LEARNING PLAN

SUBJECT AREA: Physical Science QUARTER: Third (3)

DATE: March 6, 2024 UNIT: Two (2)

TOPIC: Chemical Reactions LEARNING PLAN #: 5

TRANSFER GOALS
The students in the long run and on their own will be able to …
The learners in the long run and on their own will independently use their learning to creatively
present the properties, uses, mode of action and the precautionary measures in household and
personal care products in order to promote awareness and practice of good health and proper
care for the body, becoming a responsible steward of God’s creation.

ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING
Students will understand that …
The concept chemical reaction allows us to understand how chemical changes takes place
manipulate the properties of existing substances and products to enhance their properties or
create better ones that could upgrade the quality of life that God intended us to live by.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS
The students will keep considering the following:
Why is there a need to understand of the concept of chemical reaction by applying it in real-life
situation?

I. PRELIMINARIES

REVIEW:
The teacher will ask the students to recall the different types of biological macromolecules.
“How important is the biological macromolecules in our body?”

FOCUS: Chemical Reaction

MOTIVATION:
Shows pictures of a fire work and a rusty railings. The teacher will post a question on what is
the similarity and differences of the two pictures in relation to chemical reaction”.

APK:
Have you heard about different products that uses rusting to cook a meal?

 LESSON DEVELOPMENT

 PRESENTATION OF CONCEPTS
Students will know …
 The collision theory
 The role of the catalyst

Students will be able to…

 The learners shall be able to use simple collision theory to explain the effects of
temperature, concentration, particle size or surface area on the rate of reaction
 The learners shall be able to define catalyst and describe how it affects reaction rate

ACTIVITIES:
The class will be divided into three (3) groups, each group will brainstorm and briefly report on
the following factors that affects the rate of reaction:
G1: Reactant Concentration
G2: Temperature
G3: Physical state of the reactants in a surface area
The groups will then be instructed to come up with an example of a chemical reaction that
proves the effects of the following factors in the chemical reaction.

BROADENING OF CONCEPT:

Process Questions:
Why is it important to think ahead of time rather than reacting abruptly or suddenly towards a
certain situation?

A. INTEGRATION

a) IGNACIAN CORE/ RELATED VALUES: Faith: Strong Faith in God

In what way did you experience a some kind of reaction that makes you feel the
presence of our Almighty God in our lives?

b) SOCIAL ORIENTATION: Societal Awareness

Is there a reaction in our human body when we socialize with other people?

c) LESSON ACROSS DISCIPLINE: Social Science

In the history of human kind, does the pleasure in interaction with other human in a
social convention sparks a chemical reaction that eventually makes us all connected?

d) FAITH/ BIBLICAL REFLECTION:

Isaiah 40:12: “Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, And marked off
the heavens by the span, And calculated the dust of the earth by the measure, And
weighed the mountain in a balance And the hills in a pair of scales?”

II. EVALUATION / ASSESSMENT:

On a ¼ sheet of paper, the students will answer the following questions:

1. Enumerate the factors that could affect the rate of a chemical reaction.
2. What is the role of a catalyst in a chemical reaction?

III. SUMMARY / ACTION

Now that we know the involvement of the collision theory in explaining the effects of
concentration, temperature, and particle size of the rate of reaction, as Ignacian-Marian-
Ritarian student, in what way can you help make life easier by applying the concepts in your
day to day living?

IV.PURPOSIVE ASSIGNMENT

Creatively capture 2 pictures in your surroundings. 1 st picture must convey a physical change in
a captured object and 2nd picture must convey a chemical change on a captured object.
