Question: 3
You are going to investigate the effect of the concentration of sugar solutions on
osmosis in a given sample.
Follow the steps given below:
Method:
1. Use the given raisin sample for performing the experiment. Divide the given
raisin samples into two equal amounts by weighing them.
2. Label two test tubes as A (distil water) and B (sugar). Add the water to one test
tube and the sugar solution to the other, so that they are half full.
3. Measure the mass of one sample of raisins and add to the tube labelled ‘A’.
4. Record your observations in the given table.
5. Repeat step 3 with the other raisin sample and add to the tube labelled ‘B’. Record
your measurements and leave the raisins for 20 minutes.
6. Remove the raisin sample from the test tubes and record your observations of the
texture ( firmness or flabbiness) of each raisin.
7. Blot dry the raisins with tissue paper and record their mass in your table.
8. Describe the percentage changes in mass of the raisins.
