Title: The Level of College Preparedness of Grade 12- Students in Oleras National High School
Abstract:
The main aim of this study is to learn the level of college preparedness of Grade 12
Students in Oleras National High School. This was conducted in order to help students who does
not yet know what to do after they graduate Senior High School. Such as what course to be
taken, which university to go, how to apply in college, and the overall experience of becoming a
college freshman. Students may have the most difficult decision to make in choosing courses and
schools because it will determine the path of their choice of course in the future career. There are
students who do not have plans after graduating and is not entirely bothered. There are even
those who choose not to seek higher education after Senior High School. There are also those are
barely sure about their situation with college preparedness.

Introduction:
This study aims to determine the degree of college preparedness of grade 12 students.
Students in grade 12 are now in their final year of high school. Senior high school students have
the right to decide what the next step is after graduation, and it is most commonly entering
college. "a function of the ability to continue to learn beyond high school, and particularly in
postsecondary courses relevant to students' goals and interests, as represented by their choice of
major or certificate program," he said. (conley, 2014). Providing some guidance to those
incoming college freshmen is crucial to encouraging them to take personal responsibility for
their own path and future. The schreiner's thriving model is a theoretical framework that consists
of three areas that contribute to students' success in college, which are academic, interpersonal,
and intrapersonal, according to schreiner. These areas are derived from studies in student growth
and positive psychology. They address students' intra-personal well-being, social skills and
interests, as well as the academic context in which they work. Schreiner identifies five elements
that make up these three areas of growth: positive perspective, social connectivity, diverse
citizenship, academic determination, and engaged learning. College preparedness refers to the
knowledge, attitudes, and abilities that a senior high school student should have to accommodate
to any job they encounter.Under the k to 12 programs, senior high school is considered the last
two years of secondary education. This class covers grades 11 and 12, which covers a total of
four semesters. Students in senior high school complete a variety of programs and activities as
part of their chosen subject. It's all about being able to excel while studying at a university of
higher learning. The schools are looking for ways to enhance their high school and career
readiness.
After graduating senior high school, students who are yet to decide what to do will be aided
by college preparation. Describe what to do, how to apply in college, and the overall experience
of being a college freshman. Students may have the hardest decision to make when it comes to
choosing courses and colleges because it will influence their future career choices. It is important
that graduating Grade 12 students were observed. That is why the researchers will be learning the
status of college preparedness of graduating Senior High School students and find an effective
way for them to plan and develop the aspects of their preparedness.m
College Preparedness is a global topic. It is essential for a student know and to be exposed
to the process of planning for college and for schools to help them, School coun WW2selors are
often charged with ensuring the college and career readiness of all students (ASCA, 2012). In
schools, Gysbers (2013) suggested that school counselors served students by providing activities
that "support student planning by giving emphasis to the development and use of decision-
making, goalsetting, and planning skills" and by stressing "basic academic and career and
technical education preparation skills".
According to Mitra and Gross (2009) defined three types of student voice: being heard,
collaborating with adults, and building capacity for leadership. Collaborating with adults has
been occurring most frequently in schools by getting feedback from students after completing an
assessment or parts of the course and asking for input in creating the lessons.
With students learning the importance of planning, Grade 12 students particularly have a
different case worth mentioning in career and college preparedness. The SHS curriculum is an
entry point to college/university life or business and industry, then later seen as the lesser of the
two regarding prestige (Bidwell, 2014, Peano et.al., 2008). While according to Sarmiento, D. and
Orale, R. (2016), with their academic research journal entitled: "Senior High School Curriculum
in the Philippines, USA, and Japan." The K to 12 education programs in the Philippines
addresses the defects of the country basic education curriculum. As claimed by the proponent of
the K12 program, the curriculum is seamless, ensuring the smooth transition between grade
levels and continuum of competencies.
