CENTRE POINT SCHOOL (AB)

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS

LESSON PLAN FOR THE PERIOD 17th July to 31st July 2023

TOTAL NUMBER OF PERIODS: 15 approx. (11 days)

TOPIC: TRIANGLES (Exercise 6.3 only)

SUB TOPICS

Similar Triangles.
Criteria for similarity of triangles.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

FOR ALL: Students will be able to

a) Differentiate between congruence and similarity.

b) Identify similar triangles using the different criteria on similar
triangles.

FOR MOST: Students will be able to

a) Apply the properties of similar triangles and establish similarity
criteria.

FOR FEW: Students will be able to

a) Apply the concepts to real life situations. (Case study type questions)

METHODOLOGY:

PERIOD WISE PLAN

Period 1:

Introduction to the concept of similarity of 2D figures will be done by the

teacher by illustrating it with various examples. After thorough recap and
discussion of Congruency, Similarity will be emphasized upon and the
importance of one-to-one correspondence will be explained again in case
of similarity.

Period 2:

Criteria for similarity of triangle i.e., AAA or AA, SAS, SSS will be explained
with examples (using figures). Corresponding sides of similar triangles are
proportional & corresponding angles of similar triangles are equal will be
discussed.
After thorough discussion on criteria of similarity of triangles, sums based
on whether the two triangles are similar or not and if similar then by which
criteria will be drilled. The importance of writing the correct similarity
statement following one-one correspondence will be emphasized upon.
Ref Ex. 6.3 – Q1
Period 3 to 6:

Sums based on application of criteria of similarity of triangles will be

continued.
Ex. 6.3 will be solved/discussed.
(Ref Q2, Q3, Q4, Q6, Q8, Q9 Q10, Q12, Q13, Q14, Q15, Q16.)

Period 7

Solved examples may be discussed and doubt clearing for further

strengthening of concepts taught.

Period 8

MCQ will be discussed and solved.

Period 9

Extra questions will be discussed/solved.

TOPIC: INTRODUCTION TO TRIGONOMETRY

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

FOR ALL

Students will be able to

 Identify the adjacent side, opposite side and the hypotenuse with
respect to an acute angle in a right-angled triangle.
 Define the six trigonometric ratios of an acute angle of a right-angled
triangle.

FOR MOST

Students will be able to

 Calculate trigonometric ratios in right angled triangles.

FOR FEW

Students will be able to

 Derive trigonometric ratios in terms of another trigonometric ratio.

METHODOLOGY & PERIODWISE PLAN

Period 10 and 11: The teacher shall introduce the topic by discussing
some real-life examples from our surroundings where right triangles can be
imagined to be formed. In such situations, heights and distances can be
found by using some mathematical techniques which come under a branch
of mathematics called trigonometry. Trigonometry is the study of
relationships between the sides and angles of a triangle.

PPT1 can be shown to highlight the situations in real life where applications
of trigonometry can be seen. (Already approved last year)

The meaning of different terms like opposite side/perpendicular,

adjacent side/base and hypotenuse will also be revised related to a right-
angled triangle and its acute angles.

Trigonometric ratios of an acute angle in a right triangle which expresses

the relationship between the angle and the length of its sides shall be
defined and discussed in detail. It will also be explained that the values of
trigonometric ratios of an angle do not vary with the lengths of the sides of
a triangle, if the angle remains the same. The trigonometric ratios sine,
cosine, tangent in terms of opposite side adjacent side and hypotenuse will
be derived. It will further be emphasized that

cosecant is the reciprocal of sine.

secant is the reciprocal of cosine.

cotangent is the reciprocal of tangent will also be explained.

Period 12: Ref.Ex 8.1 Q2, Q5 based on trigonometric ratios will be solved.

Period 13: Ref.Ex 8.1 Q6, Q7,Q10

Period 14: Ref.Ex 8.1 Q11

Period 15 : Solved sums will be discussed/ solved

Note:

The question numbers specified in the period wise plan are only for
reference. The teachers have the freedom to group questions
according to their choice as per the need of the class.
