthquakes. !

UPPER LEVEL AFTER SCHOOL

Ms. Bennett During our play ground time the children enjoyed the cool crisp weather. The children participated in hide and seek, kickball, dodge ball and tag. The junior high and high school students enjoyed playing games of basketball on the court. For art this week, the children made patriotic owers in honor of Veterans day and during circle the children discussed why we celebrate Veterans day. We also discussed the importance of being responsible. Many of the students seem to become quite forgetful when it comes to bringing their belongings to after school from their classes. Parents, please remember that your childs belongings should have their name or initials on them. Have a nice weekend.

(continued from front page) Planned economies have not produced wealth, just redistributed the wealth already accumulated. Their jobs cannot be generated in the private sector for none are allowed. When a society redistributes wealth, to create a utopian society, the incentive to improve along with the countrys wealth and freedom disappears. The right to keep ones earnings has motivated Americans to strive to better themselves. Communists-socialists have realized that in order to duplicate Americas success of high production and wealth they must create a free marketplace. These countries are removing regulations and allowing free market forces to direct the economy while the US is moving towards a government-planned economy redistributing wealth nationally and internationally." Fidel Castro, in a rare moment of honesty, said the Cuban economic model does not even work for us anymore. It has never worked. Most Cuban state workers make $20 a month. The icon of the left then tried to cover up his slip into honesty by saying he was talking about a capitalism event though several Spanish-speaking people interpreted his words. In support of his original statement his brother, Raul, has announced a 10% layoff of government employees, more than 500,000 people. The communist newspaper, Granma, in a two-page spread detailed a new tax system. The progressive politicians and the media of the United States for years have heralded Cuba as a successful political experiment. They viewed Fidel as a hero for liberating Cuban citizens while the economy has been a disaster and any dissenters were imprisoned, killed or ed to America. "The same U.S. progressives have held up nationalized health care as far superior to the American health care system. Cubas and other nationalized healthcare systems have been held up as models for the United States. We are supposed to disregard the 26 patients in Cubas largest mental health hospital who died from a cold snap and expos# showing deplorable disrepair of their facilities. We are supposed to forget that Fidel Castro went to Spain for treatment of his serious illness. We are supposed to ignore patients from all over the world ocking to America to get advanced treatment that does not exist in their country. "China has chosen to unleash free market forces for over a decade with spectacular results. Other countries have followed the Chinese lead. They have introduced more freedom in the marketplace decreasing the governmental central control over their economy while attempting to limit individual freedom. This is destined to fail. "Europe is realizing its socialistic polices are unsustainable. President Sarkozys bid to revitalize the French economy has increased the retirement age from 60 to 62. The French riot police reopened a strategic oil renery, standing up to union thugs and socialist fanatics. France, like Germany is veering away from socialism. England is dismantling its social welfare system. The Child-Family Assistance Program is being cut back to decrease the decit. Germany is also cutting back on cradle to grave care and Greece is in chaos over necessary cutbacks for its survival. "It is inexplicable that the US progressives are not aware of other nations moving away from socialism. "The movement by these Marxists to centrally control all aspects of life means that American exceptionalism must be erased." This bringing down of the USA will usher in a one-world government. There is no better way to subdue the human spirit than to abolish the hope of something better. By removing the shinning city on the hill people will no longer have the incentive to aspire to something greater than what they have. "At this moment America does still exist as a beacon of freedom, stability and opportunity to the world. "We do not want to lose this distinction. We have spoken loud and clear in the recent midterm elections. We said no to the progressives cramming Marxist ideals and principles down our throat. "The progressives no longer have to despise our limited government, free market system. Instead of trying to transform America into some type of Marxist society, they can exchange houses and citizenship with people of those nations. This exchange program will free the oppressed Marxists of America and welcome the simple, freedom loving citizens of the Marxist countries. It would be an exchange that would make everyone happy.
