Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Prose

LEARNING COMPETENCY: Discover literature as a tool to assert one’s unique identity and to better
understand other people ( EN7LT-III-b-5 )

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


a. Observe the specific details in the text;
b. Appreciate how the selection might be used to assert Filipino identity;
c. Explore literature as a tool for asserting one's distinctive identity and better understanding others..
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Pliant like the bamboo by: Ismael V. Mallari
B. Reference: CAPSLET, QUARTER 3,WEEK 2.1
C. Materials: visual aids, pictures, power point presentation

III. PROCEDURE

Preliminary Activities: (2 mins.)

 Ask one student to start a prayer


 Check the attendance.
 Let the students read the classroom rules ‘SMILE’.

1. Review: (3 mins.)

 WHO GOT THE BALL?


 Instruct students to pass the ball and stop until the music stops.
 Let the student answer if he/she got the ball.
 Group the students through counting for the group activity after the motivation.

2. Motivation: (2 mins.)

 GUESS WHO!
 Ask student to guess the correct author in of the given stories and match it with
column B.
 Let the student answer before telling the answer.

 Present the lesson.

 WORD MAZE (10 mins.)
 Assign the group areas for groups 1, 2 and 3.
 Let them form a circle.
 Tell them to choose a leader and a secretary in their group.
 Find and circle the synonyms of the word pliant in the maze.
 Read the poem

 Let the students find and circle the synonyms of the word pliant.
 Tell them to present their answer and pick one presenter.

2 ANALYSIS

 GROUP READING (5 mins.)

 The teacher will present a picture of a MANGO TREE and BAMBOO


 Let the students describe what they see on the picture.
 Present the story “ Pliant by the bamboo “ and let them read by group the group will
say something about the essay with the following guide questions in a one whole
sheet of paper.

Guide Questions:

1. What is the essay's take on the Filipino character?

2. What are the characteristics of bamboo that are thought to be similar to


Filipino characteristics?

3. How does the essay support its claims about the Filipino character with
examples from history and folklore?

4. What are the main themes of the essay

5. What conclusions does the essay draw regarding the value of cultural
identity?

Check their answers and give points.

3 ABSTRACTION (5 mins.)

 Give additional inputs about the activity.
 Note the specific details of the text
 Discuss the lesson (with PPT).
 Ask questions to students about the details in the text.
 Students will also describe some Filipino identities/ traits through mango and bamboo tree.
 Use a randomizer in calling names.

4 APPLICATION

 LET’S PRACTICE! (10 mins.)


 Each group will choose and draw a tree according to their choice.
 Each group will answer the following guide questions.

Guide questions:

Why you choose to be a mango tree? Why not a bamboo tree?


Why you choose to be a bamboo tree? Why not a mango tree?
 Let the student explain while holding their drawing.
 Present the rubrics.
 Give the students 5 minutes to prepare the task.
 Let them present their work.
 Rate their work based from the rubrics.

3. Generalization (5 mins.)

 HORSE RACING!

 Let the students go back to their group.


 Tell the mechanic of the game.
 To the group who can answer the questions correctly and will ace in
the game will receive a cloud 9.
 Mechanics:
 For every question, there must be a player from each group who will
stand to answer.
 The players are given flashcards of the letters, A, B & C.
 They will just show the letter of their answer after the question is shown.
 The first player who could raise a correct answer will get the point.
 For every point, the horse of the team will move forward.
 The horse that could reach the finish line first will be declared as the
winner.
Process Questions:
 Did you enjoy the game?
 Do you understand our lesson?

IV. EVALUATION (5 mins.)

 Let the students go back to their proper seats


 Answer the following questions in a 1 half sheet of paper

1. Who is the author of the essay?

2. What are the character traits of Filipinos like that of a bamboo or a mango tree?

3. Why people need to be like a bamboo?

V. AGREEMENT (2 mins.)
 Give the assignment.

Read about Philippine literature

Say parting words.
