DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICAL SCIENCE XI

I. LEARNING OUTCOMES

A. Content Standards

The learner demonstrates understanding of (1) the formation of the elements during the Big Bang and
during stellar evolution and; (2) the distribution of the chemical elements and the isotopes in the
universe

B. Performance Standard

The learner should be able to make a creative representation of the historical development of the atom
or the chemical element in a timeline

C. Learning Competency

(S11/12PS-IIIb-10)

Objectives

At the end of the lesson, at least 85% of the students should be able to:

a. differentiate the three types of nucleosynthesis;

b. relate the events of your life from past, present and future to the life of a star; and

c. draw a simplified diagram of the different process of nucleosynthesis

Routinary Activities (2 minutes)

Good morning class! Good morning, Ma’am!

I am going to be your teacher for Physical Science,
some of you may already know me since I am just
from Delfin Albano, but for those who do not know
me yet, I’ll introduce myself. My name is Teacher
Maricar M. Dumocloy, student teacher from Isabela
State University Cabagan Campus, and a proud
alumnus of DAMSASHS. I hope we all get along.

To start our class, may I request Ms. Irish Pascual to

lead us a prayer.

Thank you Ms, Irish, now let us proceed to checking (Irish will lead the prayer)
of attendance.

(The teacher will read the names of the students)

Okay, almost all of you were present, so let us all

give ourselves a good job clap. (The student will respond present or
absent)
(The teacher will demonstrate how to do the good job
clap)

Since this is our first meeting, let’s establish rules (The students will do the good job clap)
that will be effective and can be discussed whether
you will agree or disagree to these rules. You may
also add your opinion or suggestion that will benefit
our teaching and learning process. (The teacher
presents the classroom rules and discusses it with the
students)
(The students may present their ideas and
With your approval, these rules will be effective suggestions to improve the classroom
during our Physical Science class. You may now take rules)
your seat and arrange them properly. Pick up the
pieces of paper below.

A. REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS LESSON (2

minutes)

Physical Science is a core subject composed of

Chemistry and Physics. This is quite challenging
subject, but I believe that you were already equipped
with basic knowledge regarding these two fields of
science. So, to start, let’s review some concepts in
chemistry.

What do we mean by matter?

Matter is anything that occupies space and
Definitely! Can we consider this a matter (holds a

pen)?
Yes maam!
Can you give me an example of matter

(Teacher asks at least three students)

(The students responds enthusiastically)

Great job! And matter was composed of teeny tiny

particles called?
That’s right! Atoms are the smallest unit that makes Atoms ma’am!
up matter. And, atoms are composed of subatomic
particles: protons, electrons and neutrons.

Can anyone try to write on the board the charges of

these subatomic particles?
(The students will try to answer on the
B. ESTABLISHING THE PURPOSE OF THE board)
LESSON (10 minutes)

I can see that you are already familiar with these

basic concepts. Okay class, so before we formally
start our lesson, let’s take a look at these four pictures
here.

Activity 1. Where’s the label?

What do you see in these pictures?

That’s a great observation. So these pictures show There are stars, atoms, elements ma’am.
four events, but these are not in correct order. We
need to label them 1,2,3,4 with 1 being the first event
and 4 is the last. In order to discuss and arrive to the
correct answer, you will be needing help from your
classmates. So, this will be a Group Activity. The

counting 1-4)
Now, I will give you two minutes to try to answer the
sequence. Your timer starts now.
(The students will proceed to their groups
and starts to discuss)
Time’s up, pass your papers.

Let’s check if your group got the correct answer. The

correct sequence is 3,1,2,4!

Great job to those groups that guessed it right, and

for those who haven’t, don’t worry. I am proud and
happy that you tried. And this is not recorded but
let’s all stand up and give ourselves a Star Clap!

(The teacher demonstrates the Star Clap) (The students will imitate the star clap)
C. CITING EXAMPLES/INSTANCES OF NEW
LESSON (2 minutes)

Our lesson for today is all about Nucleosynthesis:

Rise of the Elements! Here are our learning (The students will listen attentively)
objectives:

At the end of the lesson, at least 85% of the students

should be able to:

a. differentiate the three types of nucleosynthesis;

b. relate the events of your life from past or present

to the life of a star; and
c. draw a simplified diagram of the different process
of nucleosynthesis

D. DISCUSSING NEW CONCEPTS &

PRACTICING NEW SKILLS 1 (20 minutes)

For you to discover the process of stellar

nucleosynthesis, you can discuss it with your group.
So this will be a group activity kindly go back to
your groupmates (The class will go back to their group)
Activity 2. Life Cycle of Stars

I will be distributing these activity sheets and try to

fill in the life cycle of stars based on the hints and
clues below.

You have 5 minutes to answer this, your timer starts

now.

Time’s up!

E. DISCUSSING NEW CONCEPTS &

PRACTICING NEW SKILLS 1 (4 minutes)

(The teacher will supplement the activity by further

discussing Nucleosynthesis)
(The students will join the discussion by
asking questions)
F. DEVELOPING MASTERY (20 minutes)

Activity 3. Corners

Great job class, we will now proceed to our next

activity. But this time, you will answer this activity
by proceeding to the corner of the correct answer.
(The teacher will assign the corner A,B,C,D) I will
be reading the question and go to your desired
answer. Bring your notebook, so I can check your
notebook. This will be two points each.

(The teacher will read the question)

(The students will participate actively)

G. FINDING PRACTICAL APPLICATION (15
minutes)

Thank you, for your active participation. Now, go

back to your proper seat.
(The students will follow the teacher’s
And we have a question right here where you can
freely share your experience, thoughts and ideas. command)

If you will be relating the events of your life from

past or present to the life of a star, what will be it?
Did you feel that igniting feeling of passion where
you want to pursue something? Did you feel that you
shone as bright as a supernova? Did you experience (At least two students will share their
that feeling burnt out as a star that runs out of fuel? experience)

H. MAKING
GENERALIZATIONS/ABSTRACTIONS (2
minutes)

(The teacher will read the summary of the lesson)

(The students may ask some questions for
I. EVALUATING LEARNING (10 minutes) clarifications)
Lastly, to assess if you really pay attention to our
discussion today, kindly proceed to your group. And
you will be drawing a simplified diagram about the
different nucleosynthesis. But, there’s a twist! Your
diagram will be based on the nucleosynthesis you
will pick from this box. You may pick the Big bang,
Stellar or Supernova Nucleosynthesis. And you have (The students will collaborate with their
10 minutes to finish. Your timer starts now! groupmates to draw the diagram)

Time’s up everyone. Pass your output now.

J. ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES OR
APPLICATION/REMEDIATION (3 minutes)

I hope you have enjoyed today's session. See you

(The students will draw a diagram)
again next meeting and I would like to remind you to
read your textbooks especially our next topic so we
can have a smooth discussion next meeting. With
that, let's call it a day and good bye class!

Thank you, ma’am, and good bye!
