NATURE OF THE LESSON: Vocabulary

TITLE OF THE LESSON: The names of some farm animals (cock; cow; pig;
sheep; goat; donkey)

DURATION OF THE LESSON: 55 mns

AIM: To familiarize the form I pupils with the names of some farm animals for
their daily use.

OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, the pupils will be able to:
 Identity each of the selected animals.
 Write correctly the names of the selected animals;
 Discuss and Build their own five (5) meaningful sentences using the
different names of the selected animals.

PRE-REQUISITES: The Pupils have already been taught the simple present
tense; the articles, the possessive adjectives, some colors.

ANTICIPATED PROBLEMS: Pupils may have difficulties with the


pronunciation of some words like « cow », « goat » and « donkey ».

ANTICIPATED SOLUTIONS: The teacher will lay emphasis on the
pronunciation of these words.

TEACHING MATERIALS: Board; pieces of chalk; bucket with water; duster,


pictures and curtain.

CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION: Individually and per table

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE: All the activities will be assessed orally and in


the written form.

STAGES

Stage I: Presentation (12mns)

Step 2 : Procedure :
The teacher shows up the picture of one of the selected farm animals, she
pronounces the name three times and gets the students repeat chorally, by row
and individually. Then, she writes it on the board. After that she gives an
illustrative sentence. She proceeds the same with the other pictures.
Unfolding of the lesson

Vocabulary: The names of some farm animals

1- A cock
Example: The cock sings early in the morning.

2- A cow
Example: The cow produces milk.

3- A pig
Example: Muslims don’t eat pig meat.

4- A sheep
Example: My father kills a sheep on Ramadan day.

5- A goat
Example: Mr. Diallo has many goats.

6- A donkey: Some farmers use the donkey to cultivate.

Stage II: Practice (15mns)

Activity 1: Oral and individual (5mns)


Step 1: Teacher – pupils’ interaction (2mns)
The teacher presents the pictures of two (2) selected farm animals
to the pupils and asks them question.
Teacher: Is it a donkey?
Pupils: No, it’s a ….

Step 2: Pupils – pupils’ interaction (3mns)


The teacher gives the pictures of three (3) selected farm animals
to three (3) pupils and tells them to ask the same question to their
classmates.

Activity 2: Written and individual work (10mns)


Instruction: Write the name of each farm animals under its drawing.
The teacher gives sheets containing pictures of the selected farm animals
to each student so that he completes the task. She completes the name of
the first drawing as an example.

Step 1 : Task completion (5mns)


Step 2: Correction and assessment (5mns)

Procedure: The teacher orders the pupils to exchange their sheets with their
neighbors. They mark 1 for each correct answer.

Correction :
Assessment: Who has got? 5/5 excellent!
Who has got 4/5 very good!
Who has got 3/5? Good!

The teacher tells the pupils to give back the sheets to their classmates by
congratulating them and reorders those who failed to take the correction.

Stage III: Production (17mns)

Activity3: Written and per table
Instruction: With your neighbors, discuss and choose five (5) names of
the farm animals to build five (5) meaningful sentences.
Step 1: Task completion(8mns)
Step 2: Feedback and adjustments (7mns)
The teacher listens to as many sentences as possible and selects the best
ones to report on the board.

Homework(02mn)
Instruction: At home, draw five (05) farm animals that your parents have.

Note taking and administrative duties (6mns)


The teacher fills the record book and checks attendance while the pupils
are copying the lesson and shows them how to stick the paper (written and
individual sheets) on their lesson copybooks.
Closing(01mn)
The teacher thanks the students for their attendance and reminds them to do their
homework for next time.