Senior high school has a clear impact on the next batches of college freshman in the
Philippines. Sarmiento, D. and Orale, R. (2016), The K-12 program is a more potent educational
model compared to the old curriculum of basic education in the Philippines. Students can prepare
themselves for a more rigorous training in the higher education or go immediately to
employment or be an entrepreneur. Being new in the Philippines, it is marred with issues such as
lacking qualified teachers and the much-needed facilities for use in the highly specialized
courses, specifically at the SHS level.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This study was conducted in Oleras National High School Laoang Northern Samar, V
District in Barangay Oleras Laoang, Northern Samar. Barangay Oleras is one of the largest rate
of population among the barangays of the municipality of Laoang.
Research Design
Descriptive correlational research design was employed because this study sought to
determine the profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, general average during 1st
semester, and to determine the significant relationship between the respondents' demographic
profile to their level of college preparedness.
Respondents
The respondents of this study are composed of 86 students from grade 12 both from Ecosia and
Mozilla.
Research Instrument
The instrument used in this study is a survey checklist composing of two parts. Part 1 deal with the
profile of the respondents, Part 2 will determine the level of college preparedness.
The instrument on the level of college preparedness among Grade 12 students of Oleras National
High School was patterned from Marco Echevarria, Bea Masujer, Veronica De Vera, Shara Mae
Amatondling and Ariel Guerero in their study entitled College Readiness of Senior High School Students
In Bulan National High School.
Before the actual conduct of this study, the researchers asked permission through a letter from our
research adviser to ask for their permission to conduct the study. With her approval, another letter was
sent to the school head for the approval questionnaire that was given to the respondents. The data
gathered was tallied, computed, analyzed and interpreted using appropriate statistical tools.
The statistical treatment that will be used in this study to ensure the accuracy of the data are as follows:
Frequency Counts and Percentage. This was used in interpreting the data in terms of the profile of the
respondents such as age, sex and general average during 1st semester.
Weighted Mean. This was utilized in determining the level of college preparedness among Grade 12
students in Oleras National High School.
Pearson Correlation Analysis. Correlation refers to a technique used to measure the relationship
between two or more variables. When two things are correlated, it means that they vary together.
Positive correlation means that high scores on one are associated with high scores on the other, and
that low scores on one are associated with low scores on the second. Negative correlation on the other
hand, means that high scores on the first thing are associated with low scores on the second. Negative
correlation also means that low scores on the first are associated with high scores on the second.
Linear Regression Analysis. Is a powerful statistical method that allows you to examine the relationship
between two variables of interest. While there many types of regression analysis, at their core they all
examine the influence of one or more independent variables on a dependent variable.
Descriptive Analysis. Descriptive statistic is used to describe the basic features of data in a study. They
provide simple summaries about the sample and the measures. Together with simple graphics analysis
they from the basis of virtually every quantitative analysis of data.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:
In this chapter, the results and data of the study will be presented. The gathered information will
be analyzed and interpreted from the collected survey questionnaires. After distributing and collecting
the researchers ensure that the data and information gathered will be tabulated appreciately in
accordance with the purpose of the study. The study revealed that the majority of the respondents' age
17-18 years old, both Ecosia and Mozilla. After conducting this study, researchers find out that the age
of 17-18 years old of the respondents are have not yet prepared when it comes the in entering college,
based on the data we conducted. In addition, Preparation for college success often takes place
throughout a student's high school career. To even get admitted to a college, students normally need a
baseline level of academic performance in high school combined with adequate scores on entrance
exams. High schools also commonly offer technical courses for students to explore career options.
Learning Independence despite emphasis on academics, much of the importance of college education
lies in the area of transition to becoming a young adult. College students need to think independently,
demonstrate self-discipline and manage time and stress. Learning these skills toward the end of high
school makes this transition more progressive and less difficult. Parents and students must collaborate
by agreeing to decisions and standards that encourage the student to assume responsibilities, make
decisions and accept accountability for them.
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, Grade 12 Students are not completely prepi. The college preparedness of Grade 12
Senior High School Students is all In the middle. The Researchers suggested future researchers of this
study will have a finished study to base on for further improved, advance, and applied research
regarding the same topic. The students' situations can be further developed by doing actions about it.
