COUNTER BALANCE VALVE

CB Ref. No. D28100
Release 04/2004

Description

Counter balance valves are seat type valves. They offer free-flow
from port B to A and give leak free closure in opposite direction up
to a predetermined cracking pressure. This cracking pressure can
be adjusted within its maximum specified range. When it is
necessary to allow free flow from port A to B, the valve can be
piloted by supplying pilot pressure signal from port ’X’.

Maintenance Manual

MODEL : CB

Operation and Maintenance Instructions :

Counter Balance valve require very little attention from the user provided the valve is operated within the specified
conditions. However following guide lines be followed while storage, operation, commissioning and maintenance.

Storage :
For storage see that the valve is properly covered and well lubricated. This will prevent the ingress of dust and dirt in
working mechanism of the valve and it will be easy to install the same.

Operation :
Counter Balancing is required when ever gravity can move the load faster than the speed intended by the hydraulic
system. Counter Balance valves are seat type valves. They offer free flow from port B to A via check valve and give
leak free closure in opposite direction upto a pre-set pressure. When the pressure at port A rises slightly above the set
pressure, the relief valve poppet opens against the set spring force, thus allowing flow from port A to B.

Commissioning :
Following points be remembered while commissioning the valve;
Inlet line is connected to port A where as port B forms the outlet. See that correct size couplings and seals are used.

Maintenance :
Counter Balance valve does not need any major attention, but to ensure its efficient working and long life it is neces-
sary that following points be kept in mind.

The oil must be of prime quality and clean as per ISO code 16/13.

The oil must be periodically changed. Use of contaminated oil may lead to the formation of dents on the check valve
poppet and the relief poppet leading to excessive leakage non development of pressure.

The oil temperature be within specified range i.e. -20 °C to +70 °C.
