    I. General Overview
    Catch-up Subject: Peace & Values Education Grade Level: 6
    Quarterly Theme: Community Awareness - Justice Sub-theme: Intercultural
    understanding
    Time: 10:00 AM – 10:40 AM Date: March 1, 2024
    II. Session Details
    Session Title: "Building Bridges: Understanding Cultures for a Just Community"
    Session At the end of the session, learners will be able to:
    Objectives: a. Understand the importance of justice in building a strong
    community.
    b. Develop an awareness and appreciation for different cultures within
    the community.
    Key Concepts:  Justice in Community Building
     Cultural Awareness and Appreciation
     Interconnectedness of Justice and Cultural Appreciation
    III. Facilitation Strategies
    Components Duration Activities and Procedures
    Introduction and  Begin the session with a brief discussion about what
    5 Minutes justice means. Encourage students to share their thoughts
    Warm-Up
    and experiences related to fairness and treating everyone
    equally.
    Activity - "Cultural Exchange Fair"

    Sample Cultural Exchange Fair Display - Culture:


    Japan

    Display Board:
    Concept Title: "Exploring Japan: Land of the Rising Sun"
    Exploration 20 Images of iconic landmarks like Mount Fuji and Tokyo
    minutes Skytree
    Traditional Japanese calligraphy and artwork
    Facts about Japan's geography, population, and language

    Traditional Clothing:
    Display traditional Japanese clothing like kimono and
    yukata.
    Include information about when these clothing items are
    typically worn and their cultural significance.

    Food Samples:
    Showcase popular Japanese snacks like mochi, sushi, and
    matcha-flavored treats.
    Provide small samples for classmates to try.

    Customs and Traditions:


    Explain customs like bowing as a form of greeting.
    Share information about traditional tea ceremonies and
    festivals.

    Interactive Activity:
    Origami station: Provide origami paper and instructions
    for basic origami shapes.
    Allow classmates to create their own origami as a hands-
    on experience.
    Divide the class into small groups, assigning each group a
    specific culture (or country) represented in your

    Provide materials like paper, markers, and craft supplies.


    Instruct each group to create a mini-display showcasing
    the unique aspects of the assigned culture. This could
    include traditional clothing, food, customs, and important
    cultural symbols.

    Allow time for each group to present their displays to the


    class, explaining the significance of the elements they
    included.

    Facilitate a discussion on how understanding and


    appreciating different cultures contribute to a just and
    harmonious community.
     Conclude the activity by summarizing key points about
    Valuing/Wrap-up 5 minutes the role of intercultural understanding in promoting
    justice within a community. Emphasize the idea that a
    just community is one where everyone is respected and
    valued, regardless of their cultural background.
    Reflective 10  Distribute journals or paper to each student and ask them
    Journaling Minutes to reflect on the following questions:

    What did you learn about justice in today's activity?


    How does understanding different cultures contribute to a
    just community?
    Can you think of a personal experience where cultural
    understanding played a role in resolving a conflict or
    promoting fairness?
    Encourage students to share their reflections with the
    class if they feel comfortable, fostering open
    communication and understanding.
