A: Well, right now I live with my parents in a spacious semi – detached house with 3 floors and 6 rooms.
I have lived there for 20 years since I was born.
B: Right now, I’m living in a rented flat with some of my friends. We go to the same college, so we share
the flat to save money.
2. Do you plan to live there for a long time? (If you answer you haven’t lived there long)
A: No, I don’t. To be honest, I think I’ll move out soon. I will soon have my own family and set up my
own home. But I hope to live near my parents to take care of them better.
B: Of course not. It’s the best way for now. After graduation, I will move out and rent a flat which is near
my workplace. I also hope to have my own home in the future.
3. What’s the difference between where you are living now and where you have lived in the
past?
A: Well, there biggest difference is that my current house is more modern with 3 floors and 6 rooms and
quite well-equipped with all mod-cons. In the past, it was a small brick house with only 1 floor. It was just
renovated 3 years ago.
B: Well, it’s much smaller and less comfy than my parents’ house. But I think it’s enough for us. I quite
enjoy my living situation right now.

Well, I guess we spend most of the time in the living – room. There, we always watch TV together or chat
with each other about our day.
5. Are the transport facilities to your home very good?
To be honest, I’m not quite satisfied with transportation in Hanoi. The buses are not reliable and are
always crowded. I always have to rely on private transport.
6. Do you prefer living in a house or a flat?
Well, to be honest I prefer living in a house rather than a flat, because the house is more spacious and
comfier.
On the other hand, the flat is not private as you have to share some space with your neighbors. Also, the
neighbors are sometimes annoying.

4. Hometown
1. Where are you from? How long have you been living there?
I was born and raised in/ brought up in a quaint little village in Nam Dinh Province, which is about 2
hours’ drive from Hanoi capital. It’s a small yet peaceful place to live.
2. What do you like (most) about your hometown?
What I love the most about my hometown is its peace and quiet. The air is fresh, and the locals are so
hospitable, so it’s much nicer than big cities like Hanoi.
3. What is your hometown famous for?
My hometown has a reputation for tasty local specialties, especially “pho”, a dish made from beef-bone
broth, rice noodle and thinly-sliced beef, served with bean sprouts and other fresh herbs.
4. Is there anything you dislike about it?
Well, I think the facilities still leave a lot to be desired. There’s nothing to do and see in my hometown.
There aren’t a lot of entertainment areas to socialize. Most stores and malls close after 9 p.m. It’s pretty
boring, especially at night.
5. What would you change about your hometown?
I think it might be the public amenities, especially the entertainment areas such as malls and parks.
There should be more of them, you know, so local people can have more space to socialize with their
friends and relax.
6. Do you think you will continue living there in the future?
Well, I don’t think so. It’s quite hard for young people like me to find job opportunities in my hometown,
so I will continue to live in Hanoi. Perhaps, I will come back to my hometown when I’m retired.
7. Is it a good place to live?
It depends on personal preferences, I think. As I mentioned earlier, it’s an ideal place for the elderly to

in this area.

apartment buildings. This means that the population is increasing, causing more traffic jams.

Well, to be honest, I haven’t seen any celebrity living in my neighborhood. Maybe I’m not lucky enough
to come across anyone famous.

Hanoi is the city with more than 1000 years of history, so there are a large number of historical monuments
and relics here. And the government has invested a lot of resources in the preservation and renovation of
these sites.
2. Do you think we should keep old buildings in cities?
I think it depends.
If these buildings are of historical value. They should be preserved, and regular maintenance should be
carried out.
If they are old apartment buildings, they should be demolished to make way for the new ones, to ensure
the safety for the residents.
3. Do you prefer living in an old building or a modern house?
Of course, I have a preference for living in a modern house with all the mod-cons. I like convenience, and
modern houses will satisfy my needs. Despite their historical values, old buildings often have poor facilities
and are usually shabby-looking, which is really unsafe to live in.

Ms. Dao IELTS _ 0865850526 Group: IELTS made-simple

4. Are there any old buildings you want to see in the future?
Yes, it’s the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. It’s where the king and members of royal family lived. It was
constructed more than 1000 years ago under the reign of Ly Dynasty. I used to go there 5 years ago but
was not allowed to go inside because it was under refurbishment.

7. Time management
1. How do you plan your time in a day?
Well, I’m not really good at time management. So in order to make better use of every hour, every night
before I go to bed, I often make a to-do list for the next day. This way, I know how to sort out priorities
and don’t miss out on anything important.
2. Is it easy to manage time?
I don’t think so, it’s easier said than done. Time management is a vital skill, and not many people can
master it. We can be easily distracted by things like social networking sites, and we might not have enough
time to get things done as planned.
3. Is it hard to allocate time? When do you find it hard to allocate time?
Well, it’s when something unexpected get in the way of my plan, or some of the events might take longer
than expected, which eats into the time for other events. Or something unexpected happened that I can’t
control. As a result, I need to adjust the plan
4. Do you like being late?
Of course not, I’m a punctual person, I don’t want to keep others waiting for me. It will leave a bad

an entire project.

