A SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE

Instructor: For. Hannah Jane DR. Allesa

Time Allotment: 20 mins
Year Level: Grade 12

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards
The following aspects of chemical changes:
1. how fast a reaction takes place
2. how much reactants are needed and how much products are formed in a
reaction
3. how much energy is involved in a reaction

B. Performance Standards
The learners shall be able to:
Make either a poster, a flyer, or a brochure on a product (such as fuels, household, or
personal care products) indicating its uses, properties, mode of action, and
precautions

C. Learning Competencies
S11/12PS-IIIf-23 - use simple collision theory to explain the effects of concentration,
temperature, and particle size on the rate of reaction

D. Specific Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. define collision theory and describe how it affects the chemical reaction; and
2. explain the different factors affecting the rate of reaction.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Rate of Chemical Reactions
B. References
https://opentextbc.ca/chemistry/chapter/12-2-factors-affecting-reaction-rates/

III. MATERIALS
Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation

IV. LEARNING PROCEDURE

A. Prayer

B. Attendance Checking
Ask the beadle if there are any students absent

C. Review of the previous lesson – Collision Theory

1. Ask a student to define Collision Theory
2. Ask a student to identify the assumptions of the Collision Theory

D. Motivation
The students will be given examples of changes in matter all they have to do is to
identify whether it is a physical or chemical change
E. Lesson Proper
What is a Chemical Reaction?
When two particles collide, sometimes a chemical reaction can occur, which means
the bonds between two or more particles are broken and reformed, creating one or
more new substances. The substances or particles that enter and are changed in the
chemical reaction is called reactants and the substances that are formed are called
products.

Factors Affecting the Rate of Reaction

1. Activation Energy
2. Temperature
3. Concentration
4. Surface Area and Particle Size

F. Application
The teacher will ask the students to watch three videos. Then the students will be
paired to answer the succeeding guide questions.

G. Summary
The teacher will ask a volunteer to summarize the discussion.

V. EVALUATION

PART A. Modified True or False

Directions: Write the word TRUE if the statement is correct. If the statement is FALSE,
change the italicized word to make the statement correct.
1. Decreasing the concentration of the reactants increases the collision frequency
between reacting particles.
2. Increasing the concentration of a substance increases the kinetic energy of the
particles that make up the substance.
3. Increasing the surface area of the reactant, increases the rate of the reaction.
4. Raising the temperature of the reaction increases the rate of the reaction by
increasing the energy of the collisions between reacting particles.
5. If the reactant particles collide with less than the activation energy, the particles
bounce back and no reaction will occur.

PART B. Identification
Directions: Identify what factor affects the rate of chemical reaction in the following
situations. Use the choices below by writing the correct letter before the number.
A. Temperature B. Concentrations C. Particle Size

1. The food was refrigerated.

2. A coal dust explosion happens in mines.
3. Acid rain erodes marble fast.
4. Two antacid tablets neutralize acids faster than one tablet.
5. Kindling is used to start a fire

VI. ASSIGNMENT
Advance study on Balancing Chemical Equations
