COMPULSION
DRAFT III
WRITTEN BY EMILY WILSON

FADE IN 1. INT. HOTEL ROOM - DAY A dark and under-furnished hotel room, the curtains are shut and there is light coming through the gaps, creating a warm sepia tone. There is blood on the mattress but no source yet identified. FARAH is sitting in a chair she is wearing a white blouse and has been stabbed in the stomach; she holds the wound but remains calm as if nothing has happened. A tall and broad man is stood in front of the woman a few meters away; he is wearing a dark suit and is casually leaning on a desk, looking at FARAH. MAN (Relaxed and slow paced) How did you get yourself into this? FARAH (Shakes her head and laughs) You should know better than anyone, after all, you are the reason Im here. CAMERA films through a glass of water, the man picks it up out of shot FARAH (CONTD) I never knew he worked for you. [BEAT] Things would have been different if I did. MAN Everything was necessary. (Takes a sip of water) CLOSE UP side on shot of the woman FARAH I bet you think Ive been after you, I must admit the trail Ive left wouldnt deny otherwise. I have been looking for you. MAN (Coldly) True. [BEAT] But I was looking for you first. 2. INT. SUPERMARKET - NIGHT CUT TO a flashback. Farah is being chased she is running down aisles of a supermarket and hides behind a shelf panting and keeping a look out.

3. INT. HOTEL ROOM - DAY CUT BACK, FARAH lifts her legs up onto the chair with some pain. FARAH (Sighs) Life seems to pass you by so fast when you are a target. (Making small circles with her index finger) Mouse on a wheel. LOW ANGLE shot with her feet as a main focus FARAH (CONTD) I guess thats why this isnt my life anymore. [BEAT] You ever had an addiction sir? [Beat] MAN (Curious) Elaborate. FARAH An addiction. [BEAT] You know, something that keeps you up thinking about it, you are never really awake, never really asleep. MID SHOT FARAH (CONTD) Love and blood 4. INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT CUT TO flashback. FARAH is with her boyfriend NATE; they are in front of a fire and whispering closely to each other, they both look happy and in love. FARAH (CONTD) And Nate got me hooked on both. 5. INT. PORCH - NIGHT CUT TO flashback of NATE and FARAH saying goodbye before she went on a job, he hands her a note with her name written on the front, but he doesnt let her open it, they kiss before embracing each other, neither seem to want to let go. FARAH (V.O.) So I went to the job, but for him. I never thought I would. But I knew he would keep me safe. [BEAT] After all he taught me everything I know.

6. INT. HOTEL ROOM - DAY CUT TO a side on shot of FARAH FARAH (CONTD) Never lost it (laughing) I guess its like riding a bike, once you learn you never forget. [BEAT] Sometimes I think back to what I have done, the people I have saved because of the people I have killed. Its strange to be able to think like that. MAN I am well aware of your track record. [BEAT] Its partly the reason I needed you dealt with. CUT TO close up of her face FARAH Hey (gestures towards him) Ive probably saved your life a couple of times without you even knowing. Ever considered that? MAN (Avoiding eye contact) No. You have caused me too much trouble for me to consider it. 7. INT. EXPENSIVE HOTEL ROOM - NIGHT CUT TO flashback of FARAH dancing with a man, she is wearing a long black dress and they are dancing slowly. FARAH (V.O.) It couldnt be avoided. Sometimes the only way to achieve what is good is to do something bad. Kind of like being told the aim of a board game, but not the rules. CUT TO a close up of the two, he goes in to kiss her but she stabs him in the stomach. 8. INT. HOTEL ROOM DAY CLOSE UP of her hand slowly tapping her legs FARAH (CONTD) Vermin. I dont regret doing in a single one of them. And you. (Suddenly stops tapping) Close up of the MAN turning in reaction to FARAH

CUT TO close up of FARAHs face, HANDHELD camera FARAH (CONTD) You have done some evil things, unspeakable things. You know you deserve to get it in the neck, you were just too scared to take what you had coming werent you? CUT TO LOW ANGLE shot of the man MAN (Laughing smugly) What have I got to be scared of exactly? You? FARAH (Coldly) Yes. [BEAT] You get your guys to do the dirty work, while you sit and let them slowly lay their head on the chopping block. CUT BACK to CLOSE UP side on shot of FARAH FARAH (CONTD) You know you deserve to die today. [BEAT] Not I. MAN Im afraid that isnt your decision to make (slowly pulls gun out of pocket) CUT to HIGH ANGLE WIDE SHOT of FARAH FARAH Perhaps you will look back to this day (Pointing at him with her bloodied hand) and I know you will look back. And you will think about me saying this, think about how you set out for me, spent so long searching. And then you found me. CUT TO CLOSE UP of her face FARAH (CONTD) You will ask yourself if it was too late, [BEAT] because I am already dead my friend. And I was dead long before you arrived. MAN looks over towards the bed CUT TO side on shot of FARAH

FARAH (CONTD) (Becoming teary) Everything I once knew, everything I thought he was, everything I thought we had. It was yours and I was just being played, my love turned against me. SLOWLY PANNING to bed where NATE is lying dead after being stabbed MAN It was the only way I could get the opportunity to stand here with you today. [BEAT] If it is any consolation to you, we gave him no other choice. (Insincerely) It must have been very hard for you. FARAH (Quickly correcting his assumption) Oh no, I didnt hesitate. Once I knew he was your rat. (Slow sigh) I loved him so. [BEAT] But I was sent for him. [BEAT] He is just another name crossed off the list. Over the shoulder shot to the MAN as he raises his gun to FARAHs head, but she doesnt flinch. FADE OUT
