I. VOCABULARY
1. explorers = pathfinders = travelers = adventurers: If you are an explorer, you are the first to do
something or explore/get to know/discover something. Verb: explore/get to know/discover …=

 During the first month living in this city, I felt myself like an adventurer; everything was new
and strange to me, and I enjoyed discovering many things interesting and exciting.
 Before she agreed to be his girlfriend, she spent a year getting to know/exploring him.

2. regard st/sb as + noun/adjective = think of sb/st as ….. = consider sb/st (as) …. = refer sb/st as

 I know he has some affection for me/ or he may love me, but I think of him just as a friend, a
good friend.
 Sometimes I have a feeling that my parents consider me (as) spoiled or good for nothing, and
this makes me sad!

 I refer my pets as members of my family

 Some people, They consider their parents' love for them as obvious without remmember it

4. extensively = rất nhiều, rộng khắp


 She read extensively, and so she has a large body of knowledge.
 As a young man, my father traveled extensively; he even visited some foreign countries.
 she is a chef so she cooking extensively everyday


5. ….. enable sb to do st = ….. giúp ai có thể ………. = Sb can/could do st thanks to …………
 Her fluency in English enabled her to gain a good job. = She could gain a good job thanks to
her fluency in English.
Knowing enables people to do everything

6. adjective: well-known = known = famous = famed = celebrated = noted = prominent =
reputed
nổi tiếng, có tiếng tăm
 Is he a noted professor?

7. distant = not close in time and space = far = faraway = far-flung = far-off = remote
 Although he is living in a distant village in a remote area, he can get access to news easily
thanks to the internet.
 I feel more and more distant from him although we are learning at the same college.
 There is a distant look in her eyes; she seems to be thinking about something faraway!
 My mother doesn't like me working far away
 I am looking for a remote job
8. search for … = look for = seek = pursue = go/be in search of/in pursuit of …. = tìm kiếm, mưu cầu
 I often go online to search for old friends whom I have lost track of. (mất liên lạc)
 There is no point in searching for a good man in this city; I should return to my hometown!

9. verb: establish = start = set up = begin = put in place = form = found = create = build up: thành
lập, thiết lập, xây dựng, khởi đầu
 It is easy to establish/set up a company, but it challenging to develop it into a giant!
 To live happily here, they have to establish relationships with the inhabitants in the
community.
 It would be wonderful if I could start a fashion company for my own


10. an account of = a story of/about = a tale = a narrative; một câu chuyện về …….
Every Monday morning, studrnt in school told a story of Bac Ho in Saluting the Flag
11. verb: establish = form = set up = create: thiết lập, tạo dựng
 After years of writing novels, she established her own style of writing.

the most successful in Vietnam; it is reputed/famous now.
 When i had a house for my our, I like to set up furniture in it with my preferences ( sở thích)
 I need to set up my tabletime now

 I enjoy life in the countryside; most of the people there still keep some traditional values.

 Ao dai is the traditional costume of Vietnam
13. (noun) methods = techniques = measures = ways = biện pháp, phương pháp, cách thức
 The farmer can’t earn much from his rice field since/because he still uses traditional methods
of farming.
 I think my way of learning English does not work; I need to change my method of learning.
 I think I will change my teaching techniques with my students
 Having similar interests (same hobby) is the best way to make friends

14. an expedition = a journey = a trip = a voyage: một nhóm/đoàn thám hiểm, một chuyến đi khám phá
 He led an expedition to some unknown land, and he discovered some tribal people.
 Learning at college is a long, hard, but interesting journey!
 On Sunday, we went on a motorbike trip
 I would like to make money and take a journey with my family in this year
15. verb: organize, hold, give, arrange: tổ chức, sắp xếp ….
 My school is going to organize a picnic for all the students this weekend.
 You should give your mother a birthday party this year; she must be happy.
 I organized a birthday party for my boyfriend
 I think I need to arrange the furniture in my room more tidily
 I thank I need to organize my space in room
16. (noun) purpose = goal = aim = target = objective: mục đích, mục tiêu …
 My purpose of taking this class is to improve my English, rather than (chứ không phải là) to
take the test!
 What is your purpose of telling such a story to her?
 My goal in this year is to save money and give gifts for my family
 My purpose now is to learn more and get a new job that is better than the old one


17. (adj) distant = far = far away = far-off = remote: xa xôi, hẻo lánh
 My hometown is far from the city
 The beautiful scenery is always distant from the city
