NEWSPAPER- are valuable sources of information on current events.They come in
different sizes,colors,and languages,and have different scopes and contain different
stories.
PARTS OF THE NEWSPAPERS
 FRONT PAGE- This where the main articles are found.This page gives
information on the major events happening in the country and the
world.This page also contains the nameplate,or the name of the
newspaper.
 EDITORIAL PAGE- this page expresses the opinions of the editors and/or
the publication.It is also in this page where you can find articles by the
columnists,as wella as letters to the editor sent by the readers.
 SPORTS PAGE- this page gives news and information about sports.
 ENTERTAINMENT PAGE- this page gives information about television
programs,stage plays,music,cartoons,comics and other forms of
entertainment.
 CLASSIFIED ADS- this page gives information about jobs,business
updates,houses or lands for sale.

 Organize your thoughts before speaking.
 State one opinion at a time.Elaborate on a particular opinion by stating
details that logically support your statement.
 Use words that are not offensive.Be considerate about the feelings of your
listeners,even if you believe that you are entitled to your own opinion.

II.Discussion:
If you were to direct a TV weather forecast,how would you make it interesting
and entertaining yet informative?Describe your ideas.
You will read a text that describes what a meteorologist does. As you read the
selection,write the words that describe what a meteorologist does. The title of the
selection is MY DREAM METEOROLOGIST.
1.What does a meteorologist do?
2.How are meteorologist able to help people?Give concrete examples.
3.Do you want to be a meteorologist someday?Why or Why not?
4.In your own words,describe Dodong’s reactions to his first crush?
5.What did Ms.Bahaghari mean when she said” Like the ever changing
weather,forecasting is never tha same any day?
Do you kmnow that the English language has many words which have multiple
meanings? The meanings of these words are determined by the context in which they
are used. For example ,the word ball can have two different meanings.
1. The princess had a golden ball,which she plays with every afternoon. (Ball as a
spherical object.)
2. A ball will be held to celebrate the king’s birthday.( Ball as an organized dance.)

HOMONYMS – are words that sound the same but are spelled differently and
have different meanings; or are spelled the same but have different meanings
or different pronounciations.
Examples:
 The camp site is located deep into the woods.(location for an event).
 Please cite your sources of the report.( to refer to)
 Jeff is overjoyed at the sight of her.(something worth seeing.)
 Sam does not feeling well today.( physically not in the right condition)
 Our neighborhood are digging a new well.( a deep hole)

The following are some steps and tips on how to effectively conduct an
interview.
1. Write down notes about the details your interviewee provides.
2. Ask one questions.
3. Be as neutral as possible.
4. Encourage responses from the interviewee.
5. Provide transitions between major topics.
6. Do not lose control of the interview.

PREDICATE- tell about the subject or what it does.


A predicate noun,also called subjective
complement,renames,identifies,or explains the subject of a
sentence.It provides a description or identification of a subject.
Examples:
1.Vilma Santos is the governor of Batangas.
2. She is an architect.
In the first sentence,the noun governor renames the subject Vilma
Santos.In the second sentence,the architect is identified being the subject
she.

DRAFTING- is simply writng down your ideas in a way you want the write-up
to look like,giving concrete shape to its form.
Example:
All pupils will receive a free lunch pass every first Wednesday of the
month,Mr.Jeremias de Villa,the principal,announced to the whole school on
Monday.
He made the surprise announcement after the national anthem at the
covered court.
The free lunch pass for all pupils is a way of celebrating the school’s
success in winning the Interschool Basketball League this year.
Notice that important details are already presented:
 Who: Mr.Jeremias de Villa: pupils
 What: free lunch pass very first Ednesday of the Month
 When: last Monday after the national anthem
 Where: at the covered court
 Why: in celebration of the school’s success as basketball champions.

III.Activity III
Underline the subject and box the predicate noun.

 Can you tell what the helping verb used to mean?
Read these sentences.

The underlined words are verbs.They are in the past tense.The expression
used to + verb shows that the action happened regularly or habitually in the
past.These actions are no longer done in the present.
III.Activity 1:
Complete these sentences with verbs that indicate habitual past action.Use the
phrase used to + verb.
