E. Developing
mastery .
(20 minutes) Plate tectonics
is a scientific
theory that
explains the
movement and interaction of Earth's
lithosphere, which is divided into several
large and small plates. These tectonic
plates are responsible for shaping the
Earth's surface, including the formation
of continents, mountains, earthquakes,
and volcanoes.

Alfred Wegener is
known as the "Father
of Plate Tectonics"
because he was the
first to propose the theory of continental .
drift, which is the basis for plate
tectonics

Lithosphere: The
outermost layer, which
includes the Earth's
crust and the rigid upper
part of the mantle. This
layer is broken into
tectonic plates.

Asthenosphere: Is
the layer of the
Earth’s mantle that
lies the lithosphere.

Magma: Is the molten rocks material

found beneath the Earth’s surface.

Subduction: Geological process that

occurs at convergent plate boundaries,
where one tectonic plate moves under
another and sinks into the mantle.

Continental Crust: Is the thick, solid

part of the Earth’s crust that makes up
the continents and some island.
Oceanic crust: Is the part of the Earth’s
crust that underlies the oceans.

3 Types of Plate Boundaries

1. Convergent boundary
2. Divergent boundary
3. Transform fault boundary

Convergent
Boundaries: Plates
move towards each
other. When they collide,
one plate may be forced below the other
(a process called subduction). This can
lead to the formation of mountain
ranges (e.g., the Himalayas) or deep
ocean trenches (e.g., the Mariana
Trench).

Divergent
Boundaries:
Plates move apart
from each other.
Magma rises from
below the Earth's
surface to fill the gap, creating new
crust. This process occurs at mid-ocean
ridges, like the Mid-Atlantic Ridge,
where new ocean floor is continuously
created.

Transform
Boundaries: Plates
slide past each other
horizontally. The friction between them Yes ma’am!
can cause earthquakes. A famous
example is the San Andreas Fault in Possible answer:

(10 minutes) “COMPLETE ME”

Instruction:
With the same group, all you have to do .
is to discuss the plate tectonics using
different puzzle materials. Every group
will be assigned to different tasks.
Each group will be given a
corresponding question for them to be
able to answer and complete the
assigned puzzle to them. The purpose of
this activity is to build their memory so
they can recall the entire lesson.
Materials:
Pieces of puzzle

Direction:
1. To discuss the plate tectonics, you
will be given different materials together
with corresponding question.
2. All you have to do is to analyze the
question assigned to your group to
complete the puzzle given.
3. Once you are done, 2 representatives
per group will go in front of the class to
present their work.
4. Representatives per group will all go
in front together in orderly form, from
groups 1 to 6.
5. Group one will discuss their work,
followed by group 2,3,4,5, and 6.
