CHAPTER I
Introduction
Choosing a senior high school strand is one of the most challenging decisions
that junior high school students will have to face. It is greatly important because the
strand they choose will serve as their training ground before entering college. Making
a decision implies that there are choices to be considered, and in such case, we
want only to identify as many of these alternatives as possible but to choose the one
that best fits with our goals, objectives, desires, values and so on.
The Philippines, along with Djibouti and Angola in Africa, is one of only three
challenging to compete with other nations that have at least 12 years of basic
education due to this short duration The study looked into senior high school
students' career and course interests. The research looked at how personality,
parents, hobbies, employment opportunities, and peer pressure affected junior high
school students' career decisions. (Japitan et al., 2015). It's time, according to
Ramos (n.d.), to reexamine how public education aids kids in deciding their
educational and professional aspirations. We must think about the future of students
seek low-wage jobs that provide a steady source of income. Nursing, accounting,
and engineering are all quite popular among Filipino households (Saysay, 2011).
Every job path that one wishes to pursue has various options. As a consequence of
the methods and measures they take, some people may be able to discover better
career opportunities. It is definitely worth your time to take time out of your daily
routine to explore for fresh career prospects. The significance of career management
for students cannot be overstated. Many students assume that the vocational or
track they choose in secondary school has nothing to do with the career in which
they would later specialize (Cabanias, 2021). The study looked into senior high
school students' career and course interests. The research looked at how
(Manapsal, 2018). When it comes to making career options, there are a number of
elements that impact students' indecisiveness. Students are not given adequate

the students under K-12 on which track they would take for senior high school. The
study was only limited to the Grade 10 students of the Davao del Sur school of

Friends/ Peer Influence and Family Background however, those would not be within
this study.

METHODOLOGY
In this chapter the researcher discussed the methodology and the procedure
engaged in the study. The following part includes the research design used in the
conduct of the study, the locale, the participants, procedure followed and statistical
tool.
Research Design
Research Locale
The study will take place at the Davao del Sur School of Fisheries in
Barangay, Bagumbayan, Malalag Davao del Sur, which is situated alongside the
national highway.
Sampling Procedure
The total number of participants was obtained using the slovin’s formula.
From the grade 10 Arapaima section where there are 63 students, 54 were taken as
participants. The selection of 54 students were made by listing the total number of
grade 10 students of Arapaima section. The study was conducted among the
selected grade 10 junior high students of Davao Del Sur School of Fisheries, located
at Bagumbayan Malalag Davao del sur. The researchers get the valid result of the
respondents through random sampling. Statistical Random Selection is a subset of
individually chosen from a larger set (a population). It is an unbiased surveying
technique and basic type of sampling, since it can be a component of other more
complex sampling methods. The principle of random sampling is that every object
has the same probability of being chosen.
Respondents
The respondents of this study are the Grade 10 Arapaima students of Davao
del Sur School of Fisheries. The researcher will use probability sampling, specifically
Slovin sampling to get the sample size of the respondents in our study.
Formula
Data Gathering
Ask for approval The researchers asked for approval from their respective
teachers who oversee the research. It was to know whether the study will be
accepted. They checked if there were further corrections and revisions to be made
before the conducting of research.
Make a questionnaire When the study was approved, the researchers started
working on their questionnaire basing their questions on the theories they’ve found.
The researchers used related questions to be able to achieve the respective goal of
their study.
Analyze data The researchers collected the questionnaire distributed from the
Grade 10 respondents. Each questionnaire was checked by the researchers and the
data gathered. Also, they analyzed the results and had the answer.
Statistical Treatment
Mean. Employs to present the factors that influence the students in choosing an
academic track.
Pearson-r. Employs to test the degree of relationship between the factors which
influence the students in choosing an academic track.
