READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
In Language Arts, we read the story
Scarcity. When something is scarce, it
means there is not enough of that
resource for everyone to have. Prices
usually go higher when items are scarce
such as a popular toy. Students worked on
facts and details for their comprehension
skill and distinguished elements of a nonfiction text. In Grammar, they learned
about singular and plural nouns. After
doing a few interactive note-booking
activities to practice the rules of how to
pluralize nouns, they did a sorting project
and we played a whole group game as
well.
They finished up their writing piece from
last week and made the craft for the
assignment titled, I Am Thankful.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Students read lessons 4 and 5 this week,

distinguishing the three branches of the state
and country government. The state government
has a governor, legislature, and courts. The
country government has the President,
Congress, and Supreme Court. We took notes
in our interactive notebooks and started
working on a three branches of government
project, which we will finish up next week.

MATH
Students are continuing to learn multiple
strategies to do double-digit addition. Toward the
end of the week, they learned the traditional
regrouping method. Knowing so many strategies
helps students figure out problems mentally.
They played an Around the Room, game where
various double-digit problems were taped around
the room, and they took their recording sheet,
found the hidden problems, and solved the
problems. We did lessons 4.3-4.6 this week, and
started 4.7 as well.

SCIENCE

Students read about a plants life cycle and

answered comprehension questions. They
sorted the differences between a plants needs
and wants. They learned about a pumpkins life
cycle and created a life cycle sequence project.
Although the study guide for chapter 3 went
home just this week, we have been learning
this chapter since the beginning of last week.
Students are almost done with the chapter and
we will have a chapter 3 test next Thursday.

International Week

Please make sure your child is completing their

Turkey cereal box project this weekend. It is due
on Monday. They will PRESENT their information, so
they must be aware of the facts. The facts should
accompany pictures based on the topic they chose
for their research. If you have misplaced the
information sheet, you can find it on my website.
Today a notice is going home asking parents to send
in a food item for next Thursday, for our
International Feast. I have uploaded a sharable
Google Doc under the file upload tab on my

have too much of one thing. It is a sharable doc.