8. Mirrors
1. How often do you look at yourself in a mirror?
I do use it every morning before I get out of my room to make sure my clothes are straight, and my hair
is tidy. But I don’t spend hours gazing at myself, brushing my hair or doing my make-up.
2. Have you ever bought a mirror?
Yes, I have. I bought a compact mirror in a street market months ago as my old one broke. I always bring
it along, to check my look when I’m out with friends or sometimes at work.
3. Would you buy clothes without checking yourself in a mirror first?
Of course not. Whenever I purchase clothes and shoes, I would always go to a physical store to try them
on and check my reflection in the mirror.
I did have a bad experience buying a dress online in the past. I just placed an order and didn’t have a
chance to try it on. Unfortunately, the dress didn’t fit, so I had to send it back to the shop and waited for
another dress to be delivered. It’s really time-consuming.
4. Do you think mirrors are a good way to decorate a room?
I do think so. Mirrors can be a nice decoration in a living room or a bedroom. For a small, cramped room,
having a big mirror would exaggerate its visual space. Actually, many restaurants and cafés employ mirrors
to give guests the impression that the area is larger than it is.

9. Dreams
1. How often do you remember your dreams after you wake up?
I barely can recall much detail about my dreams. But sometimes, the things that happen in the dreams
are so impressive that they are still vivid in my mind after I wake up.
2. Do you like hearing about other people’s dreams?
I’m not a curious person, but if they’re willing to share their dreams, then I can be a keen listener. I
remember last week, my friend told me about her dream where she met Henry Cavill, a famous Hollywood
male actor, but she could hold conversations in English, so she just looked at him and stayed quiet.

8|Page
Ms. Dao IELTS _ 0865850526 Group: IELTS made-simple

3. Do you think dreams can have special meanings?

To some extent, I think so. There was time when I was stressed or under pressure, I often had horrible
dreams such as I’m falling off a cliff or I’m chased, but when I have great times, I often dream of something
great like I achieve an A in my final exam, or I get a pay rise.
I read somewhere that dreams are something we wanna do but haven’t achieved. I know someone who
believes dreams can foretell the future and they swear they have had relevant experiences.
4. Do you want to make your dreams come true?
It kind of depends on what kinds of dreams we’re talking about.
If I had dreams where everything’s great, like I become a millionaire, of course I want that to be real.
If it’s a horrible dream, like where a serial killer is after me, of course I would not like that to come true.
5. Would you like to learn more about the subject of dreams?
I’m kinda curious about everything so if I had a chance, I would definitely like to learn more about it. I
want to know why we have dreams, how they work, that sort of things, of course from a scientific
perspective.

• recall (v) nhớ lại • a serial killer (n) kẻ giết người hàng loạt
• vivid (adj) sinh động, rõ ràng • curious about (adj) tò mò về cái gì
• a keen listener (n) người lắng nghe chăm chú • from a scientific perspective (phrase) từ khía
• foretell the future (v) báo trước tương lai cạnh khoa học

10. TV programs
1. What kind of TV programs do you like?
A: I enjoy watching reality shows which are fun and relaxing. I’m a big fan of Running Man, one of the
most popular TV shows in South Korea, where the cast are famous TV celebrities and actors who must
complete missions at various place to win the race in each episode.
B: I enjoy sports programs, especially the ones about basketball and football. It’s a good way for me to
unwind. Being able to watch and support my favorite team brings me great joy.
2. Do you talk with your friends about the program you watched?
Well, it depends.
If my friends show some interest in the show, of course I will share my watching experience with them.
If they’re not interested or curious, I will say nothing at all.
3. Do you like watching the same kind of program all the time?
Of course not, I will soon get fed up if I keep watching the same program again and again. I often watch
different programs to enjoy varied content.

4. Do you often watch programs on TV or on your cellphone?

I just use my phone to watch TV. I don’t have a TV set at home, so I prefer watching TV on the Internet.
Cell phones are portable so I can watch my favorite shows wherever and whenever I want to.
5. What kinds of TV programs do you think should be broadcast more?
I think the programs about people doing good deeds, like protecting the animals or helping the old and
the poor, should be broadcast more. Our society would become a better place through the programs like
this.
6. What are the impacts of watching TV programs on children?
I suppose the most negative influence is that their behavior will be affected by the content of TV programs.
Children tend to copy what they’ve seen on TV, and not many children know how to tell the difference
between right and wrong. If there’s too much violence on TV, they are likely to act aggressively in real
life.

• the cast (n) dàn diễn viên • tell the difference between right and wrong (v) phân
• mission (n) nhiệm vụ biệt đúng sai
• get fed up (v) chán • violence (n) bạo lực
• portable (adj) di động, có thể mang • act aggressively (v) cư xử 1 cách hung hăng
